To the right, to the leftWe will fight to the deathTo the Edge of the EarthIt's a brave new world from the last to the first

To the right, to the leftWe will fight to the deathTo the Edge of the EarthIt's a brave new world, It's a brave new world

A warning to the prophetTo the liar, to the honest

This is war

Repitition

“This is war”

Jared Leto repeats this phrase many times. I think the meaning behind the phrase is that the song explains what it is like for a soldier in a war and when he says “This is war” he is saying that this is what war is like and what comes from war.

Anaphora

“It’s a brave new world”

I think the meaning behind this phrase is to emphasis what happens after a war. After every war the world is different, it’s a new world.

Historical

“The moment to live and the moment to die”

When becoming the soldier you always have a 50% chance to live or to die, but either way, in my opinion, you will always be remembered.

Rhyme

“It’s the moment of truth and the moment to lie”

“The moment to live and the moment to die”

Jared Leto uses rhyme here to draw the listeners attention. I think the meaning behind this is to explain what the life of a soldier is, “Moment to live and the moment to die”.

Historical

“We will fight to the death”

Soldier will fight to the death with no fear. It is part of being a soldier and part of their “code”. “I am prepared to give my life in their defense.” That is one the direct quotes from their code.

Historical

“To the Edge of the Earth”

This quote is very historical because at one point people did think that the earth was flat. Thanks to Christopher Columbus’s journey he proved that the Earth was round and that it had no edge.

Metaphor

“To the Edge of the Earth”

I think Leto put this in to make connection toward the historical reference of the believe of a flat earth.

Historical

“The pariah”

Pariah is someone of the lower class. People were called pariahs if they were poor, had low caste or no caste at all, lower class. This term was used in parts of India where caste systems were used.

Theme

“The good and the evil”

I think this is the theme of the song because the song is about the good and bad about a soldier’s life and how the soldiers have to fight for what they want.

Historical

“It's a brave new world from the last to the first”

I thought this was historical because it makes you think about how the world was a billion years ago compared to now and how much has changed. Also what will come to the future and what will change.

Historical

“The war is won”

Throughout the years of all the fighting and all the wars, we have always won. Wars like WWI, WWII, etc. After all the fighting we come out of top. This is historical because it shows we have won like we always have.
