This is the team that Miss Maher supported at the League Tag Gala in Singleton
recently. Every student performed at his or her best and there were some out-
standing passages of play throughout the day. This level of team participation has
a positive influence on students, encouraging them to “dig deep” for the team and
these qualities produce worthy adults.
In the coming year, our students will participate in more sporting events, such as
netball, cricket, touch football, soccer and rugby league, organised by PSSA and
facilitated by our Sports Coordinator, Miss Maher. I know these experiences will
be enjoyed by all those who are involved.
End-of-year reports will be going home next week. Please take the time to dis-
cuss the reports with your children and complete the response. Your ideas and
opinions are important to us and are considered when we plan our teaching year.
Also, I would welcome the opportunity to chat with anyone who would like to dis-
cuss the reports, which are based on ongoing in-class assessment.
CANTEEN: Please have your orders in by 9.00am Wednesday.

Ready4School … little people enjoying big learning!
Level playing field
By Jess Maher
The students, Mr. Stoltenberg and I had a wonderful day in Singleton
for the Mixed League Tag Gala. All of our students showed great
sportsmanship and tried their very best which led to a win on the day! With more
skill and game development next year we will be bigger and better! Thank you to
those families that came out to support us.
We recently had a visit from our Live Life Well Health Promoting Officer and it was great to share the won-
derful things we are doing within our school in relation to healthy eating and physical activity. She was very
impressed with our healthy canteen menu and the great things we are doing to increase organised sport and
physical activity within our school.

It is that time of year again and our little people could not be
happier. Christmas celebrations have begun in the
Ready4School classroom. We have been busy writing Santa
letters and making Christmas decorations to brighten up our
room.
Our little people have only a short time left before we bid
them farewell in week 9. A celebration of their achievements
this year will be marked by a graduation ceremony on the
Wednesday of week 9 at 2:00pm. We have prepared some-
thing special for you all so we hope that you can join us. Thank
you for all of your support this year, we truly appreciate it. A
big thank you to YANCOAL for your on going support. MERRY
CHRISTMAS!
The monster in the box Narratives by Years 3-6
There’s a rumour that there was an overseer of Vault
315, who had plenty of power, water and food. The
Vault is secure so no raiders from the wasteland
come.
One of the Dwellers noticed a sound coming from a
box in the storage room. He listened carefully and
said, “No, it can’t be…. Aaah!” He sounded the
alarm and yelled, “Yao guai!” All the strongest Dwell-
ers yelled for every pet, child, mother and father to
go to the barracks and stay in the back room.
As the last Dweller, the one who found the yao guai,
ran into the barracks… “sck...pswpswpsw”…
“Uh oh, power cut,” said one of the three strong
Dwellers. The barracks door got sealed and the three
strong Dwellers, Alex Simpson, James Woodruff and
Lucas Simms, were all stuck outside the barracks—
and inside the Vault with the monster!
We heard the monster scurrying around the vents,
we saw its glowing red eyes and claw marks. We’ve
tried to catch it several times; we just hope we can
do it before the Vault runs out of water and food.
Suddenly, I see it out of the corner of my eye, it’s run-
ning at me. Schh! Most of my vision goes red and all I
hear is a loud ringing, very high-pitched. I also hear
muffled voices and gun shots. Lucas puts his gun at
the back of the one who’s firing and cheers, “kwar!”,
or translated, “I got it!” But it’s only stunned.
They bandage me up and we drag it to the boiler
room. I want revenge…
They open a fire hatch and I pick up the yao guai
and I throw it in there! Sccc! Crackle, crackle, crack-
le!
“Great, now all we need to do is to turn the power
on the tell the Dwellers,” said James Woodruff.
“I’ll grab my Mr Handy out,” said Lucas Simms.
“Okay,” I said.
We got to the power generator and got Mr handy to
fix it: bump, patter, patter…
“The lights are on now,” Mr Handy said.
We got to the barracks and opened the door. They
asked if the monster was gone and we confirmed.
After this incident the Vault returned to normal.
Alex, Year 5
One morning the postman came to the door with a bog
box. A purple people-eater was in it! A sound came
from the box. It sounded like a bear, growling and
cross, then a boy yelling for help.
The postman said, “It was for Jack.”
Jack is my little brother. He is three-years old, has
brown hair, green eyes and he is loving Hot Wheels.
“Why is it for him, not me, Max?” I asked.
“Wait and listen to me. Do you like Jack,” asked the
postman. “He is mean to me!” Max yelled.
“Can you keep a secret?” asked the postman.
“Yes, why?” replied Max.
“Okay, then inside this box is a purple people-eater but
your brother will think it is a Hot Wheels car,” said
the postman.
“Okay,” said Max.
“Here is the box,” said the postman.
Max took the box inside and gave it to Jack.
“Is this for me?” asked Jack.
“Yes it is. It is a Hot Wheels car,” Max lied to Jack.
The next day Jack undid the box and the monster
jumped out of the box and swallowed Jack . Max nev-
er saw him again. Lily, Year 4
It was the year 2017 in a small town, a local town
where everybody knows each other.
I was at school on a Friday. My friend Alex was talk-
ing to me at fruit break, asking if maybe he could
come to my house.
“Hey, James, want to come to my house?”
Alex convinced me.
“Okay,” I said.
“JAMES! ALEX!,” stormed Mrs Stoltenberg . “Pay at-
tention!”
At lunch, which is 11.00am, I got an Up and Go,
salad and a bar. “What do you have?” “I have
sandwich, cake and a bar, too”
It is Saturday and Alex is at my house. We find a
metal box in my backyard. “Wow! Look!”
“Rar! Rar!” we hear.
“Mum, get the digger!” Mum got the digger and
threw it over the back fence. We never saw it
again because she buried it with dirt. We put ce-
ment over it and built a house.
James, Year 5
One fine and sunny day four teenagers were watch-
ing a movie. Their names were Matilda, Lilly-Jane,
Clay and Noah. A cardboard box was shaking on a
shelf. They stared at it. Clay said, “It’s probably just
your pet dog.”
Matilda said, “I don’t have a pet dog.”
“Then what is it?” whispered Lilly-Jane.
Noah said, “Don’t know, don’t care.” “Really?” “Yes,”
Noah said. “It’s just a cat or a trick.”
They went to the box and looked in. It was a fat, ug-
ly, chubby, tiny monster. So they went outside.
In a rush, the monster made a mess and Mum and
Dad were coming back from their holidays in two
days!
So they thought of a plan for the next day.
“Oh no, we’ll never do it in time,” said Lilly-Jane.
“Yes we will; don’t give up hope,” said Matilda.
So they tried their plan. Matilda and Clay had to go
around the back and Lilly-Jane and Noah went around
the front. They knocked on the door and ran away
while Matilda and Clay went in.
The monster in the box Narratives by Years 3-6
“Okay, lock the door!”
“Wait, no don’t, because it could not work,” said Ma-
tilda.
They caught the monster, dug a hole and buried it,
then went inside and cleaned up.
Five hours later… “We’re done. Phew!” said Matilda.
“Do you care now?” said Clay.
“Yes,” said Noah.
“Oh no, Mum’s coming home,” said Lilly-Jane.
“Noooo, we’ve not got a new sofa,” said Matilda.
“Quick,” said Clay.
They got a new sofa just as Mum got home.
“Did you behave?” said Dad.
“Yes,” said Matilda, Clay, Noah and Lilly-Jane. Matilda, Year 3
Hello there! My name is Oscar and I’m 12 years old.
I just live with my Mum and Dad, no younger or old-
er brothers and sisters, just me. I’m cool with it, too.
I had a dream last night that somehow made me
like monsters. Weird, right? Yep! I thought so.
So me and Mum and Dad all went to the shops. I
saw a toy monster that screamed “RAAR!” It was
$10. There was one left! Gotta get it! But Mum and
Dad said ebay might have something better and
cheaper. I said, let’s have a quick look.
Mum and Dad said, “OH MY GOODNESS!”
I said, What is it?
They said it’s a huge 2metres tall monster for
$15.00! And there’s only two left! With free deliver-
ies! Get it!
So we got it.
A few days later I get it. The box makes a mon-
strous noise…
So the gentleman put the box down, I cut it open.
RAAR!!
What on earth was that? I say to Mum. She’s al-
ready asleep so I wake her up. RAAR RAAR!!
Oscar! What was that?!
I’d say it’s just the toy monster randomly making a
noise.
No worries, said Mum in a panicking way.
I now open the front of the box. The monster walks
out of the box. The mon...mon...monster is alive!
This doesn’t make sense!
So I call the guys. The guys say hello, how can I
help you?
The monster, aah, I thought you were going to
have a problem.
You know about this? I screamed.
Oscar! Take it back. Oh man. The guy hung up! I’m
so ANGRY!
I’ll call them again, hello?
Hi! How can I hep you?
I’ve got a monster toy here off your site, I opened it
and the box monster is alive.
No worries, we’ll come and pick it up. Is it giving
you trouble?
Well, not exactly. That didn’t sound convincing. Oh
fine!
Yes, it’s giving me trouble.
Okay, where do you live?
2237 Golden Highway, Jerrys Plains, New South
Wales.
Okay, thank you. I’ll see you in about 1hour 30
minutes.
Okay, thanks, ‘bye!
Four hours later…
Knock, knock, knock. Screech!
Hi! Come in!
Little monster, attention!
Raar?
Come back in the box.
Raar Raar.
Okay, wait, what’s your name?
Oscar.
Okay Oscar, tape the box.
No worries. Tape, tape, tape, tape.
Thank you! Alright Oscar, see you later and thank you
for giving us a call!
No worries! Thank you for taking the monster! ‘Bye!
Well that monster thing is gone, my life is back to nor-
mal. Let’s hope that monster didn’t make any sort of
mess. My room! The bathroom, the kitchen, Mum
and Dad’s room, the dining room, the lounge room!
Oh my goodness! Son!
Yes, Mum.
I have ordered a ring for you as a different present!
Okay, thanks Mum!
(Six days later…)
Here you go, Son.
Yay! Thanks, Mum! Now can I open it?
Yes, Oscar! You can.
Yay! Wow! It’s a baby monster! Noooo!!

Kids in the Community
Out of school learning... There are lots of fun learning activ-ities outside the classroom… Chil-dren who partici-pate in team sports learn how to collaborate with others and think for the group. These are the same skills that are required in class when stu-dents are en-gaged in critical and creat ive thinking activities.
The social benefits of group holidays enhance the inter-relationship ideals of a collaborative classroom. Sharing time, space and equipment is vital for a smooth-running lesson, and students learn to take turns.
