You’ve been asking about our 4-H Summer Camping Program, so here it is! 4-H Camp will be held July 18-22, 2016. It is for youth in grades 4th – 6th this school year. The applications are due to your 4-H leader by January 29, 2016. If you have not completed it and are interested, please do so immediately. All applica-tions should be submitted through your 4-H leader at each school.

Parents, please, please, please look at your summer schedule to see if there is a possibility you can attend as an overnight chaperon!! Overnight Chaperon training takes about an hour and is good for five (5) years.

4-H Summer Camp

Hi New 4-H Member!

I am back again as promised and checking on your 4-H work. I hope that you were able to complete some of the activities in your book over your holiday break from school. I have made lots of suggestions in the December Hotline and if you finished all of the work, you are doing a great job!

Last month in the Discovering the World of 4-H book and the Exploring the World of 4-H book, you worked on pages that talked about being a good Citizen to others. This month, we will focus on Science, Engineering, and Technology or SET as we like to call it in 4-H. That means that in the Discovering the World of 4-H book you will work on pages 20-36 where there are activities that will teach you all about ATV and Hunter Safety, fishing gear, types of products that come from animals, pet care, and photography. In the Exploring the World of 4-H book, you should be working on pages 23-34 which covers activities on parachutes, balloon jets, insects, environment, growing your own tree, and forestry.

If you came to the Project Book Workshop on December 22nd at 4-H Office then you were able to complete many of these activities completed! That is a great way to be sure that you are finished your record book by February!

Keep in mind all of the great opportunities for you in 4-H as you work through the activities in your record book. Re-member to keep your record book neat and clean and deco-rate it if you wish. Pictures are always a good idea. See YOU next month!

Yours truly, Clover

Service– Learning Planning & Preparation

Youth voice is an essential principle in service-learning. There are many different ways to engage youth in a service-learning project. Youth as planners—involved in creating a vision, setting goals, and determining objectives; identify community needs, develop action plans and time lines, recruit volunteers, conduct community outreach, and evaluate the outcomes of the project.

Youth can conduct fundraisers to support the project and decide how the funds should be spent. Youth can even play the role as policy-makers to help sustain their community change. They can be directly involved in helping set policies that will change social problems.

Any 4-H member in 8th grade or younger, who is enrolled in any of the wildlife project books could win an all expense paid trip to one of the state’s many Wildlife and Fisheries Management and Research Areas. Crabbing, Fishing, Swimming, Boat Rides,

and much more could be yours if you submit your environ-mental/wildlife related project book to the 4-H Office by Feb-ruary 26th along with a 4-H Portfolio. 4-H members may need to do additional work to qualify for this contest; howev-er, the parish record book may be enough to qualify. The top two parish wildlife books will be sent to the state contest to compete for the wildlife trips.

The wildlife records include wildlife activities in Discovering the World of 4-H, Exploring the World of 4-H, You and Nature, You and Plants, Wildlife Pioneers, Aquacul-ture, Birds, Insects, Forestry, and Fur. Interested 4-H’ers should contact Mrs. Hannah at 291-7090.
