Ty Butler is originally from the Midwest, born and raised in a small Kansas town. Influenced by his mother, father and grandfather he began playing golf at an early age. Starting out in junior golf at age 8 it wasn’t long before Ty fell in love with the game and started a lifelong journey to becoming a golf course architect. Playing much of his golf in the wide open and windy spaces of the Midwest, and exposure to the many great courses found in this region of the country has influenced his style of design. His designs are thoughtful and respectful of the natural environment, and combine time honored values of the game with the highest standards of strategy, playability and aesthetics to create truly memorable golf courses. Ty earned his Bachelor of Landscape Architecture degree from Kansas State University in 1990, and upon graduation joined the firm Robert Trent Jones II. During his 20 years at RTJ II his skills and experience as a golf course architect were refined working on projects around the globe. Ty joined JMP in 2010 working alongside principals Brian Costello and Mark Hollinger in JMP’s West Coast office. His noteworthy designs include Rock Barn Golf & Spa in North Carolina; Kalúhyat Golf Club at Turning Stone Casino & Resort in New York and Sunday River Golf Club in Maine all recognized by Golf Digest in their ranking of “Best New Courses of the Year.” for the years 2003, 2004 and 2006 respectively. Recent work includes Tenuta di Bagnaia Resort Golf Course in Toscana Region, Italy; Bahia Beach Resort & Golf Club in Puerto Rico; Sequoyah National Golf Club in North Carolina and Hickory Sticks Golf Course in New York. Ty is a Regular Member of the American Society of Golf Course Architects and the USGA. Married and the father of two daughters and a son Ty lives in Northern California with his family.

“As a golf course architect you must strive to make each of your designs sustainable not only within the environment in which it is built, but also economically sustainable for the client and the region . But, you must keep in mind that you are designing a playing field for the great

game of golf and it is paramount that it be fun to play!” Ty Butler

Brian Costello is a native Californian, born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area. At the age of 10, Brian was introduced to the game of golf by his father. He soon became a caddy and a competitive golfer, and as such, was exposed to the renowned public and private golf courses throughout the Bay Area. In retrospect, Brian now understands that this early exposure to the game and the historic courses of his home have strongly influenced his fondness for classic and traditional layouts. Brian received a B.S. in Landscape Architecture from the University of California at Davis in 1983. Upon graduation, he joined Hargreaves Associates, a renowned planning and landscape architecture firm based in San Francisco. During his five years there, Brian developed an appreciation for the powerful experiences which can be created through sculptural landforms and contextual landscapes. His designs reflect a deep commitment to the experience of the game as defined by its’ setting. In 1989 Brian joined JMP, and became a Principal of the firm in 1994. Brian has designed many outstanding golf courses around the world. Among his most noteworthy designs are: Whiskey Creek Golf Club near Washington, DC, Callippe Preserve Golf Club and Los Lagos Golf Club in California, Costa do Sauipe Golf Links and Fazenda da Grama Golf Club in Brazil, Belnatio Golf Club, Nasu Chifuriko and Golden Palm Country Clubs in Japan, and Blackstone Exclusive Golf Club in Jeju, Korea. He is a member of the American Society of Golf Course Architects, the Urban Land Institute, the USGA, and a registered Landscape Architect in California. Brian, along with fellow Principal Mark Hollinger, manage JMP’s West Coast Office. Brian is the proud father of two boys named Adam and Riley.

“One of the most important qualities that a Golf Course Architect should possess is the ability to listen…to clearly understand and identify the needs of the client, and then creatively

translate those requirements into spectacular and memorable golf courses.” Brian Costello

JMP Principal, Mark Hollinger, is originally from the East Coast of the US, growing up in both Pennsylvania and Georgia. He obtained a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture degree (1976) from the University of Georgia, where he was the recipient of the 1974 UGA Regents’ Study Abroad Italy Scholarship Award. He practiced landscape architecture, resort development and planning for 13 years on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, and it was there that he got his start in the field of Golf Architecture, as he went to work with Willard Byrd & Associates in 1986. He moved to Byrd’s main office in Atlanta, Georgia, and worked designing courses throughout the Southeast US, before joining with JMP in 1990. He is a member of the American Society of Golf Course Architects, the American Society of Landscape Architects, as well as a registered Landscape Architect in both South Carolina and Florida, a member of the Urban Land Institute (ULI), the United States Golf Association, and the Donald Ross Society. Mark is married with two daughters, and resides in Northern California. His most noteworthy golf designs include the Agile Golf Club, Long Island Golf & Country Club, and Jian Lake Golf & Country Club in China, Wildhawk Golf Club in Sacramento, California, Iwate Numakunai Golf Club in Japan, as well as Las Lomas Golf & Habitat in Guadalajara, Mexico. He is a frequent speaker around the world at various golf conferences and seminars, and has been an avid golfer since he was eleven years old.

“As Golf Architects, we are members of a most noble profession. We have the honor to travel the world, professing our love and passion for the game and our appreciation for nature, allowing us to combine the elements of both, which produce wonderful courses and settings for

the world to enjoy for many years to come.” Mark Hollinger

Bob Moore will be forever grateful to his father and grandfather for introducing him to the game of golf at an early age. He began caddying at eight, and was playing within the year. Bob became enamored with the challenges of the game and with the settings in which the game is played. As a young man, his love for the game led to employment in both the maintenance and construction of golf courses. Upon graduating from Wake Forest University in 1979, Bob made the decision to pursue golf course design as a career. He returned to school and tailored his curriculum with a focus on golf course architecture, receiving a Masters Degree in Landscape Architecture from North Carolina State University in 1983. His professional career began with the firm of Jerry Turner & Associates, where Bob developed his skills as a landscape architect and land planner. His early golf course designs include Nags Head Golf Links, North Shore Country Club and Wildwood Green Golf Club, all the State of North Carolina. Bob joined JMP in 1990 and became a Principal in 1994. Leading JMP into the Southeast Asia market, he produced some of the region’s best courses, including Mount Malarayat Golf Club (Philippines), Rajpruek Club (Thailand) and Bukit Pelangi Country Club (Indonesia). Most recently, the focus of his work has been the United States, and includes The Golf Club at Roddy Ranch in Antioch, California, Heritage Golf Club and Chapel Ridge Golf Club in North Carolina. Bob relocated to North Carolina in 1999 to open JMP’s East Coast Office. Living in Chapel Hill, Bob is married and the father of two children.

“The game of golf is an experience like no other. I believe that it is our mission, as Golf Course Architects, to provide thoughtful, challenging, and memorable settings for that

experience.” Bob Moore, Jr.
