Personal Security Violence Be aware of changes in personality of workers. Make sure visitors sign in and out. If working after hours, make sure Shift Supervisor is aware (ext. 3458).

Walking Surfaces Physical Injury and /or Trauma. Slips, Trips and Falls.

Practice Good Housekeeping i.e., keep floors clear of debris and liquid spills. Do not block or restrict doorways, halls, closets or paths or egress. Do not stand on chairs, use foot stool or ladder. Insure proper lighting in all areas.

Office Equipment Electric Shock. Circuit overload, frayed or damaged service and extension cords, faulty equipment. Personnel tripping or falling.

Never use extension cords in place of permanent wiring. If a cord must be used, make sure it is properly sized for the voltage and amperage of the equipment. Avoid unnecessary use of adapters and multi-outlet strips. Do not run power cords through door openings or under chairs where it may be walked on or pinched. Keep file drawers closed when not in use.

Handling/Moving Heavy Items and Equipment

Strains and Sprains to the back, arms or shoulders. Awkward Motions and Repetitive motions.

Use mechanical means (carts and dollies) to lift and move heavy items. Always employ proper lifting techniques and get help with loads that cannot be safely lifted by one person.

Material Storage Falling Objects and Fire Hazards

Use suitable step stool or ladder to avoid lifting above shoulder height. Never overload shelves and stack evenly to avoid tipping. Open only one file drawer at a time and secure cabinet to the wall if feasible.

Use adjustable chair and wrist/foot rests if necessary. Take frequent breaks from the computer. Use stretching exercises for the wrist and forearm. Get up and walk around briefly. Ensure proper lighting (28-50FC). Use a non-glare screen
