Parthsarthi was the firstvice-chancellor.Campus Location in India : southern part of New Delhi and spread over an area of about 1000 acres.In 2012, TheNational Assessment and Accreditation Councilgave the university a grade of 3.9 out of 4, the highest grade awarded to any educational institution in the country.The university is an example of the new red brick universities built in the mid-20th century.campus is a microcosm of the Indian nation, drawing students from every nook and corner of the country and from every group and stratum of society.The excellent teacher-student ratio at 1:10, a mode of instruction.Fierce poster and cartoon wars, verbal duels and competitive yet peaceful group meetings are a viewers' delight during the elections.

TheJNU Logois a graphic statement which stands for international academic exchange and onwards search of knowledge for the betterment of human being. The overlapping circular segments of the design denote global interaction, creating a flame emitting enlightenment, this flame emerges from the traditional Indian 'diya' (lamp)-a source of Light, Understanding and Brotherhood. The design is also representative of the rose-bud closely associated with the name of Pt. The JNU library is a nine-storey building in the middle of the academic block of the university.The library compound is fully Wi-Fi, with online access to international academic journals includingProject MUSEandJSTOR.Students and Nature.Situated at the top of Aravali Mountain Range J.N.U. has vivid flora and fauna.The campus occupies some of the northernmost reaches of theAravalli Hills.The JNU ridge is home to over 200 species of birds and other wildlife such as,Nilgai, Indian Crested Porcupines, Common Palm Civet, jackals, mongoose,peacocksas well as a large number of snakes. Tall and thick trees lowers the temperature during summer and nights are soothing.Eco club and NSS maintains the logo of GO GREEN and Plastics and Cold drinks are banned.This campus is totally smoke free zone.

Dhaba Culture.

J.N.U. has many dhabas , like Shambhu Dhaba, Mamu Dhaba, Ram Singh Dhaba,24*7, Ganga Dhaba,North East Dhaba etc. which make this university unique from others. Many people from outside come to 24*7 for late night party and dinner.Circulation of DTC bus No. 615 in the campus saves our money and time.Well maintained roads and good sanitation facilities add spices to its beauty.

A mini India.Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union (JNUSU)Primarily responsible for building and preserving a healthy political culture and an atmosphere of open debates on the campus.Arrangements of public meetings, discussions and other issues through pamphlets and notices provides proper guidance to the students.Student activismLeft-Centric student politics and the existence of a written constitution for the university.Consists of various parties such as ABVP, NSUI,AISA,DSF,DSU,AISF,AIBSF,SFI etc.International Student's AssociationAn official Jawaharlal Nehru University body. It was instituted in 1985 with a view to promoting friendly relations and cultural exchange.The university has 133 international students.

Cultural activities

The university has nine cultural clubs: the Drama Club, Music Club, Film Club, Fine Arts Club, Photography Club, Literary Club, Debating Club, UNESCO Club, and Nature & Wildlife Club.Bahroop Arts Groupis an amateur theatre group which has been active on campus for more than 15 years.Wings Cultural Societyplans cultural activities, including theatre, painting exhibitions, literary seminars, and symposiums, etc.Unnoticed children of construction workers is a voluntary organization which is run by some students and NSS.Hostel and cultural nights of each 17 hostels also boost up the inner talents of students.Annual sports meet , annual functions of each School and Center also signifies UNITY IN DIVERSITY.

There are 17 residences (hostels), including one for married students. Of the 17 residences, 7 are for men, 5 are for women and 4 have mixed wings for women and men. They are all named on the rivers of India.Sports Complex/JNU Stadium: Forfootball,cricket, volleyball,lawn tennis,weight lifting/gymnasium,yogaand athletics.Badminton Hallinside theStudents Activity Centre(Tefla's Building): For badminton andtaekwondo.Each hostel has its own badminton and volleyball courts.Fair and healthy tournaments are organized each year by each hostels.
