Press Release CHANGES for Pensacola Camellia Club (PCC) Programs & Events through April 2019

January 2019 Tuesday January 15th - General Club Meeting, Skip Vogelsang/Show Chairman will give a presentation on the “PCC December 2018 Show Results. Location: Garden Center, 6:30 pm for social, 7:00 pm program. See video from the show at https://pensacolacamelliaclub.com/photo-galleries/. Saturday January 26th - - PCC will be at the YMCA located at 3215 Langley Ave for a

camellia grafting demonstration by John Davy of Panhandle Growers starting at 9:00 am until Noon. There

will be camellia plants for sale and members available to answer your questions about camellias. This is a

FREE event open to the public.

Wednesday January 30th - PCC members and friends will gather at 8:30 am at the Club’s T. Morris Shade

House located at 3279 Pine Forest Rd, Cantonment to carpool to Jim Smelley’s greenhouses. Jim has

hundreds of camellias in three greenhouses that are a “must see” opportunity. Once we arrive, you will

have to select which camellia you desire to graft onto Jim’s under stock of Taylor’s Perfection. Price of $30

includes one graft and your lunch. More information will be shared by Dick Hooton at the January 15th

February 2019

Saturday February 16th – PCC Members will be at Palafox Market selling camellia plants of various types.

Tuesday February 19th - General Club Meeting, Guest speaker to cover “Amaryllis as Companion Plants”

and Christi Hankins will cover “History of the Club part 2”. Location: Garden Center 6:30pm for social, 7:00

pm program.

Sunday February 24th - University of West Florida (UWF) Camellia

Garden Tour and Plant Sales from Noon to 4:00pm. February is the

height of our Pensacola camellia blooming season, so the gardens

should be magnificently beautiful at this time. The UWF Camellia

Garden is a collaboration of UWF, the Pensacola Camellia Club and

the UWF Retired Employee Association designed to showcase

Pensacola registered camellia plants, along with other camellias

from around the world. Club members will be on hand to

demonstrate air layering and answer your questions. A wide variety

of desirable camellia plants will be available for purchase at this time. This is a FREE event open to the

public.

March 2019

Saturday March 2nd - Community Camellia Show for Novice Gardeners with Plant Sales will be held at

the West Florida Main Public Library, 239 N. Spring Street in downtown Pensacola. This show is open to

everyone with a camellia growing in their yard. Learn how to show your bloom, complete entry forms, and

discover what judges look for in a bloom. Prizes will be awarded in various categories- size of blooms,

species, Pensacola variety and “unknown variety.” Plant sales begin at 10:00am, so come early for the

best selection of quality camellias. Bloom entry: 9:30-10:30 am. This is a FREE event open to the public for

viewing the winning blooms 11:00-3:00pm.

NEW DATE Wednesday March 20th - PCC Annual Banquet.

Please make your reservation with T. Morris at 850-746-4080 for PCC Annual Banquet at V. Paul’s Italian

Ristorante. Cash bar opens at 5:30 pm, with dinner at 6:30 pm. Evening will include a Camellia Plant

Auction, installation of the next season’s board members, and the Person of the Year Award. Price has

remained the same at $30.00 per person, which includes tax & tip.

April 2019

Tuesday April 16th - General Meeting. Peggy DeArmon and Pierre Kaufke to present “Camellias in Bonsai

Form”. Location: Garden Center, 6:30 pm for social, 7:00 pm program.
