Greetings From the GM Happy New Year Salina Country Club!
I hope that everyone had a great holiday season and are slowly
taking the time to get back into their routines. It was a pleasure
being able to celebrate the holidays with many of you along with
your family and friends. Salina Country Club is a special place this
time of year and a lot of that feel comes from the members. We
tried a stretch of new things in December with our 7 Days of
Wonder and would love to hear your feedback. If you need to
know dates for next year, just flip to the back of the newsletter. We
want you to be able to plan as early as you want!
January is a fairly quiet time every year. People are catching up
with savings, picking up around their houses, getting things done
that they may have put off until the end of the year! We are the same here at Salina Country Club.
With the club being closed from the 1st through the 14th, we will provide maintenance to some of
the areas that get the most exposure during December and touching up some other areas of the
club. This gives us a chance to regroup and start our year off the way we want to. We also want to
make sure we are doing everything we can to ensure your year goes great! Most every day, there
will be someone on site so if you need anything, don't hesitate to reach out!
We are excited that this month we will be rolling out new banquet menus. We are very focused on
driving banquets and catering events this year. We will make these menus available to you online
so you can reference them for any of your needs. We are at a point where we have enough staff
that we can branch out some and attract business in different ways. Please keep us in mind for any
events, space, or meetings you need this year as we need you up here!
Thank you again for an amazing 2019!
We are thrilled to be going into 2020
with you as our membership.
Best regards,
Chris Nickell
General Manager

Thank you everyone for joining us in the Christmas spirit! Whether you
enjoyed Christmas Eve dinner, gingerbread house building, or ugly
sweater night, we hope you had a blast!

Welcome to a new year at Salina Country Club!
Golf rounds and participation were down last year but we have many new
events as well as popular events to get you up here! We've included the
2020 Golf Schedules in the newsletter this month and will be getting it online
shortly. There may be some slight changes overall, but for the most part this is
what the year looks like! Until then, if you have any questions about
tournament dates please give us a call.
Winter Cart Policy: During the winter months please keep carts in the rough
as much as possible, and use the 90 degree rule when crossing the fairway.
This will help the condition of the fairways going into Spring.
Pro Shop Sale: We are making room for 2020 Spring merchandise so stop by
the Pro Shop this month for some great buys on clothing and equipment. Discounts up to 75% off!
Re-Grip Special: This is always a good time to make sure you clubs are ready for the new season, especially
grips. Our re-grip special will continue through January (re-grip the irons and hybrids, get the woods re-
gripped for free).
Club Storage: Winter or Summer, the worst thing you can do to your golf clubs is store them in the trunk of your
car. Extreme cold and hot temperatures can cause the club heads to loosen, and will deteriorate grips over
time. If you are not currently taking advantage of SCC club storage, consider it for 2020. Club storage
charge for the year is $150 which includes storage, cleaning after each round, handling of bags to and from
carts, and minor club repairs.
Handicaps: Please notify the Pro Shop if you do not want a handicap for 2020. The club will be billed in
February for each name on the handicap list so if you are still on the list as of January 31st you will be charged
for a handicap.
I just want to remind everyone that the Pro Shop and Golf Course/Driving Range will be
closed from January 1st to January 14th. We will be back open on January 15th so let’s
hope for some good weather to play some golf! We will be cleaning and working on
the Pro Shop throughout the 2 week shut down, so if you are travelling or just need your
clubs we will be up here to get them for you.
Thank you for a wonderful 2019 and for your continued support and I am looking
forward to seeing everyone in the New Year!

Happy New Year!
I am very excited for this year and ready to get the golfing season
started—ok maybe it’s a little early but in Kansas you never know.
The crew and I have been busy cutting down some trees and are
almost done sprucing up the trash cans, yardage markers and tee
markers. We are also going through all the
equipment to make sure there is little downtime during the season.
The fairway project will start towards the middle of next month, but
we will be preparing for it by cutting the turf around the sprinkler heads and trimming and cutting
down trees, especially on # 16 to allow the zoysia proper sunlight for the grass and also to help dry
out that area. The plan is to also install drainage to keep the area dry.
Like I said before we are all so excited for this year and ready to start mowing and getting the
greens back to our high standard. We need everyone’s help with making the course the best it
possibly can. That means following the cart policy especially this time of year. The off-season cart
policy is to limit cart traffic in the fairway, so please drive in the rough or cart path to play your next
shot even when it is in the fairway. Staying at least 30 yards from the green will help the new seed
we planted in the fall to survive the winter months. The grass has a hard time recovering this time of
year since it is not growing much and traffic stresses the grass. Fixing ball marks will also help keep
the green surface smooth not only for you but everyone
who plays after you.
I appreciate all your support and care for the golf course
and Salina Country Club, have a great new year.
Chris R.

Happy New Year!
The year 2020 is going to be full of puns about perfect vision…
and I can’t wait to see them all.
Thank you all for a great 2019! Salina’s membership makes
the Club a great place to be. We have a great team here
at SCC and are excited for 2020.
This upcoming year, we are looking forward to more social events.
Whether it is a Break Your Resolutions Party in January or a Mardi Gras
Party in March, we want to make sure there is always something going
on at the Club. For all the great events coming up this year, check out
SCC’s annual calendar on the last page of the newsletter!
Thanks to the new Junior Sponsor Promotion, we have received a wave of inquiries and
applications. The new promotion directed towards the 21-35 age group has been a game changer
in the Salina community, bringing young professionals to the Club for both golf and social activities.
Please join me in welcoming the newest members to the Club:
Chaz & Megan Coberly
Tobey & Claire Mullen
Austin & Lisa Hoppock
Tyler & Kristen Burnett
Don’t forget to join us for some of the fun events this month after the Club re-opens January 15th.
This month’s Passport Series is taking us to Italy on January 16th! Chef Bradley has created an
authentic Italian menu to transport you from Salina to Parma. January 31st brings our Break Your
Resolutions Party—yes—a party dedicated to breaking your new year’s resolutions.
Don’t forget to share your photos with us on social media! Whether you’re here in Salina or traveling
overseas, we love to feature your photos in the newsletter and on our social pages.
Thank you for all you do and let’s have a great year,
Abby
