THIS AND THAT

It’s been a busy few weeks for our parish

community. We gathered for nine nights of

prayer to Our Lady of Guadalupe culminating

with the feast day itself on December 12. Three

days later we hosted the first night of the re-

gional Simbang Gabi novena with close to 500

people in attendance. Of course, there was a

great celebration in the hall afterwards. The

Women’s Guild had a potluck celebration for

all ladies of the parish on the Sunday between

the two novenas. On December 20th, our reli-

gious education community led us in the

posada beginning with Mass and concluding

with ritual and fellowship in the hall. Christmas

Eve and Christmas Day followed shortly there-

after with our liturgies in our beautiful church

and of course, the music of Christmas. Christ-

mas time continues now as we celebrate the

Epiphany of the Lord in this New Year.

All of the above and other gatherings too nu-

merous to mention takes the efforts of many

people. Thank you! Thank you for your gen-

erous desire to turn around and follow Jesus

manifested in countless ways! Thank you!

We keep Christmas this year until January

10th, next Sunday, the feast of the Baptism of

the Lord. If you are using a blue book you will

find that is when it concludes. The gifts have

been given and most of the cookies are gone

but we celebrate the Nativity of the Lord a bit

longer. God came home to earth when he took

flesh in the person of Jesus Christ. As the

Christmas preface (prayer before the Holy at

Mass) says the invisible becomes visible, the

eternal entered time. His birth is the beginning

of our salvation. We take some time to relish,

ponder, and celebrate this most concrete ex-

pression of God’s love for us.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

May God bless us all,

Fr. Ted
