HEATHER HASLAM

PROGRAM DIRECTOR + INSTRUCTOR

Program Co-Director & Instructor. Heather is a certified

medical esthetician with more than 20 years of experience

in the spa industry, and over 10 years as an instructor. She

is also trained in make up artistry, reflexology, microcurrent,

microdermabrasion, and chemical peeling. With the addition

of business education and marketing, Heather owned and

operated her own spa business for many years. JCI is so

fortunate to have such an expert sharing her experience and

knowledge with the students!

SABRINA ST. PIERRE

INSTRUCTOR

Born and raised in Fredericton, New Brunswick Sabrina

came to Vancouver with more than 10 years of experience

in hairdressing and esthetics. In New Brunswick, Sabrina

owned and operated her own spa and salon but in the

end was drawn to Vancouver for JCI’s Fashion Business

& Creative Arts Diploma Program. Although Sabrina will

always have an interest in fashion, her main passion is with

the spa industry. While living in Vancouver, Sabrina has

worked with Absolute Spa, The Holt Renfrew Spa, The Bay

Salon. She currently operates a successful home business

along with instructing part-time at JCI. Sabrina takes a

caring and positive approach with her teaching, and we

are honoured to have her instructing at JCI.

JENIFER STERLING

INSTRUCTOR

CI Body Spa Esthetics Graduate, Jenifer Sterling has

been a part of the service industry for over 15 years.

Starting off completing her degree in Biology, Jen naturally

gravitated towards a career in Esthetics, where she could

combine her schooling with her love of meeting new people

and improving their lives. Currently working at the award

winning Willow Stream at the Fairmont Pacific Rim, Jen is

at the top of her career! Jen is constantly educating herself

and those around her, therefore working with students

who are starting off their exciting new careers was the next

logical step. With an incredible love for her career and a

respect for her students, Jen brings creativity and energy

to everything she does!

LA RISSA LARAMEE

To maximize opportunities in the beauty

industry, La Rissa completed both the Body

Spa Esthetics and Make up Artistry programs

at JCI. Her combined education opened the

door for an amazing opportunity where she

was hired to create and develop the “in house

protocols” for a brand new Eco spa “She to

Shic Boutique Beauty Lounge”. La Rissa not

only utilized her skills in esthetics and make

up, but she also assisted with the business

aspects including involvement in PR and

Marketing. One year later she was recruited

by the Absolute Spa at the prestigious

Fairmont Hotel at the Vancouver Airport

performing 5-star client services. Today, she

is a member of the same 5 star Hotel chain,

and is a spa team member at the Elizabeth

Milan Spa in the Royal York Fairmont Hotel in

Downtown Toronto.

BRITTANY OLNEY

With Brittany’s firecracker personality,

it didn’t take long for her to land her dream

job. This enthusiastic spa therapist headed

east and received a plum job with Chel Salon,

an Aveda concept spa in Saskatoon. She

performs all spa client services including

special events and photography make up.

She keeps up to date with industry trends

by attending trade show conventions

and seminars.

BREEN SWANSON

As the Overall Program Achievement Winner

in her class, Breen showcased her leadership

skills throughout the program and her

commitment by traveling by ferry from the

Sunshine Coast everyday in order to complete

the Body Spa Program. Those early mornings

certainly paid off as Breen accepted a job offer

from the Luxurious Painted Boat Resort before

she even graduated.

JESSICA NEIL

Hailing from the Okanagan, Jessica moved

to Vancouver in the Fall of 2008 to begin her

journey at JCI and to fulfill her very lofty goal

of owning her own spa. She first completed

the Make up Artistry program, which enabled

her to take on freelance work while attending

the Body Spa program in the evenings. After 2

years, and a ton of hard work, not to mention

many boxes of Kraft Dinner, she was offered

an incredible position at The Watermark Beach

Resort in Osoyoos. In addition to working in

the spa, Jessica is the head Make up artist for

wedding events. We at JCI all believe it won’t

be long before this successful graduate is

unlocking the doors of her own spa!

NAIL TECHNICIAN

Performs professional treatments including manicures, pedicures, acrylic nails, gel nails, fabric nails, crystal nails, fills, backfills, nail art, and hand and foot massage. They possess excellent communication skills and have a clear understanding of proper spa cleanliness and sanitation.

ESTHETICIAN OR SKIN CARE CONSULTANT

Administers an array of basic and specialty facials, waxing services, and lash treatments. They have a full understanding of the skin, and facial massage techniques.

BODY SPA TECHNICIAN

Responsible for client services that include an array of body massages, body exfoliation, body masks and localized treatments. Fully educated in all areas of the skin, anatomy, and spa hygiene.

SPA MAKE UP ARTIST

Applies Make up for day looks, evening looks, and special occasion looks.

SPA MANAGER/SPA OWNER

Manages a team of technicians including hiring, scheduling, and employee reviews. Monitors reception duties, and responsible for inventory, restocking, and tracking success.
