WELCOME CALL TO WORSHIP Lord as we gather here in this place and this time, a place familiar, a time set in our calendars, we thank You that we are here to meet with You afresh. *CONFESSION AND PARDON OF SIN Lord of glory, it is good that we are here. In peace we make our prayer to You. In trust we confirm our faith in You . Help us to set our faces steadfastly to where You would have us go. Lord, look with favour. Lord, transfigure and heal. Lord of glory, it is good we are here, gathered as Your Church, Help us to proclaim Your beloved Son to the world Help us to listen to promptings of His Spirit ... in this time of radical action may we be renewed in holiness so we may reflect Your glory into this land. Lord, look with favour Lord, transfigure and heal. Lord of glory, it is good that we are here, bringing with us our worried and concerns for a world that is so scarred by hatred, strife and war ... Help us to understand our role as peace makers. Help us to set aside the disagreements and hurts that scar the body of Christ. May we and all those in conflict be healed by the touch of Your hand. Lord, look with favour Lord, transfigure and heal. Lord of glory, it is good that we are here, as we are in all our ordinariness, our joy and pain, we remember those who are not here with us, especially those who are in need and distress, suffering as Your Son has suffered and waiting for the salvation You promise ... May all those who find themselves in a dark place today catch a glimpse of Your glory and begin to see the world as You intend it. Lord, look with favour Lord, transfigure and heal. Lord of glory, at the transfiguration Your disciples saw You in glory. We remember those who have gone before us in faith, giving thanks for those who have shared their knowledge and love of You with us.

And even in the pain of their loss we rejoice that they now see You as You really are, Lord of lords and King of kings. To You be praise, dominion and worship now and for all eternity Amen *PASSING THE PEACE OF CHRIST

Lord, I Need You

FIRST READING 2 Peter 1:16-21 (MSG) I Was There 16-18 We weren’t, you know, just wishing on a star when we laid the facts out before you regarding the powerful return of our Master, Jesus Christ. We were there for the preview! We saw it with our own eyes: Jesus resplendent with light from God the Father as the voice of Majestic Glory spoke: “This is my Son, marked by my love, focus of all my delight.” We were there on the holy mountain with him. We heard the voice out of heaven with our very own ears.

19-21 We couldn’t be more sure of what we saw and heard—God’s glory, God’s voice. The prophetic Word was confirmed to us. You’ll do well to keep focusing on it. It’s the one light you have in a dark time as you wait for daybreak and the rising of the Morning Star in your hearts. The main thing to keep in mind here is that no prophecy of Scripture is a matter of private opinion. And why? Because it’s not something concocted in the human heart. Prophecy resulted when the Holy Spirit prompted men and women to speak God’s Word. GOSPEL LESSON Matthew 17:1-9 (MSG) Sunlight Poured from His Face 1-3 Six days later, three of them saw that glory. Jesus took Peter and the brothers, James and John, and led them up a high mountain. His appearance changed from the inside out, right before their eyes. Sunlight poured from his face. His clothes were filled with light. Then they realized that Moses and Elijah were also there in deep conversation with him. 4 Peter broke in, “Master, this is a great moment! What would you think

FEBRUARY Transfiguration of Our Lord

February 23, 2020

Ash Wednesday Lent Begins

February 26, 2020

Leap Day February 29, 2020

IN ALL HIS GLORY On the Sunday before Ash Wednesday, many Christian churches celebrate the Transfiguration of Our Lord. After telling his shocked disciples that he would die and rise again, Jesus took Peter, James and John up a mountain. Suddenly Jesus appeared to be glowing! “He was transfigured before them, and his face shone like the sun, and his clothes became white as light.” (Matthew 17:2) Moses and Elijah appeared, and a voice said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him.” Jesus’ disciples fell to the ground, overcome by fear. But Jesus touched them, told them not to be afraid and led them down the mountain. The disciples witnessed firsthand the glory of Jesus, who would soon die for the sins of the world and rise again to give us life.

Transform us, Transfigured Lord,

so we may reflect your light

in the world.

Dear Lord, we enter the holy season of Lent confessing our many sins that separate us from you. We’re sincerely sorry for offending you repeatedly through our thoughts, our words and our actions — and often through our inactions, too. Forgive us, Lord, and show us your tender mercy. Restore and strengthen us to become your faithful and faith-filled servants. During our Lenten journey, remind us to show mercy to other people, just as you’ve shown mercy to us. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
