What is Job satisfaction?

Job satisfaction has been defined as a pleasurable

emotional state resulting from the appraisal of

one’s job); an affective reaction to one’s job; and

an attitude towards one’s job.

EFFECTS OF JOB SATISFACTION:ON PRODUCTIVITY:

Though research evidence does not establish any consistent

positive relationship between satisfaction and performance,

the general consensus is that I the long run if not in short run

job satisfaction lead to increased productivity. Research

evidence indicates that the satisfied workers will not

necessarily be the highest producer. In fact the rewards

employees received result in greater performance.

ON ABSENTEEISM:

There is a inverse relationship though based on pretty research evidence between satisfaction and absenteeism. When satisfaction is high absenteeism tends to be low and vise versa. As in productivity, absenteeism is subject modification by certain factors like the degree to which people feel that their jobs are important. Employees who believe that their work is important then do those who do not feel this way. It is also worth mentioned that a high degree of job satisfactions will not necessarily result in low absenteeism, while a low level of job satisfaction is likely to bring about high absenteeism.

ON TURNOVER:

Like that between satisfaction and absenteeism an inverse relationship though at a moderate level has been established between satisfaction and turnover. However, there is other moderating as well as influencing the employees turnover rates. Commitment to the organization is one such factor. There may be some employees who cannot see them working anywhere else, so they remain in the organization regardless of how much dissatisfied they feel in the organization. Similarly if the condition of the economy will stay where they are. Just the opposite tends to apply to the general economy condition in which jobs easily available. If green pastures are available employees do not mind going in search of them, even when they are satisfied with their existing jobs.

ON OTHER DIMENSIONS:

• Employees with high job satisfaction tend to have better mental and

physical health.

• They learn new job related tasks more easily and quickly.

• They commit less mistakes including on the job accidents.

• They have and file fewer grievances about the job and the

management.

• Last but not the least; the satisfied employees tend to evidence

pronominal attitude towards their co-workers and customers.

MEASURING JOB SATISFACTION

There are many methods for measuring job satisfaction. By far, the most

common method for collecting data regarding job satisfaction is the

Likert scale (named after Rensis Likert). Other less common methods of

for gauging job satisfaction include: Yes/No questions, True/False

questions, point systems, checklists, and forced choice answers.

VARIABLES AND MEASURES

The overall job satisfaction levels of the Faculty

members measured with the help of five dimensions

namely; Job, supervisor, coworkers, pay and promotion.

Information regarding faculty members' age, education,

job level, foreign qualification, numbers of years in

organization, other sources of income, sex, and marital

status have also been obtained

STRATEGIES TO IMPROVE YOUR JOB SATISFACTION

SET NEW CHALLENGES

Here are some ideas that may help.

Improve your job skills. Imagining yourself in your dream job, you might see

yourself as an excellent project manager — a confident communicator and a

highly organized person. Why not work on these skills in your present job?

Develop your own project. Take on a project that can motivate you and give

you a sense of control. Start small, such as organizing a work-related

celebration, before moving on to larger goals. Working on something you

care about can boost your confidence.

Mentor a co-worker. Once you've mastered a job, you may find it becoming

routine. Helping a new co-worker or an intern advance his or her skills can

often restore the challenge and the satisfaction you desire.

BEAT THE BOREDOM

Does your job seem boring sometimes? Do you run out of things to do? If so, your

abilities may not match your responsibilities. Here are some suggestions:

Break up the monotony. Take advantage of your work breaks. Read. Listen to

music. Go for a walk. Write a letter.

Cross-training. Does your work consist of repetitive tasks, such as entering data

into a database or working on an assembly line? Talk with your boss about

training for a different task to combat boredom. Once you've completed the

training, you can switch back and forth.

Volunteer for something different. If you hear that your company is launching a

new project, volunteer for the work team.

Ask for a new challenge. If you're comfortable doing so, tell your supervisor

you're a little bored with what you're doing and would like a new challenge.

STAY POSITIVETry these techniques:Stop negative thoughts. Pay attention to the messages you give yourself. When you catch yourself thinking your job is terrible, stop the thought in its tracks.Put things in perspective. Remember, everyone encounters good days and bad days on the job.Look for the silver lining. "Reframing" can help you find the good in a bad situation. For example, you receive a less than perfect performance appraisal and your boss warns you to improve or move to another job. Instead of taking it personally or looking for another job right away, look for the silver lining. Depending on where you work, the silver lining may be attending continuing education classes, working closely with a performance coach and having the satisfaction of showing your boss you're capable of change.Learn from your mistakes. Failure is one of the greatest learning tools, but many people let failure defeat them. When you make a mistake at work, learn from it and try again.Be grateful. Gratitude can help you focus on what's positive about your job. Ask yourself, "What am I grateful for at work today?" If it's only that you're having lunch with a trusted co-worker, that's OK. But find at least one thing you're grateful for and savor it.

The main objective of the research is to study the attitude of the employees towards

their position in organization and if they are found resistant to suggest measures to

Limitation of the study1. The survey was carried through a questionnaire and the questions were. Formed

kept in mind the aspects of perception most important is positioning.

2. Question preparation is prove to researcher’s bias a well.

3. The finding of the survey may not be representative of the market as it is limited

in scope.

4. The Sample of the project is 80 retailers.

5. The retailers are selected at random without any consideration.

6. The project has been based on the information provided to me by the retailers

and all the analysis and interpretation has been done on its basis. So if the

retailers provided any wrong information to me I do not owe any responsibility

for that.

Suggestions • Provision of reasonable wages plays an important role in improving the standard of

living. This single factor is imp for a worker than any other. So, the company must

provide adequate wages to the workers.

• Systematic planning reduces hurdles at workplace and it ensures smooth flow of work

methods. So, the present method of planning the work would be maintained as before

to attain the goals very effectively.

• The mutual cooperation between employees at workplace is very important to carry out

the work at right time, so, the organization should take of providing scope for

communication with other departments.

• Attractive schemes would activate employees and increase individualistic work

efficiency.

• Extra and intra mural facilities are also boosting factors for efficient work source.

CONCLUSIONS

Findings and suggestions are based on the survey conducted and these points are to

be looks into and steps are to be taken in this regard for higher growth.

From this analysis I conclude that the job provides the opportunity to the

employees to exercise his/her skills at work place. Number of the employees

accepted that at times there is a considerable flexibility in co-coordinating with work

and they are satisfied with the existing inter personal communication. In the Verka

milk Plant, Patiala they follow the systematic planning and review process to

evaluate the performance of employee.

From analysis it was observed that there is scope for the improvement of working

conditions. Salary packages would hike so that it can be in par with market rate.

Finally I would like to conclude that the employees of Verka milk Plant are satisfied

with their work and organization.
