JOB TITLE: Plasterer L - 1 LEVEL: 1

JOB DESCRIPTION: A plasterer of this level prepares required surfaces to receive plaster, prepares various mortar as per instructions, performs patch plaster/pointing works/infill plaster and applies plaster to interior, exterior walls and ceilings of buildings/engineering structures to produce finished surfaces.

1. Erecting and dismantling ladder, staging and simple scaffolding. 2. Repairing holes, chases and sleeves.

3. Preparing surfaces for plaster/pointing works.

4. Preparing mortar for plaster work as per instructions.

5. Performing patch plaster /pointing/infill work in existing structure.

6. Performing plaster works.

TASK PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS Instruction: Verbal instructions. Tools and Equipments: Measuring tape, ruler, tri – square, marking pencil or chalk, chalk line, masons string, water level, spirit level, plumb bob,

chisel, club hammer, mallet, claw hammer, back saw, shovel, spade, pick, rammer, spanner, screw, screwdriver, wheel barrow and crow – bar.

Materials: Base plate, bamboo, timber joists, plank, rope, wedge, hook, step ladder or multipurpose ladder, nails.

• Required materials, appropriate tools and equipments selected and/or collected. • Precautionary measures applied such as covering unnecessary elements/ accessories etc.

• Stock measured, marked and cut as instructed. • Holes in wall for putlogs made to modular size, in line and level.

• Ladder assembled firmly and safely providing convenient step and uniform riser within ±30 mm in each step using standard size of rope and

standard knots and/or clamps, erected and positioned at right place and secured from sliding. Scaffolding assembled, erected and positioned firmly &safely as per instructions.

DID THE CANDIDATE? 1. Selected and/or collect required materials and appropriate tools

and equipment

2. Locate the location to be repaired and mark extent of work as per instructions.

3. Identify and remove all defective plaster/pointing thoroughly. 4. Identify existing types of mortar and mix required quantity of

mortar in order and thoroughly to the uniform color and consistency.

5. Remove/clean all visible foreign material and fill hollow within +5mm and splash water thoroughly.

6. Grout/coat cement slurry to the surface where required. 7. Check stiffness of mortar and apply plaster in order with dash

method uniformly and finish applied plaster with trowel to match existing surrounding without any cracks and patches.

8. Strike off excess mortar extruding from plastered surface and throw back onto mortar board for reuse before setting.

9. Clean work area after the completion of work. 10. Dress safely. 11. Observe related safety precautions. 12. Complete the work within specified time.

Knows to use water consistency plaster for hawk and trowel method than that used for the dash method. Knows to spread the plaster on the wall starting in the bottom right/left hand corner while using hawk or trowel method. Knows to slant trowel away from the background and spread plaster on the surface in an upward motion with some pressure so that it is squeezed on to the surface. Knows to strike off the excess plaster to flatten the surface to the required thickness as per screed, using a straight edge by drawing backwards and forwards across the plastered surface. TASK TITLE: TASK NO: Comprehensive Test



DID THE CANDIDATE? 1. Select and collect all required hand tools at one time.

2. Locate and estimate extent of work and mark within +2mm.

3. Make holes in wall for putlogs to the modular size inline and level at

appropriate intervals. 4. Assemble ladder firmly and safely providing convenient step and

uniform riser within +30mm in each step using standard size of rope and standard knots/or clamps and react and position them at right place securing from sliding or collapsing.

5. Assemble, erect and position scaffolding firmly and safely to

withstand minimum standard as per instructions.

6. Remove defective masonry units not exceeding one full masonry unit beyond the mark portion without damaging. Surrounding/structure and infill masonry units with mortar maintaining existing structure’s pattern.

7. Remove all visible foreign material and cut/fill marked uneven parts

of masonry surface within + 5mm.

8. Hack all visible smooth surface and rack out mortar joints throughout

the surface approximately 15 mm deep to provide bond for plastering/pointing work.

9. Make cement slurry and grout/coat the surface uniformly where

necessary.

10. Clean and water the surface thoroughly without saturating the surface.

11. Determine mortar ratio as per instructions, batch ingredients of

mortar as per ratio and mix ingredients thoroughly to uniform color and consistency.

12. Apply plaster in order with dash/hawk and trowel method uniformly.

13. Strike off excess plaster by drawing the straight edge backwards and

forwards across the plastered surface complying the surface thickness with the guide (screed) without leaving any protruding surface before plaster set.

14 Fill all hollows or holes after striking off excess plaster and

finish/smooth the plastered and surface with a float/straight edge, complying the surface with guide without any cracks, patches and undulating surface within plumb +-3mm per 3m height, level + 3mm per 3m length. Dismantle stages, ladders and/or scaffolding sequencely and store in safe place
