Are you interested in joining the Catholic Church? The Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults, RCIA, is a pro-gram for people interested in exploring and possibly joining the Catholic Church.

Adults wishing to enter the Catholic Church typically receive the sacraments of Baptism (unless baptized in another Christian faith), Confirmation, and the Holy Eucharist at Easter. Our new program has started. Feel free to join in at any time. All are welcome! RCIA meets every Tuesday evening at 7PM in the Siena Room. It is not necessary to sign up. Please contact Sally at 707-731-7933 for more information.

Dear Brothers & Sisters in Christ, Saint John Paul II said, "Community is at the heart of all Catholic education, not simply as a concept to be taught, but as a reality to be lived . . . Your students will learn to understand and appreciate the value of community as they experience love, trust, and loyalty in your school and educational programs, and as they learn to trust all persons as brothers and sisters created by God and redeemed by Christ." Before coming to Benicia, I was ministering at our Dominican Parish in Eagle Rock, Los Angeles. It was there I was introduced to the practice of visiting students in the parish school and allowing them to ask questions about our Catholic faith. I was amazed at the depths of thought our little ones have for God and our faith. I have continued this practice here at SDS and continue to be edified by the goodness and grace I encounter when speaking with our students. I’d also like to recognize the sacrifices our school families make in order to choose Catholic education for their children and develop a Catholic identity in their kids. The trusting relationship among the parish, school and family provides a solid framework to equip a generation of saints for this life and the next. Today marks the start of National Catholic Schools Week. Our own St. Dominic School students and their families will be demonstrating their commitment to community through a variety of service projects this week. The enrichment programs and hard work of our student families, the school faculty and staff are on display today in the Annual Open House. Having a thriving school requires a true partnership between the church and the school, please stop in and show your support and continue to pray for our students and their success. God Bless you, Fr. Jerome, O.P.

2014 Donation Statements will be sent

via email by January 30th. Please call the parish office if you need to add or update your email. Paper statements will only be mailed if requested.

Do we call ourselves Christians because we follow His example? Do we call ourselves Christians because we

follow His teachings? Perhaps there is something deeper?

Br. Brad Elliott, O.P. explains why, even

before what Jesus did and taught, it is who He is that is vital for the Christian life. It is in Jesus's very identity that we find, not only the key to explain all that He did and taught, but

also provides the very key to understand the meaning of the Christian faith.

Dear Parishioners,

At St. Dominic School we are lucky to learn, play, and grow in a special environment. This would not be possible without the generous support of people like you, the members of St. Dominic’s Parish. When you support our school, you invest in the future of all of our students and the Catholic Church. As we celebrate National Catholic Schools Week, we want to thank you for all you do to help our school. We are grateful for your prayers and contributions, and we appreciate the time and talent you so generously share through your volunteer efforts. The National Catholic Schools Week theme is “Catholic Schools: Communities of Faith, Knowledge, and Service.” We consider St. Dominic’s Parish an important part of our community, and we hope you will join us as we celebrate our Catholic education this week by visiting our open house this weekend. St. Dominic School has a rich tradition of excellence and I aim to live up to the high level of success that has been set by so many great educators, parents, pastors, and students who have preceded me. I am truly blessed to be part of this wonderful learning community and can only hope that your family will be a part of it, either as student families or generous supporters. Many Blessings, Katie Perata Principal

UNDERSTANDING GRIEF AND GETTING HELP 7 WEEK SERIES CONTINUES FEB 1ST, 11AM

Grief is a journey many people face. It follows great loss, usually of someone very close, but sometimes the loss of a marriage, a job, or a home can result in the feelings we call grieving. Each person experiences grief in a way that is unique to that individual, but most cycle through all the aspects of grief for varying lengths of time. If you know someone who is grieving, be there for that person. Encourage the bereaved to join our support group and accompany them if you can. St. Dominic’s Grief Support Group began another 7 Week series on Saturday, January 10th at 11AM in the Aquinas room. Come, if you are grieving, or bring someone whom you know is suffering. Series runs Saturday mornings thru Feb 21st. We at St. Dominic’s want to support you on your journey. Our series is highly respected throughout Solano County, led by trained facilitators for peer-to-peer support on the seven stages of grief. For more information contact Joanne Flanagan 707-747-9416.

St. Dominic’s Preschool is accepting applications for the 2015-2016

school year!

Offering a three day a week program (Tues-Wed-Thur) and a five day a week program (Mon-Fri). School hours are from 9AM-12PM daily with an extended care option from 7:30AM-5PM. Our curriculum, The InvestiGator Club™ Prekindergarten Learning System is a

comprehensive, fully-integrated curriculum which builds upon children's natural curiosity about the world and their place in it. "Purposeful Inquiry," the heart of The InvestiGator Club, awakens the scientist and the explorer in every child. Children learn to use their senses, ask questions, and find answers in a supportive environment. Award Winning Program Director, Tanya Sanchez says “Not only do we have a specific curriculum that we use, but our

children learn life long skills. We encourage each child to grow and learn according to individual needs and abilities. We create an environment that is safe, loving, caring and respectful.” In addition to a structured curriculum students also learn to grow in their Catholic faith through classroom instruction, attending monthly St. Dominic School Masses in the front row, celebrating the Saints and more. Building faithful hearts and habits are rewarded through our school Student Learning Expectation Awards along with the K-8 students. Come see for yourself or tell a friend. Children applying must be 3 years old on or before Sept 1 and fully potty trained. For those interested, please call the Preschool at (707) 745-4430.
