the year 2012, around 7.1 million used cars were

sold, with Germany close behind at 6.9 million,

an increase of 0.4 and 0.5 million units

respectively. According to statistics provided by

BCA, there were around 239 million cars on the

roads of Europe, out of which 70% of the cars

were found to be in five countries- France,

Germany, Italy, Spain and the UK. Germany have

1,000 people.

For customs clearance of a vehicle that runs on

petrol, environmental fees, VAT 20% and customs

vehicle, letter of temporary import is required,

granting permission for 1 year. Vehicles that are

The country permits importation of only right-

hand drive vehicles. However, left-hand drive

vehicles may also be imported if the applicant

has owned the vehicle for at least 180 days

before the vehicle's arrival in Cyprus and if the

applicant has not lived in Cyprus for more than

five years before arrival.

vehicle's first registration was in Japan).

the procedure of the Department of Customs

Import Tax Rate:

Duties and taxes on used vehicles will be 12% of

CIF and VAT of 16% of CIF including the duty. Every

motor vehicle registered in Germany is subject to

a special motor vehicle tax (Kfz-Steuer). The first

payment must be paid soon after registering the

vehicle.

Vehicle Registration:

It is allowed to drive the imported vehicle with the

home license plates and registration if one

imported the vehicle for temporary basis i.e. for a

period of up to 12 months.

Registration document with German translation

is required. If one is staying for a longer period,

then the vehicle must be registered at local Kfz-

Zulassungsstelle.

Once the duties and taxes are paid, a customs

receipt or clearance certificate (Zollquittung) or

otherwise a permit of customs exemption

(Unbedenklichkeitsbe-scheinigung) is issued. It is

Non-Italians may import one auto duty-free,

year. Customs duty must be paid, which is 11

Restriction:

Japan used vehicles imported to Russia are

inspected to detect the presence of any

radioactive substance. If something unwanted is

found in the vehicle, then the owner is given 20

days to fix the problem. The owner can resubmit

the vehicle for another inspection, limited to

checking only the requested issues.

vehicle duty free.

Ÿ Tourists are allowed to temporarily import one

used vehicle duty free for a period not exceed

to one year. The vehicle imported should be

use only for personal work.

Ÿ Vehicles imported into Russia as a contribution

to authorized capital of enterprises with

foreign investment are exempt from the value

added tax for one year beginning from the

moment of enterprise registration.

Ÿ A customs declaration including the retail cost

of the vehicle should be submitted to customs

officials by the individual. The potential

importer should also be prepared to

authenticate the retail cost. Otherwise customs

officials will assess the cost themselves based

on price information maintained by Russian

Customs.

Import Tax Rate:

Charges payable upon entry for private

permanent or commerc ia l use inc lude

approximately 20 percent of the value of the

vehicle. In addition, there may be other fees

applicable to used vehicles imported for

permanent use. Tax-free import of used vehicle is

Annual Event of Vial(Vehicle Importer Association Lanka)amaDBK attended the annual event

Rorganized by the VIAL (Vehicle Importer

Association Lanka), the official association of

vehicle importers in Sri Lanka at the Galadari hotel

in Colombo, Sri Lanka, on July 15th. The Deputy

Minister of Policy Planning and Economic

Development Mr. Harsha De Silva was specially

invited owing to the fact that vehicle import

business has become very important for Sri Lanka

economy.

The VIAL annual meeting was organized with the

support of many prominent sponsors from Sri

Lanka as well as from Japan, for instance, JUMVEA

( Japanese Used Motor Veh ic le Expor ter

Association), the shipping company ECL, the motor

vehicle inspection and many others. RamaDBK
