All populations have a structure.

This structure is made up of a particular combination of groups.

A ‘group’ can be a particular section of the

population,

E.g. age group

Groups include:

Young dependents (0-15 years old)

Economically Active (15-65 year olds)

…and Older dependents (65 and over)

Of course, populations change for a number of reasons…

People are born…

People die….

People move in…

People move out…

…and we all get older every day…
