Sometimes it's great when you can finally eliminate the middle man. The matchmaker is good, but once the connection is made, you don't really want a table for three. The driving instructor has their place, but once you figure out the difference between the street and the sidewalk, there's nothing like taking the wheel by yourself. Or like the time you got the keys to your own place, no longer with the security of your parents but finally experiencing the freedom of being on your own. The same thing is true with God - we don't need a middle man anymore… our priest is both God and man himself, and his name is Jesus. That means the training wheels can come off… there is nothing that ever needs to get in the way between you and the majesty of God. That's what this message is all about as we look at Hebrews 5:1-5 in a message called "Jesus Priest."
Transcript of Jesus Priest (Hebrews 5:1-5)
For every high priest chosen from among men is appointed to act on behalf of men in relation to God, to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins. He can deal gently with the ignorant and wayward, since he himself is beset with weakness.
Because of this he is obligated to offer sacrifice for his own sins just as he does for those of the people. And no one takes this honor for himself, but only when called by God, just as Aaron was.
So also Christ did not exalt himself to be made a high priest, but was appointed by him who said to him,
“You are my Son, today I have begotten you”;

And every priest stands daily at his service, offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. But when Christ had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God, waiting from that time until his enemies should be made a footstool for his feet.
For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified.

Because Jesus is our High Priest, we can eliminate every “middleman.” We can experience the full guidance, power, and presence of God directly!
