The Jane was piloted by Capt Fisher & carried emigrants from the Clanranald's Estate. It sailed from Druimindarroch (just below Arisaig) 12 July 1790 for the Is. of St. John in the Gulf of St. Laurence. Archives of PEI (from Archives of NS; MG 1 161 599 #528). In his "Antiquarian Notes" Charles Fraser-Mackintosh the only instances of evictions from Clanranald properties were in 1790, when about 110 were removed from Ardnafueran (old name for Arisaig). Aboard the 'Lucy' (which sailed with the 'Jane', (from Kyles ?) was; Donald M'Gillvray, carpenter; 2 adults, from Kylesmorar (8e of Mallaig) (Dir of Scots to NA; Dave Dobson NLS; & p.238 of N'er Forget bk) Glen Mama (aka Mamy) is a small stream & lake near Arisaig, in the W'n HL's from where many MacGillivray's came in 1790. The Gaelic word 'Mama' is pronounced 'Vamy', or 'Vamey' as it's also spelled in English; the 'V' sound apparently coming from the preposition in Gaelic meaning 'from', that is, 'MacGillivray from Mama'.
