Finally the day has come for me to hang up my witty humour and clever repertoire and hand the reigns over to new blood. I have to say I have thoroughly enjoyed producing the Jerraganda for the last two years and hope you have enjoyed reading it as much as I loved writing it. Early in the year, Pres Paul asked if I could be nice to him just once in the Jerraganda, and I have to say I laughed. However, as my last hurrah, I will not take the mickey out of Pres Paul nor give him a hard time. So… on with my last Publication. As you all know, last Saturday was our Changeover Dinner and what a night it was. From the decorations which looked spectacular, and thankyou to Jan Pettigrew's team for a wonderful job, to the great job Peter Jarvis did of MC'ing the night. From my perspective, the whole event ran like a well-oiled machine and our member's seemed to have thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The spectacularly fantastic Pres Paul's report pretty much wrapped up our year and what a year it was, (is this nice enough Pres Paul?) Sue Roger was invited to give the Charge to Australia, and Liz Mulvaney gave an outstanding toast to Rotary International, including a toast to the Rotary Club of Glasgow. I have to say I was a pretty proud big sister. The last SGT Fine session went off with a bang and raised a record $.00. Well done to all those generous Rotarians and guests who dug very deep and entered into the spirit of the final fine session. That stunningly impressive Pres Paul inducted our latest member, Rebecca Whitehouse, into our Club and what a delightful young lady Rebecca is; despite her surprise at us old people being able to have so much fun (are you feeling the love, Pres Paul?) Congratulations to Colin Hobb's and Chris Hunter for being awarded the Paul Harris Fellow, two very deserving Rotarians who both looked very surprised and honoured! If I was asked if there was anyone I would be happy to share the Rotarian of the Year Award with, I couldn't think of a more worthy Rotarian than Bruce Miller. It was a shame that Bruce was overseas and not able to personally accept his award, but the perpetual trophy is begging to be housed at the Miller's abode and will be ready and waiting for Bruce's return. Congratulations Bruce! The Mulvaney Awards were also well received again this year and imagine that gorgeous fellow, Pres Paul, creating a record for the longest Mulvaney Award….ever! (love you Pres Paul). The Changeover Ceremony was very well done, and I would not have expected anything different from Pres Paul, the virtuoso that he is. I think we definitely used the wrong photo for the captions competition though. When DG Maureen Manning removed the Chain of Office from Pres Paul anyone Jerrabomberra

Jerra Rotary Changeover Dinner Pres Paul Roger's Final Hurrah…

Meeting 798 - 28 Jun 14

Well! Finally the day has come for me to hang up my witty humour and clever repertoire and hand

the reigns over to new blood. I have to say I have thoroughly enjoyed producing the Jerraganda for

the last two years and hope you have enjoyed reading it as much as I loved writing it. Early in the

year, Pres Paul asked if I could be nice to him just once in the Jerraganda, and I have to say I

laughed. However, as my last hurrah, I will not take the mickey out of Pres Paul nor give him a hard

time. So… on with my last Publication.

As you all know, last Saturday was our Changeover Dinner and what a night it was. From the

decorations which looked spectacular, and thankyou to Jan Pettigrew's team for a wonderful job,

to the great job Peter Jarvis did of MC'ing the night. From my perspective, the whole event ran like

a well-oiled machine and our member's seemed to have thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The

spectacularly fantastic Pres Paul's report pretty much wrapped up our year and what a year it was,

(is this nice enough Pres Paul?)

Sue Roger was invited to give the Charge to Australia, and Liz Mulvaney gave an outstanding toast

to Rotary International, including a toast to the Rotary Club of Glasgow. I have to say I was a pretty

proud big sister.

The last SGT Fine session went off with a bang and raised a record $.00. Well done to all those

generous Rotarians and guests who dug very deep and entered into the spirit of the final fine

session.

That stunningly impressive Pres Paul inducted our latest member, Rebecca Whitehouse, into our

Club and what a delightful young lady Rebecca is; despite her surprise at us old people being able

to have so much fun (are you feeling the love, Pres Paul?)

Congratulations to Colin Hobb's and Chris Hunter for being awarded the Paul Harris Fellow, two

very deserving Rotarians who both looked very surprised and honoured!

If I was asked if there was anyone I would be happy to share the Rotarian of the Year Award with, I

couldn't think of a more worthy Rotarian than Bruce Miller. It was a shame that Bruce was

overseas and not able to personally accept his award, but the perpetual trophy is begging to be

housed at the Miller's abode and will be ready and waiting for Bruce's return. Congratulations

Bruce!

The Mulvaney Awards were also well received again this year and imagine that gorgeous fellow,

Pres Paul, creating a record for the longest Mulvaney Award….ever! (love you Pres Paul).

The Changeover Ceremony was very well done, and I would not have expected anything different

from Pres Paul, the virtuoso that he is. I think we definitely used the wrong photo for the captions

competition though. When DG Maureen Manning removed the Chain of Office from Pres Paul anyone

would have thought wearing such bling was a burden, but we all know what a charming and witty

person Pres Paul is, so it must have just been for show (are we good Pres Paul?).

And now we have a new Pres Paul, just to confuse the issue. I think for the sake of clarity, we

should refer to them as PP1 (Pres Paul) and PPP2 (Past Pres Paul) … maybe not… a little relapse

there Pres Paul… please forgive me. (There is some serious adulation here, Pres Paul).

And of course we now have a new Board, so here's cheers to the outgoing Jerra Rotary Club Board

for a job well done and a great year, and welcome to the new Board and all the best for what we

will hope is another very successful Rotary Year.

And now, what I know you have all been waiting for, though I am sure there are those of you who

have skipped my missive and gone straight to the photos, (not you Pres Paul, you have no doubt

read every letter and syllable I have written), here is a pictorial journey of Sat Night (You are the

best Pres Paul).

Farmers Market Corner:

From the Pen of Paul Roger (should have been Terry….hmmm…)

Market Musings: The morning started off fairly brisk and fresh. The forecast rain was not due until later in the morning, so the blue skies and sunshine were a welcome start. Traffic duties were without incident, with drivers now understanding the temporary arrangements and cooperating well. Several patrons enquired as to the length of time the temporary arrangement would be in place. Our best guess was that we were half way through the 10 week initial advice, but whether that 10 weeks turns out to be longer is anyone’s guess. Bags sold well with the last box dwindling down to 13 bags left at the end of the day. Anton has been briefed on getting new supplies for next Saturday 5 July. A few gloves were handed in, and remained unclaimed. A wallet was quickly claimed by the owner, but a credit card remained unclaimed and Terry contacted the relevant provider to cancel it. The nice start to the day ending with a weather front hitting us at 10.55 and the wind and rain put an immediate end to the outdoor stalls. The indoor stalls followed with an early closure as the patrons vanished pretty quick. Thankyou, Paul, you are a Legend….

Market Takings for last week:

28 Jun 14 Paul Roger The Bromance Boys…

Tables $110.00

Bags $132.00

Water $6.00

Total $248.20

Comments: .20c???? You

are worth more than that, Paul…

OUR HISTORY

In 1998 the Rotary Clubs of Queanbeyan and Queanbeyan West Rotary decided to sponsor a new Rotary Club based in Jerrabomberra. Bill Lilley, John Snedden and Peter Jarvis from Queanbeyan West took on the joint roll of mentor (Peter Jarvis went on to become our Charter President).

Advertising for potential members began in March 1998. After a successful campaign, the Club was chartered on 18 November 1998 with 20 members. We are an unusual club as we have a very high proportion of female Members.

Initial meetings were held at the Jerrabomberra General Store—the venue was very good until we grew in numbers. We then moved to the Jerrabomberra Community Centre for a few years. We now meet at the Jerrabomberra Public School Staff Room, on Thursdays (6.15 for 6.30 pm). As at 30 Jun 2014 the Club has 27 members — 12 female and 15 male. Included in this are seven married couples. We also have 2 supporters of the Rotary Club.

(Charter) President Peter Jarvis ran competitions to select a name for our Club bulletin and a design for the Club banner. There were some good and (very) bad suggestions. Pam Spencer suggested the winning bulletin name; Jerraganda. The banner design by David Stevens was eventually selected. The design incorporates a goose and the windmill associated with the original entrance to the estate.
