• Open Source Revolutiono Linux is the first successful open source operating system

A Really quick history of Linux

•o Closed source OS developed in 1969 in Bell Labs (Which is in NJ)o Adopted by Berkley who cloned Unix, creating BSDo GNU Operating System

A full suite of utilities for operating computers written in C Was missing a kernel, the missing piece for their free OS

• Linux Historyo In 1991 Linus Torvalds releases the first free Unix-like kernelo GNU adopts the Linux kernel

Linux is informally adopted as the moniker for GNU/LinuxUnix History (before Linux)

Linux TodayLinus Torvalds is still the maintainer for the Linux kernel

and approves all merges.
