• 18 (+/-) disparate/working databases – some co-resident with LIDBs• Numbers are to be found in only one CNAM Database• Local Number Portability (LNP) and Telcordia tables are used to locate

the right one (LNP accuracy discussed)• Of all fields of data – only 2 of which are general “care abouts.” The

Name and Privacy Indicator• Why do you care about that? (We process about 80 million CNAM

transactions per month.)• You will want to store your CNAM data to allow for your customers’

names to appear on their called parties’ Caller ID boxes and …• You will want to HUB for CNAM to deliver callers’ names to your clients

when they are called.

How does it work?



• The peculiarities of CNAM:

– Five fields– Important is the name and Privacy Indicator– Name is limited to 15 characters – Privacy Indicator is shown to tell if a subscriber has

requested a permanent “Private” so their name is not displayed on a phone – why??

– About 1.5 Seconds – 1st and 2nd ring



• And that leaves - 911 ??– Accuracy

– Connectivity

– Roaming

• Do not have all the answers for this, but true location identification seems important.

– Triangulation: Cell Tower, TV signal, Wi-Fi
