The new year is a time to look back at all the PTA fun and success of 2010 and look forward to our opportunities in 2011. We continue to increase our membership, increase our parent involvement with more volunteers, and our facebook page has over 240 fans! 2011 has more fun and work waiting for us! It’s the best time to be part of something BIG at Chenoweth. Check out our volunteer opportunities on the back of the newsletter. Our thanks to everyone who makes Chenoweth & our PTA great. All the best in 2011! find us on facebook: www.facebook.com/chenowethpta Tour dates for perspective families preparing to choose a school for their child are busiest during January and February. I thought you might find it interesting to hear the facts I share while giving tours. Chenoweth has 526 students enrolled. This number has been stable for the past several years. Our staff is composed of highly qualified, veteran teachers who average 12 years of experience. They have master’s degrees and in some cases specialty certifications. Our special area teachers (Arts & Humanities, PE/Practical Living, Computer Lab, Science and Library Media) are full time, so our students receive extra special area instruction each week. Our staff has little turn- over. We have more teacher requests to transfer to Chenoweth than any other elementary school in Jefferson County. Our office staff was among the 1st group recognized as 5 Star Customer Service winners as designated by JCPS. We were able to solve problems and give accurate information to anonymous callers and visitors. Our students excel in the classroom. Recently we met 14 out of 14 goals for No Child Left Behind. All populations of students showed growth toward meeting our academic goals. Our Core Content Test scores are in the top quarter of all JCPS schools. This includes schools who have selective requirements to attend. Eighty percent of our students were proficient or distinguished in reading and math. Teachers expect a lot from our stu- dents….. therefore we get amazing results. Our PTA is a critical component to our success. The PTA just flat out “gets the job done”. They truly are partners in helping EVERY child and family be successful. Any time I see a need for our school they join forces and find a way to meet the need. During this time of school tours and enrollment for new families, please share the news about Chenoweth. We truly are an exceptional school! Penny Deatrick Chenoweth is Exceptional!

What Makes You Feel Special?

All Chenoweth students are invit-ed to participate in a state PTA con-test for the Self Esteem Award. The entry must be in the form of an essay, story or poem of 500 words or less. It must be the original work of the student. The theme is “What Makes Me Feel Special.” Look for the flyer coming home with more details or visit the 15th District PTA website at http://15thdistrictpta.org/awards.html

Chenoweth FilmFestival

Each year, Mr. Hockenbury challenges our 5th Grade students to collaborate on projects using digital video and film editing. The students conduct research, write a script, edit, promote and market their film which is shown at the annual Chenoweth Film Festival. This year’s festival will be on April 14th at 6pm, but work on the films will begin in February. Mr. H needs the help of parents to make this year’s festival bigger and better than ever. Parents can volunteer to supervise filming during school hours or parents can donate items (like giant cardboard boxes) that can be used to build the sets for the films. Please contact Mr. Hockenbury at [email protected] if you are able to help or have any other creative ideas for the festival.
