January 2015
The Celebrations of the National Day of the Kingdom of Bahrain
On the occasion of the National Day of the Kingdom of Bahrain, the Cultural Office organised celebration events
for Bahraini students in three major cities in the UK, Leeds, London and Bangor. There was participation from
more than 120 students who gathered from all regions of the United Kingdom to participate in these events.
The decision to commemorate the occasion with several different cities on the same day and at the same time
required field teams of students who helped organise the events with great success, and without everyone’s
efforts and hard work this would not have been accomplished.
Students expressed their happiness and gratitude at being able to celebrate with fellow Bahrainis, making the
occasion feel like festivities back home.
Cultural Counselor Mr. Subah Al-Zayani met Bahraini student Aqeela Abuidrees at the Cultural Office and
congratulated her for completing a Master’s Degree in Science at the University of Lancashire.
Aqeela handed in a copy of her thesis entitled 'Accelerate the multiplication of the DNA process' which
revolves around the patent developments in the field of genetic locations that are exposed to rapid
mutations from one generation to another.
Mr. Subah praised her for choosing this specialization and carrying out important research, which included
a lot of scientific tests and finding out how to obtain a patent to reduce examination time of 4 hours to half
an hour, a task which needed a lot of dedication and hard work . He wished her success for the future and
said she will undoubtedly contribute in serving the nation and the development of sectors that are in need
of modern science.
Completion of Master’s Degree
Mr. Subah Al-Zayani had a meeting at the Cultural Office with Ms. Basma Hakim, the
International Officer of University of East Anglia and Mr. Craig Smitherman, the assistant
Head of International Recruitment.
They discussed the development of Bahraini students at the university and the new programs
it has to offer, in addition to innovative ways to support the students and help them achieve
their full potential to accomplish the highest grades possible.
