Be a Bringer How do we view our participation in the life of a local church: as a consumer or as a contributor? Is our primary perspective to ask what the local church can do for me or what I can do for the local church? For each of us there is probably a mixture of these responses depending on our life circumstances. Sometimes we need to receive something from a local church more than we need to give something to it. But as we grow in our faith, hopefully we see the need to give back. In my own life, some of the greatest seasons of spiritual growth were when I had to decide if I was going to pri-marily be a consumer or a contributor.
During the month of November, we will be encouraged to take steps of faith to be a contributor or “a bringer”. It is only when we learn to give back that we can mature in our walk with Jesus, who came “not to be served, but to serve”. (Matthew 20:28). During the November sermon series, entitled “Be a Bringer”, we will be encouraged to bring our talents (gifts), bring our time (serve), bring our treasures (tithes/offerings), and bring our thanksgiving (worship/gratitude). On Sunday, November 23, this series will culminate with “Consecration Sunday” where each family/household will have the opportunity pledge there level of “bringing” for the 2015 calendar year.
So join me in asking the questions:
What gifts can I bring?
Where can I serve?
What will I give?
How will I express my gratitude to God?
Ephesians 4:12-13 encourages us to be willing to bring ourselves and all that God has entrusted to us “so that the body of Christ may be built up until we reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.” Blessings, Pastor Dave

Jerome Connections November 2014 | Monthly Newsletter of Jerome United Methodist
12 He did it so that they might prepare God’s
people to serve. If they do, the body of Christ will be
built up. 13 That will continue until we all become one in the
faith and in the knowledge of God’s Son. Then we will be grown up in the faith. We will receive everything
that Christ has for us.

Discover Jerome
It's the most wonderful time of the year, There'll be much mistletoeing, and hearts will be glowing when loved ones are near, It's the most wonderful time of the year.” Join us in the festivities and celebrate the season with the Scioto Valley Brass and Percussion Company (SVBPCO) sponsored by our church, Jerome United Methodist. The concert will be presented Sunday, December 7th at 3 p.m. in the church’s multi-purpose facility. The 35-piece Scioto Valley Brass performs a program of music combined with a little mayhem, which is sure to delight audiences of all ages; the young and the young-at-heart. The SVBPCO presents a program blending the serious with the silly. SVBPVO’s concert repertoire blends selections such as John Rutter’s Magnificat: Gloria Patri, with a Stan Kenton big band arrangement of Angels We Have Heard on High. Children will love hearing favorites like selections from A Charlie Brown Christmas and Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer. The highlight will surely be a musical presentation of Clement Moore’s beloved poem, A Visit from Saint Nicholas. The Scioto Valley Brass & Percussion Company is directed by Dr. Christopher Hoch. Dr. Hoch also currently serves as the Associate Director of the Ohio State University Marching and Athletic Bands and directs the TBDBITL Alumni Band. Dr. Hoch’s OSU show designs, such as this year’s Wizard of Oz and Classic Rock shows are now legendary, have been viewed by millions on YouTube and have achieved national and international recognition. This is an opportunity for Jerome UMC to reach out to the community, have some fun and to get into the Christmas spirit. Bring your friends and neighbors to what surely will be a delightful way to usher in this most wonderful time of the year.
Jerome Church will begin using a new church management software system called "Church Community Builder", or "CCB". This new system w ill allow you to manage your contact and family information as well as other church-related data, and will help our staff and servant leaders to better connect you within the life of the church.
We are currently in the process of setting up the CCB system for Jerome, and will be rolling it out to various test groups over the next few weeks with an introduction to the entire congregation expected for later this fall. Our CCB Implementation Team is very excited about this new system, and we look forward to sharing more about it in the coming weeks and months!
It is possible that you may receive an automatically generated email or notification from Church Community Builder as we work to set up the new system for use. If you have any questions or would like more information about CCB, please contact our office at 614-873-8851 or email Michelle Blackburn, Office Administrator, at [email protected]

BOOK CLUB
New Bible Study Series for Women Starts November 5th
Join us as we prepare for the Christmas season with a five week DVD based study by Adam Hamilton entitled, Not a Si-lent Night, Mary Looks Back to Bethlehem. "Imagine Jesus from Mary's point of view - proud of her son, in awe of his gifts and mission, guided by love for him as a person and so much more." Adam Hamilton is a Methodist minister from a large congre-gation in Kansas, and he uses Jesus' mother, Mary, to share the story of Christmas and its connection to Christ's life, death, and resurrection through these lessons:
1. Beginning with the End 2. The Piercing of Mary's Soul 3. Amazed, Astounded, and Astonished 4. Mary, Full of Grace 5. It Was Not a Silent Night Classes meet on Wednesday, either mornings from 10:00 am - 11:30 am led by Lin-da Walker ([email protected]), or evenings from 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm led by Becky Eller ([email protected]). Feel free to attend either session, flip back and forth depending on your schedule, or come for a lesson when you are able. Guests and friends are always welcome. You are invited to be a part of this wonderful oppor-tunity to gather with other Christian women as we explore Jesus and the meaning of Christmas through the eyes of Mary. (NOTE: No class week of Thanksgiving).
Read It and Eat book club has selected Alice I Have Been by Melanie Benjamin for our next book. Meeting is November 24 at 7:00 pm at home of Annette Seredick, 6251 Bono Court. Bring a dessert or appetizer to share.
HANGING OF THE GREENS Help us decorate the church in preparation for the celebration of
Advent and the Christmas season. Bring your family and a snack to share and join in the fun. Everyone can participate. Pizza will be
served. Sunday, November 23 @ Noon.
OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD Will we meet the Owen challenge? Owen Kiefer has challenged us to give 250 boxes this year to Operation Christmas Child (OCC). OCC is an opportunity to share the joy of Jesus paired with a box filled with gifts for those across the world who are stricken with poverty or tragedy. Instructions for packing a box are found in the lobby along with empty boxes for us to fill. How many boxes will you pack this year? Labeled boxes need to be brought to church by November 16 with a $7 donation per box (checks made to Samaritan’s Purse). Families wishing to help deliver boxes may meet at the church at 4:00 on Sunday, November 23. We will caravan to the drop-off location.
