The first meeting of KU Pride hosted by public affairs has been rescheduled to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 26, in the Sunflower Room. Plan to stop by for refreshments and to hear an update from our inaugural class of 1

st-year students.

Contact us at 293-2643 or [email protected] with questions or suggestions for content.

We are taking our lecture series to the next level. Beginning in September, we will partner with Newman University for HealthPulse, a lunch and lecture program held on Newman’s campus. This great community partnership opportunity raises the growth potential of our audience, which helps get our name out there. Lectures will still be held at noon on Tuesdays monthly and lunch will be offered for a $5 registration fee. Watch future issues of JTO for the new schedule of topics and presenters. You can still listen to past Live & Learn lectures online. Audio recordings and notes are available for each lecture.

Did you know public affairs offers a variety of items to support your department events? We’ve got your banners, flags, directional signs, easels, beverage tubs, and giant inflatable Jayhawk covered. Visit our website and fill out an event support request form to reserve the goods that will make your event shine.

Is there a special event happening in your department? Do you know a student who has an interesting hobby, or who has made a significant accomplishment? Are you involved in community outreach? An educational program? A hands-on workshop or training session? Public affairs wants to know about any and all of these events. There are a variety of ways we can publicize events and accomplishments in the school, but we can’t promote them if we don’t know they’re happening. Though not every event is going to catch the attention of the media, we can still promote your event through one of our social media accounts, our monthly community newsletter, or by writing our own feature story for the school’s website. Keep us informed. Drop us an email and tell us what’s happening. We’ll share the good news.

Employees who have not yet qualified for the incentive discount on their 2015 health insurance premium now have more time to participate. The deadline has been extended to Nov. 15. Those who complete the required health assessment questionnaire (worth 10 credits) and earn an additional 20 credits (for a total of 30 credits) by Nov. 15 will qualify for a $480 premium incentive discount for plan year 2015. Employees can confirm their discount status by logging into their account and clicking on the “My Printable Credits Summary” link from the left menu. Get full details on the Rewards Program. Note that the next HealthQuest program year will now begin on Nov. 16. Trisha Richmeier, Office of Research Applause, cheers, and cartwheels to Trisha for being my partner to complete the F&A space survey. When KUMC reached out to me stating they needed Wichita to identify how space is used for the federal F&A rate, I immediately thought of Trisha as the ideal person to help and someone that I could depend on to complete the project. I appreciated Trisha’s initiative, solutions, and collaborative spirit. Much appreciated! Nominated by Tyann Orton, assistant dean for finance Mike Vogts, ITS Mike implemented a new way to access MAS90 software for MPA employees at no additional cost that dramatically improved performance and reduced time needed to complete tasks for those that use it. Way to go Mike! Nominated by Penni Smith, director, ITS

The WCGME Research Council has made changes to the grant program “KUSM–W WCGME-KBA Bioscience Matching Fund.” This funding mechanism supports collaborative relationships between KUSM–W faculty (volunteer and full-time) and other researchers/faculty located in businesses, health care systems, or other universities. The program is designed to further collaborative research efforts that have formed (or are in early formation, i.e. beyond the planning stage), to provide preliminary data which can be used for further larger grants. Please see our research website for more details.
