JISC MIRAGE 2011 Project Plan WP1 WP1: Literature review (2 months). The state of the art web technologies (e.g., RDF metadata, SPARQl-to-SQL translation, OWL, DL, XML, Java3D). Standards and applications in relation to management of images with a focus on higher dimensional (>2D). Interfacing with one of the existing open source software for visualization and analysis tools, such as ImageJ, 3D Slicer, MIPAV, ParaView and Amira is anticipated.

Visualization Tool Kit (VTK) will be embedded into GIFT server side On the other hand, GIFT provides a PluginMaker directory including Accessor plug-in and Query processor plug-in that can be filled with in-house code to create an extended/modified query engine, which boils down to writing classes in C++ language.
