2 | Welcome to St. Cecilia Catholic Church - Formed, United, Enlivened
In January 2018, St. Cecilia Parish participated in a very successful clothing drive for
the St. Vincent de Paul Society’s Thrift Store of
Waterloo. Multiple truckloads of donations were
accepted and loaded. The success was captured
in the April 6, 2018 issue of The Witness.
Our next parish-wide service project will be
the collection of personal paper products to
benefit area organizations that provide
shelter and/or daycare services to our
brothers and sisters in need.
We believe factors that led to the success of clothing drive also apply to this project:
The ability for all parishioners to participate. Unlike many projects in which we
see the same volunteers, everyone is encouraged to chip in to the best of their ability.
Even young children can “earn” their contributions by completing chores at home.
Our contribution will again be tangible and visual. As the pile begins to take
shape, it motivates others to add their contribution.
Contributions go directly to those in need with zero administrational costs. For a list
of beneficiaries for the “Let’s Roll” personal paper products service project, along
with a short description of what they do, please visit our website (stcames.org).
Parishioners are requested to bring donations to Masses the weekend of
January 25-26, 2020.
Here’s a list of the personal paper products that we’re collecting for the Parish-wide
Service Project:
—Diapers (all sizes and ages) —Baby Wipes —Cleaning wipes —Paper Towels —Toilet Tissue —Facial Tissues —Feminine Hygiene Products —Recyclable (cloth) grocery bags (to be used during distribution) —Cash (to be used to purchase above paper-based products)
Remember your contribution the next time you’re at the store. This is a cause we
can all roll with!

The Sacrament of Marriage
The Sacrament of Marriage can be celebrated
at a time convenient to the couple and in
accordance with the parish schedule. The date
and time of the celebration must be scheduled
only with a priest or deacon of the parish. The
couple must contact a priest or deacon of the
parish preferably one year prior to the
desired wedding date, but no less than six
months prior to their desired date. The
St. Cecilia Wedding Guidelines 2020, is
available from the Parish Office and on our
website. This contains additional information
and guidelines.

The Mission of the Parish Life Committee is to nurture the
groups under our umbrella to ensure that all members of
St. Cecilia feel welcome and find a social as well as
spiritual home within our community.
We currently have 15 organizations under the Parish Life
umbrella, ranging from ministering to those experiencing
emotional hardships (Funeral Lunches, Prayer Chain), service
& fellowship (Circles, Play Group) and welcoming/hospitality
(Welcoming Committee, Coffee & Donuts). If you have an idea
for a new organization – and are willing to lead it – we will
help you with ideas and best practices. Please contact Sue
Scoles at 515-306-4041 if interested.

Stewardship: Today we remember the three wise men
from the East who came to pay homage to the infant Jesus,
bringing Him rich gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. The
gifts we bring—our time, service, and some share of what we
earn for the work we do—are equally precious in his sight.
Marriage Corner: “They were overjoyed at seeing the
star, and on entering the house they saw the child with Mary
his mother.” (Mt 2:10-11) Spend some time today as a family
basking in the joy of Christmas. Visit a nativity scene and pray
together.

Still not sure about the STO thing? It’s simple. If you file an
Iowa income tax return, your contributions to the Our Faith
STO receive a 65% tax credit. That means for every $1000 you
donate, you receive an Iowa income tax credit of $650. Thus, a
$1000 contribution reduces your Iowa tax liability by a
whopping $650 AND the gift may qualify as a charitable
contribution on your federal income tax return. And, that gift
you made? It helps make a Catholic education affordable for
every child. The available Iowa tax credits are filling up fast so
visit www.ourfaithsto.org or call the Archdiocese of Dubuque
at 800-876-3546, x219 or 307 to learn more.
