Main Purpose of the Job Epic CIC is the UK’s first independent youth service mutual and social enterprise. We are a thriving social business creating value in our community. We provide guidance and support to approximately 5000 young people per annum. We have 170 staff and an annual turnover of approximately £5,000,000. We have an innovative business model which is based on growing the size of the organisation so that we may continue to deliver great services for children and young people. We have recently reviewed our approach to financial management. As a result, we have decided to appoint a dedicated Finance Manager to lead on implementing sound procedures and provide critical financial information to Epic staff and Board members. Epic operates in a challenging financial environment. We have a successful track record in securing funding from various sources and our business development strategy will see a diversification in income generation. As a member of the senior management team, you will advise on financial implications and risks associated with the strategy. We are looking for a team player who enjoys taking responsibility and can upskill and support staff in financial management. You will be responsible for ensuring the day to day running of a small finance team, monitoring organisation and financial performance, preparing monthly management accounts, liaising with the Business Management Team on financial planning and developing financial systems already in place. You will have experience of finance management. You will have a 'can do attitude', be a problem solver, have close attention to detail and be willing to work flexibly. Main Duties and Responsibilities: Financial Management:

● Providing, analysing and interpreting financial information and trends in the company's finances;

● Prepare quarterly budgeting and cashflow forecasts; ● Supervising bank reconciliations, petty cash, expenses and credit card

transactions; ● Providing quarterly reports for managers; ● Develop financial management mechanisms that minimise financial risk; ● Review and analyse funding bids; ● Attend Board and Business Management Team meetings to report on

financial matters, projections and trends; ● Contribute financial information to strategic and long-term business plans; ● Managing Epic’s financial accounting, monitoring and reporting systems.

Compliance:

● Produce and ensure the timely submission of all statutory filings with Companies House and the CIC Regulator;

● Supervising and filing VAT quarterly returns; ● Completion and submission of Corporation Tax payments; ● Keeping abreast of changes in financial regulations and legislation; ● Provide information for external auditors as required

Day to day operations:

● Managing Epic’s financial accounting, monitoring and reporting systems; ● Upskill managers in understanding and managing their budgets; ● Conducting reviews and evaluations for cost-reduction opportunities; ● Developing external relationships with appropriate contacts, e.g. auditors,

solicitors, bankers and statutory organisations such as HMRC; ● Producing accurate financial reports to specific deadlines; ● Supervising x 2 Finance administrators.

Job Title: Finance Manager

Skills and Competencies When completing the Application for Employment form, you must demonstrate how you meet the skills and competencies outlined below ensuring that you respond to the essential criteria and the desirable where possible.

A Qualifications - Demonstrated both at Application and Interview Stage Essential:

● Formal accountancy qualification (full or part qualified) from a recognised UK accountancy body.

B Finance - Demonstrated at Application and Interview Stage Essential:

● IT literate, including advanced Excel/Google Sheets skills; ● Experience of budget and forecast expenditure and report on this

in clear and coherent manner; ● Experience of liaising with auditors; ● Ability to provide complex financial information in a coherent

manner to senior managers and Board members; ● In depth knowledge of accounting regulations: ● Experience in using the Xero Finance System or equivalent to

process financial records, maintain accounting data, monitor expenditure and produce monthly financial reports for budget holders.

Desirable:

● Charity/social enterprise accounting experience.

Interview Stage Essential:

● Experience of delivering concise and accurate financial reports to Board Members, Business Management Team, external stakeholders and partners to strict deadlines;

● Ability to organise work, to prioritise tasks and keep to deadlines; ● Ability to work independently and manage complex workloads

whilst liaising with staff, clients and volunteers; ● Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written; ● Excellent eye for detail.

● Experience in a similar role; ● Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, remaining calm and
