Binder Lake Boat Ramp The Binder Lake boat ramp sports a “rougher” texture that eliminates slipping on the moss during the summer. The ramp is at a greater pitch which makes loading and unloading much easier.

Missouri River Access The river has always been right in our back yard. Now it is easily accessible! The Carl R. Noren Missouri River Access, located in North Jefferson Recreation Area, is open from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Park Improvements

• In cooperation with Cole County Public Works, greenway trail extension along the new Business Hwy. 50/Apache Flats roadway im-provements is complete. The 1.17 mile greenway trail runs along the north side of the roadway improvements connecting Country Club Drive to Binder Park. A series of sidewalks will connect to the greenway trail offering pedestrians safe access to local businesses, residential neighborhoods and Pioneer Trail Elementary School.

• The .3 mile of greenway trail along new Creek Trail Drive is now open for use. This is the first phase to construct a greenway trail loop connector from the West Edgewood Dr. parking lot, south under Hwy 179 eventually connecting back to West Edgewood Drive. The new loop will follow the Frog Hollow branch of Wears Creek.

• Design and planning is underway to build Phase II of the Frog Hollow Greenway Trail extension. Phase II will extend the existing trail across the creek , via a low water crossing, to just west of the Hwy 179 overpass. Work is scheduled for the summer of 2015.

• Better access to the West Edgewood Drive Recreation Area will soon be possible with the rehabilitation and installation of a pedestrian/bicycle bridge over Frog Hollow branch of Wears Creek. The new bridge will connect the greenway trail at the West Edgewood Drive parking lot and the mountain bike and hiking trails located in the West Edgewood Drive Recreation Area. Project made possible through a generous donation from the Jefferson City Host Lions Club and a Land and Water Conservation Fund outdoor recreation grant.

• Construction of the Clay Street Trailhead Bike Plaza is complete. The new plaza is located at the intersection of Clay Street and West Main Street at the entrance to the Missouri River Bridge Pedestrian/Bicycle walkway. The new trailhead offers trail users off-street park-ing, water fountain, informational signage, park benches and safe access to and from the Missouri River Bridge walkway.

GREENWAY TRAIL EXPANSION

• Complete new 18 hole disc golf course at Binder Park. This project was made possible with the help of the Jefferson City Disc Golf Club. For more information about the Jefferson City Disc Golf Club and the development of the new course, visit www.jeffersoncitydis-cgolfclub.appspot.com or like them on Facebook.

• The McClung Park playground is scheduled to be replaced in the summer of 2015.• Design work is complete on the next phase of the Oak Hills Golf Course Master Plan - renovation of hole #9. Plans include shortening

the hole to a par 3, building a new, larger green complex, expanding existing back tees, constructing a new forward tee, adding new cart path and increasing the size of the retention pond. Golf course crew will begin work late winter/early spring of 2015.

• Improvements are complete at the Washington Park Ice Arena. Park crews have installed a metal roof over the warming house, com-pleted warming house ceiling, lighting and interior improvements, installed new safety flooring throughout the warming house and upgraded the HVAC system.

Our program is designed for children who have completed 1st through 5th grades who have a genuine interest in science. Pre-camp drop off begins at 7:45 a.m., camp activities run from 8:30 a.m.-4:00 p.m., and post-camp activities are available until 5:00 p.m. Your child will need a sack lunch and snack. Kool-Aid will be provided at snack. Join us for any or all six week camps! Keep in mind, science is explosive-please make sure your child dresses to get messy! Classes are held in conjunction with the Capital City Sailing Association. CCSA was founded in 2008 with a mission to promote the art of sailing, sportsmanship, and water safety. CCSA hosts weekend sailing and sailboat racing May through October. The Association welcomes sailors of all experience levels. Members are always looking for crew so there are plenty of opportunities to get on the water. During the summer, CCSA hosts sailing events at Binder Lake several times a month. We also orga-nize more structured events from time to time throughout the year. Check out events calendar at www.jcsailing.org or contact one of our members for more information. Adult Lessons: CCSA offers an introductory 3 session series to acquaint individuals with the basics of small sailboat handling. Enrollment is limited to individuals that are skilled in swimming and 15 years old or older. Participants should be able to swim and bring any custom life jacket needs, non-skid boat or water shoes, drinking water, a hat and sunscreen. For more info, contact Paul Rudder, CCSA Facilities Chairman, at 635-7995 or Parks & Recreation at 634-6482.

Youth Lessons: This special introductory class for youth ages 7 to 15 teaches the basics of sailing. Those signing up must be comfortable swim-ming and being in the water. Class is limited to 5. Things You Should Know.....30

Our lifeguards are highly trained and skilled. Their job is to assist in making our facilities a safe and enjoyable place to bring the family. However, they are not babysit-ters. Parents are expected to watch their children and to assist in enforcing the policies for the safety and enjoyment of all patrons. All children 8 YEARS OF AGE AND YOUNGER must be accompanied and supervised by a person 15 years of age or older. Our business is keeping your kids safe!

Pool Rules:• Pools are open daily except during threatening weather (thunderstorms and lightning) or when the projected high air temperature is

74 degrees or cooler.• Profane language is not allowed at the pools. If you choose to use this type of language you will be asked to exit the facility for the

day without a refund.• All patrons must pay to enter the pool whether swimming or just observing.• Any individual wearing street clothes will not be allowed admission into the facility, unless you’re a parent or guardian of a child 8 years

or younger.• Appropriate swim attire must be worn. This includes male swim trunks, female one and two piece suits and tankinis. Suits should not

be see through. No thongs, long pants, jean shorts or shorts with belt loops or rivets and anything else deemed not appropriate by the management staff.

• Certified lifeguards are on duty at all times for your safety.• Children 8 years and under MUST be accompanied and supervised by a person 15 years of age or older.• Outside food, drink, coolers or glass containers are not allowed into the pools. Both pools have concession stands to meet your needs.• Pool patrons are not allowed to leave and reenter the pools. Exceptions will be made for adults with manager’s approval.• Parks and Recreation reserves the right to check baggage if deemed necessary.• Persons must be able to swim on their own to use any waterslide.• During periods of low attendance, various attractions and/or pools within the complex may close.• During periods of extreme heat or high temperatures, staff will take 10 minute safety breaks throughout the day to clear the pool.• Parks and Recreation is not responsible for lost or stolen items. Coin operated lockers are available at each facility.• Paging of patrons is NOT permitted. It is the responsibility of pool patrons to make communicative arrangements prior to entering.• Smoking is not permitted anywhere in the pool complex or parking lot.• Any person suspected to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs will not be permitted into the facility.• Complimentary lifejackets are available at the admission booth.• Water wings and small inner tubes are permitted if parent/guardian is within arms reach of the child. Rafts and large inner tubes are

NOT PERMITTED.• Noodles are allowed into the facility.• Close fitting swim diapers are required for all children who are not potty trained. Swim diapers are available at the admission gate for

a nominal fee.• Diaper changing stations are available in the restrooms. Please use them when changing your child’s diapers.• Children 12 months and under are free during public swim hours.• If you, your child, or anyone in your family has had diarrhea in the past two weeks, please do not use the pool.• It is the responsibility of the patrons when entering the facility to read and obey all posted signs for safety.

A Word To Parents...

Memorial Park Family Aquatic Center & Ellis-Porter Riverside Pool

In an effort to keep our pool free of fecal matter, toddlers are required to wear swim diapers or plastic pants. Swim diapers are the safest barrier between your toddler and the water. These guidelines have been adopted for the health and safety of all who swim at our facilities. If your child has been sick with diarrhea please keep them at home until they are well. You may purchase swim diapers at either pool for a nominal fee or bring your own.

When inclement weather occurs, aquatic staff will remain at the pools and attempt to re-open the pools as soon as possible. If patrons remain at the pool, and we are unable to re-open after 45 minutes, a pass will be issued for one free future ad-mission with proof of receipt. This policy is in effect until one hour prior to official closing. For pool closing information, call the Parks and Recreation Hotline, 634-6485 and press #5.

Things You Should Know

The views of any program or activity ad-vertised within this guide and sponsored by any organization other than the Jefferson City Parks and Recreation De-partment do not necessarily reflect the views of the Jefferson City Parks and Recreation Department.

Sponsorships

The Parks and Recreation Commission believes that no youth should be denied access to Parks and Recreation programs for financial reasons. The Parks and Recreation Foundation makes recreation sponsorships available to those who otherwise would not be able to afford to participate in organized recreation activities. Those seeking sponsorships will be asked to complete a Recreation Spon-sorship Application Form available through the Department of Parks and Recreation. Sponsorships are generally limited to those receiving benefits from a form of public assistance as designated on the ap-plication form. Sponsorship funding is limited to $200 per individual per calendar year and is re-stricted to ongoing programs conducted by Parks and Recreation staff. Specialized programs of short duration conducted by non-staff members (e.g. baseball clinics) are ineligible for sponsorship funding. All application forms requesting fund-ing for youth programs must be signed by the parent/guardian of the prospective participant. Participants/parents must pay a minimum of 20% of the registration fee for programs for which sponsorship assis-tance is requested. Questions concerning this service may be directed to Phil Stiles at 634-6482.

Jefferson City is home to an award winning Parks and Recreation Department. As the capital city of Missouri, maintaining our local parks and recreation facilities and implementing programs to meet the ever changing needs of our community and its visitors is a challenge. The Jefferson City Parks and Recre-ation Foundation strives to provide ad-ditional resources to leverage taxes, fees and grants to enhance our parks and rec-reation services. Over the years, civic minded individuals and organizations have maintained a tradition of enhancing the quality of life for their families, friends, and neighbors through generous donations to the Jefferson City Parks and Recreation system. In 1992, the Jefferson City Parks and Recreation Foundation was formed to pro-vide continuing leadership and foster the expansion of parks and recreation services in Jefferson City. The Foundation’s goal is to emphasize the value of parks and recre-ation - both passive and active - not only for individual growth and development, but also for a strong family unit and for making our community a more desirable place to live, work, play and visit. If you believe, as we do, that whole-some recreation pursuits make individuals more productive in their homes and com-munities and lead to a healthier and hap-pier life, please commit your support to the Jefferson City Parks and Recreation Foun-dation. Land, trees, fountains, benches, shelters, activity fees for youth programs are all gifts that can make a difference in people’s lives. Any and all size of gifts to our community are appreciated and con-tribute to the livability and quality of life of Jefferson City. For more information on how you can make a tax deductible contribution of land, money, or other gifts, please contact the Foundation’s Executive Director William Lockwood at 634-6482.

Foundation As a recipient of federal funds from the U.S. Department of the Interior, the Jefferson City Parks and Recreation Com-mission and the Jefferson City Department of Parks and Recreation operates programs subject to the nondiscrimination require-ments of Title VI of the 1964 Civil Rights Act. Under Title VI, the U.S. Department of the Interior strictly prohibits discrimination because of race, color, or national origin in its federally assisted programs. Any person who believes he or she has been discriminated against in any program or facility of the Jefferson City Department of Parks and Recreation, or desires further information regarding Title VI, should write immediately to: The Office for Equal Opportunity U.S. Department of Interior Office of the Secretary Washington, D.C. 20240

In any Parks and Recreation program, a participant who is bleeding or who has blood on his/her clothing shall be pro-hibited from participating further in the ac-tivity until appropriate treatment has been administered. Appropriate treatment may include bandaging as necessary to prevent re-currence. This policy has been implemented to protect the participants, coaches, staff, and their families from diseases trans-ported through the accidental contact of tainted blood. If medical care is needed, the participant must leave the activity until the problem situation has been resolved. A 70% isopropyl alcohol solution must be used to disinfect the skin and clothing. All infected areas must be thoroughly cleaned before this individual is allowed to con-tinue participating in the activity. This may require that the player remove affected clothing and replace it in order to be able to continue participating. All participants should bring an extra shirt, pair of pants/shorts, and socks to each activity to change into in the event a blood incident should occur.
