Matthew 9:9-13Wednesday Evening

    9 As Jesus passed on from there, He saw a man named Matthew sitting at the 

tax office. And He said to him, "Follow Me." So he arose and followed Him.

 

 

 

 

 

10 Now it happened, as Jesus sat at the table in the house, that behold, many tax 

collectors and sinners came and sat down with Him and His disciples.

 11 And when the Pharisees saw it, they said to His disciples, "Why does your Teacher eat with tax collectors and 

sinners?" 

 12 When Jesus heard that, He said to 

them, "Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. 13 

But go and learn what this means: 'I desire mercy and not sacrifice.' For I did 

not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance."

Romans 9:9-269 For this is the word of promise: "At this time I will come and Sarah shall have a son."  10 And not only this, but when 

Rebecca also had conceived by one man, even by our father Isaac 11(for the 

children not yet being born, nor having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works but of Him who calls), 

12 it was said to her, "The older shall serve the younger."  13 As it is written, "Jacob I have loved, but Esau I have hated."  14 What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God? 

Certainly not! 15 For He says to Moses, "I will have mercy on whomever I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whomever I will have compassion.”

16 So then it is not of him who wills, nor of him who runs, but of God who shows 

mercy. 17 For the Scripture says to Pharaoh, "For this very purpose I have 

raised you up, that I may show My power in you, and that My name may be 

declared in all the earth."  18 Therefore He has mercy on whom He wills, and 

whom He wills He hardens. 19 You will say to me then, "Why does He still find fault? 

For who has resisted His will?”

20 But indeed, O man, who are you to reply against God? Will the thing formed say to him who formed it, "Why have you made me like this?" 21 Does not the 

potter have power over the clay, from the same lump to make one vessel for honor and another for dishonor? 22 What if God, wanting to show His wrath and to make His power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath 

prepared for destruction,  

23 and that He might make known the riches of His glory on the vessels of mercy, which He had prepared beforehand for 

glory, 24 even us whom He called, not of the Jews only, but also of the Gentiles? 25 As He 

says also in Hosea: "I will call them My people, who were not My people, And her beloved, who was not beloved." 26 "And it shall come to pass in the place where it was said to them, 'You are not My people,' There they shall be called sons of the living God."

 

John 6:37-4537 All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will by no means cast out. 38 For I have come down from heaven, not to do My 

own will, but the will of Him who sent Me. 39 This is the will of the Father who sent Me, that of all He has given Me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up at the 

last day. 

40 And this is the will of Him who sent Me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life; and I will raise him up at the last day.“ 41 The Jews then complained about Him, because He said, "I am the bread which came down from heaven." 42 And they said, "Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How is it then that He says, 'I have come down 

from heaven'?”

43 Jesus therefore answered and said to them, "Do not murmur among yourselves. 44 No one can come to Me unless the 

Father who sent Me draws him; and I will raise him up at the last day. 

 

1 Peter 2:9-109 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; 10 who once 

were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but 

now have obtained mercy.  

 

Romans 8:28-3928 And we know that all things work 

together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His 

purpose. 29 For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. 30 Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom 

He justified, these He also glorified. 

 31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be 

against us? 32 He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things? 33 Who shall bring a charge 

against God's elect? It is God who justifies. 34 Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of 

God, who also makes intercession for us.  

 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36 As it is written: "For Your sake we are killed all day long; We 

are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.”37 Yet in all these things we are more 

than conquerors through Him who loved us. 

38 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, 39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to 

separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. 

Ephesians 2:1-101 And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins, 2 in which you once 

walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience, 3 among whom also we all 

once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of 

wrath, just as the others. 

4 But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, 5 even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by 

grace you have been saved), 6 and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7 that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in His kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. 

8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast. 10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for 

good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.

John 3:16-2116 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. 18 He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned 

already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 

19 And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For everyone 

practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. 21 But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in 

God." 

11 And when the Pharisees saw it, they said to His disciples, "Why does your Teacher eat with tax collectors and 

sinners?" 

Proverbs 1:23-3323 Turn at my rebuke; Surely I will pour 

out my spirit on you; I will make my words known to you. 24 Because I have called and you refused, I have stretched out my hand and no one regarded, 25 Because you disdained all my counsel, And would have none of my rebuke, 26 I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when 

your terror comes, 

27 When your terror comes like a storm, And your destruction comes like a 

whirlwind, When distress and anguish come upon you. 28 "Then they will call on me, but I will not answer; They will seek me diligently, but they will not find me. 29 Because they hated knowledge And did not choose the fear of the LORD, 30 They would have none of my counsel And 

despised my every rebuke. 

31 Therefore they shall eat the fruit of their own way, And be filled to the full 

with their own fancies. 32 For the turning away of the simple will slay them, And the complacency of fools will destroy them; 33 But whoever listens to me will dwell safely, And will be secure, without fear of 

evil."

Hosea 6:6"For I desire mercy and not sacrifice, And the knowledge of God more than burnt 

offerings."  

Romans 10:9-139 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 

11 For the Scripture says, "Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.”

12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. 13 For 

"whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved."
