    That Everyones Talking About!

People have been cleansing for thousands of years because of

the physical and mental benefits you experience. Body cleanses

work to remove toxins from our digestive system. A big benefitfrom a cleanse is the natural energy youll feel. Your skin looks

better, you feel leaner and when you feel good on the inside, the

    happier you are.

Deep body cleanses can help to lower your accumulation of

toxins. Everyone, no matter how clean a life you lead, will

accumulate toxins, and over time this accumulation can

overload our detoxification system and keep our body from

running as efficiently as it should. An overload of toxins may

also be a major cause of many diseases. As part of a

deep body cleanse, Cleanse & Lean can be taken with

    L-Tox, ADRX, Essential Omega, L-Glutamine, Vit-Acell,

turmeric, red clover and Max Green Synergy. These

products taken together will help cleanse your liver, colon,

kidneys, lymphatic system, skin, blood and lungs.

"I recently gave in to my five year long dream of competing. When I

became part of a local coaching team, my coach started me off on a

cleanse that included the supplement, Cleanse & Lean. I saw

immediate results within just one week, including less bloat and an

initial weight loss of about eight pounds. Seeing this, it had me

feeling energized, motivated, and fueled to continue on with prep,

which resulted in placing top five of my first ever competition!"

Cleanse & Lean is the best product on the market. I do not take any fat

burner supplements during my competition preparation. I take Cleanse

& Lean a few days before my competition to get that lean and fit look.

Cleanse & Leanmakes you feel and look better!

As a busy mom of three year old twins, avid runner and yoga instructor I have found

that Cleanse & Leanis my "go to" supplement. Cleanse & Leanhelps me get the lean

cuts and definition along with a healthy diet that I work so hard for. It helps me

to feel better and rid my body of excess toxins and water. As a fitness studio owner

I am asked frequently about different products and recommendations from different

companies and I always recommend with no hesitation to my clients, Cleanse & Lean

    because it works!!!

I have not been able to have "normal" bowel movements for the last

18 years due to a previous surgery I have scar tissue in my bowels.

Since lean and cleanse I have been "regular" and happy! There are no

side effects other than happiness. I love my Cleanse & Lean!

Important Tips For a Successful Cleanse:

Add more soluble fiber during cleansing! Fiber and Max Cleanse & Lean work together. Fiber acts

like a mop, gathering up toxic materials released and helping to sweep them out of your body.

Drink more water than you usually do! Bloating is often a result of festering bacteria from backed

up food in our bodies that is fermenting and sending out poisons through our bloodstreams. Water helps

to flush the toxins in your body and even dilutes their concentrations during the detoxification process.

Bring down your toxic load! Opt for organic and pesticide-free foods so you have fewer toxins in your

body. Dont forget about the psychological toxins, too. Dont schedule your cleanse during a high stress

time. Instead, consider taking some personal down time, and be sure to support your body with exercise

    while youre cleansing.

Cleanse & Lean contains ingredients designed to gently cleanse the digestive tract.

HUSBAND & WIFETEAM UP TO LOSE

WEIGHTMy wife and I have lost 109 pounds together sinceNovember 17th last year. I had started losing weightand didn't find Max Muscle until end of December. SoI started the MaxForm Life Challenge on 1/1/14. My

wife started taking Max Muscle products around midFebruary but did not join the challenge. Anyway, wehave lots of pics and are pretty proud of ourselves.

Duane Blair, posted on Max Muscle's Facebook page

THE NUMBERSDON'T LIEOn February 1st of this year, Brenda andPierre, franchisees of the Max Muscle store inBrentwood/Antioch, California, started me onan 8-week nutritional plan. My goal walking in

there was to lose as much weight as possible inthe next 8 weeks. What I didn't know was theyhad their own agenda. What they gave me wasan education on a more healthier way of living, and a journey that is going to last far behind that. They provided me with weekly meal plans, alongwith recipes, and explained to me that I will bespending a lot of time meal prepping and eatingout of Tupperware.

We met once a week for weigh ins, measurements and a consultation (which wasmore like therapy). They even required me tokeep a journal, logging all my meals, plusanything extra I ate even if I cheatedwhichI would eventually find out was NOT a good

thing to do. It felt like soooo much work, and itwas. But what I came to understand was theyweren't just trying to help me lose weight. Theywere educating me on how to better understandmy body, and how important it is to give it theproper nutrition.

I learned it is not about losing the pounds, but to eliminate all of the crap that brings onthe pounds, and what keeps them on. When Istarted, I weighed 218 lbs., and I was at 38percent body fat. My January (2014) bloodwork showed all of my readings were elevated, including my blood pressure, which consideringI was going to turn 39, scared me a lot. I havesince had a new panel and have recentlyreceived my results.

Because of the dedication, passion, motivation, patience, understanding andcoaching from Brenda and Pierre I was able seemajor gains on the outside, but most importantlyinternally. I dropped down to 186 lbs., downfrom 38 percent body fat to 23 percent body fat;blood pressure from 145/90 to 112/65, bloodsugar from 107 to 75, cholesterol 227 to 177,HDL from 4.8 to 3.3, and triglycerides from 180to 127. I wanted to send this testimonial as asign of my gratitude for what you guys helped meto accomplish.

    2 WWW.MAXMUSCLE.COM JANUARY 2015

    JOE'SCORNER

Joe Wells is the founder and CEO of

Max Muscle. He shares important tips for

    healthy living and sports performance

every month. Read past columns on

    MaxSportsandFitness.com.

THE QUESTION THAT I am probably

asked most often is, How much protein

should I consume daily? I literally give

protein advice to young athletes and

active individuals dozens of times a

week. Whether you are running, biking, lifting weights or participating in sports,

you need to understand how protein

repairs our bodies. An active body will

expend more energy than a sedentary

or inactive person, and thus, more

protein and calories will be needed.

Protein TimingBefore we calculate how much protein

our body needs, it is very important

    to understand protein timing. Protein

timing simply means to space out your

protein consumption daily. This is veryimportant because protein elevates

    nitrogen in your bloodstream, and

nitrogen is essential for building and

    repairing muscle tissue.

When you consume protein, it begins

to digest. As it digests through your

body, it elevates your blood nitrogen

levels for about 4 hours. This is why

    nutritionists advise eating multiple

servings of protein daily. For optimal

results, smaller doses of protein 4-5

times per day spaced 3-4 hours apart

can double your lean muscle gains overa given period of time.

Protein ConsumptionProtein needs of active individuals and

    athletes are obviously greater than

    that of non-athletes. The Academy

    of Nutrition and Dietetics, Dietitians

of Canada, and the American College

    of Sports Medicine recommend the

    following for power and endurance

athletes and active individuals based on

    body weight: 1.2 to 1.7 grams/kilogram

body weight per day (or in pounds,

    approximately 0.6 - 0.8 grams/pound

of body weight). Many athletes simply

round up and calculate 1 gram per

pound of body weight. I prefer to use

the pounds calculation as most of us are

aware of our weight in pounds. So here

are a few examples using the formula:

    1. Very Activeand weigh 180 lbs.

    180 lbs. x 0.8 = 144g of protein

    2. Moderately Activeand weigh 140

    lbs. 140 lbs. x 0.6 = 84g of protein

    3. Competing Athleteand weigh 220

    lbs. 220 lbs. x 0.8 = 176g of protein

    4. Intense Athletes this one is a

simple calculation 1g of protein per lb.

    of body weight

Now calculate and divide your total

protein consumption by 4 or 5 smallermeals throughout the day. If eating 5

smaller meals is simply not possible,

then do four meals or snacks 4-5 hours

apart. So, if you are example No. 2

above and are trying to eat four protein

servings per day, then simply divide by

four. So 84 grams of protein divided by

4 equals 21g of protein four times per

day. This does not need to be exact,

but it is a guideline. You may have a

15g protein bar for a snack, too, and

that is OK your nitrogen levels will still

spike up. Also if you have a 30g protein

    HEY JOE,

    how muchprotein do Ireally need?

lunch, it's OK. Just keep trying to space

your protein in 4-5 servings or snacks

    throughout the day.

Max Muscle has 150+ stores across

the country and we specialize in

timing and elevating nitrogen. Stopby your local Max Muscle store for

The True Keys TSustained Weight LossMost people who put their minds to it can lose weight. But nomatter whether the weight came off rapidly or slowly, or howit was lost, whether through a low fat or high protein or calorierestriction plan the vast majority of those who lose weightregain it within a year. But a recent study from the MiriamHospital in Providence, Rhode Island sheds light on the keyfactors involved in long-term weight loss maintenance.

e research was a 10-year observational study of 3,000participants who had lost at least 30 pounds and had kept it

off for at least one year. e goal of the study was to determinehow well they kept the weight off over time and to identifypredictors of successful weight loss maintenance.

e findings?ose who were still maintaining their weightloss at years five and 10 had continued to do the following:regular physical activity, regular weight monitoring, a low-fatdiet and dietary restraint or avoiding overeating.

e researchers also found that those who lost more weightto begin with and who maintained the loss the longest had thebest long-term outcomes.

Potatoes Not theVillain in Weight GainAlthough one medium-sized skin-on potato has only 110

calories per serving, contains no fat, sodium or cholesterol, and has lots of great nutrients, including potassium and

vitamin C its high glycemic index, or the ability to cause the

blood sugar to rise rapidly keeps it on the diet no-no list,

according to some nutritional experts. But a new study from

the University of California at Davis and the Illinois Institute

of Technology found that potatoes, long given a bad rap

when it comes to weight loss, wont necessarily prevent you

    from shedding those pounds.

In the study, those participants who consumed 5-7 servings

of potatoes each week (cooked in a healthy way) were able

to lose the same amount of weight as those who ate low

glycemic index foods, given the same calorie restrictions. This

led the researchers to conclude that calorie reduction ratherthan eliminating foods or food groups, is the most important

    factor in weight loss.

The upshot?A healthy baked potato sans the butter,

bacon bits and sour cream wont make or break your diet.

    1. First, protect your hands by

    using an alcohol-free hand sanitizer

    like GermBloc, which kills 99.99

germs in 15 seconds and offers up

    to 4 hours of protection.

2.A recent article in USA Today mentions that "Gyms

are a breeding ground for germs" and The Clinical

Journal of Sports Medicine found that 63 percent of all

gym equipment is contaminated with rhinovirus, which

causes the common cold. So use a anti-microbiral spray

Craving a hot fudge sundae with gobs of gooey chocolate and caramelsyrup? You may blame your weak willpower if you cave, but it may

actually be your gut bacteria that are to blame. Researchers from UCSan Francisco, Arizona State University and University of New Mexicorecently found that the bacteria that live in our guts may af fect both our

cravings and our moods to get us to eat what they want us to. The gut is a diverse community of microorganisms (microbes), many ofthem bacteria. Each persons microbiome, or community of microbes,

is different. And each type of microbe varies in the nutrients they growbest on, whether fat, sugar, or other substances. They vie with eachother for food and to retain a niche within the digestive tract, and

they also release signal molecules into the gut in order to get more ofwhat they want. Because the gut is connected to the nervous system

through the vagus nerve, these signals transmit to the base of the brain, changing our taste receptors, producing toxins to make us feel bad and

chemical rewards to make us feel good. So your sweet craving maybe a result of microbes that feed off of sweets and send signals to yourbrain to make those sweets taste extra good, leading you to want more. Does that mean youll always be a slave to your cravings? Fortunately

not, say the researchers. The competition between our desire to eatthe right thing and the microbes desire to have us do otherwise is a

two-way street. We can alter the composition of microbes within thegut within a mere 24 hours of eating the right things, making the gut aninhospitable place for those microbes that feed off of unhealthy foods. So, go ahead and eat a tiny bit of what you want, but no excuses

    for overindulging!

    DO GUT BACTERIADRIVE OUR CRAVINGS?

    3. Use GermBloc laundry rinse to

    protect your workout gear from

bacteria and germs at the gym before

you even go. The rinse creates a

barrier that bonds to the fabric. Germs

    can't survive on this barrier.

Quadra Cuts Night Time Metabolic Activatorby Max Muscle Sports Nutrition

(MMSN) is designed for adults to help sustain maximum calorie burning while you

sleep. Unlike preparations that leave you feeling over stimulated and restless in the

evening, Quadra Cuts Night Time provides the fat burning factors throughout the night

and assists you in sleeping by combining gentle, but effective sleep aids promoting a

    great nights sleep.

Quadra Cuts Night Time Metabolic Activatorcontains the Night Time Burn Blend

with four scientifically proven fat loss accelerators including, L-Carnitine (fumarate),

7-KetoDHEA, Garcinia cambogia extract (Hydroxycitric acid, HCA), and Chromium(polynicotinate).

L-Carnitine helps body fat reduction by transporting fatty acids into muscle cells for

fat burning, which helps prevent fatty acid buildup and fat stores. L-Carnitine is

absolutely essential for all fat metabolism to take place in the body. L-Carnitine and its

precursors, L-Lysine and Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid), make it possible to increase energy

    while burning fat.

7-Ketois the trade name for the compound 3-acetyl-7-oxo dehydroepiandrosterone

(DHEA) and a proven safe, effective and innovative weight loss ingredient. Like DHEA,

it is known to decline with age. Human clinical studies have shown that 7-Keto

accelerates weight and fat loss compared to a placebo in overweight individuals

when combined with a program of diet and exercise. 7-Ketoworks naturally in thebody to enhance the activity of three thermogenic enzymes promoting the burning of

    HOW MANY TIMEShave you revved

yourself up, your heart brimming with

a righteous determination to climb that

Mount Everest of weight loss, only to

TXLFNO\ QG \RXUVHOI IDOOLQJ EDFN LQWR

that valley of bingeing and lethargy?

You dont mind the hard work you do

plenty of that already. The time even

exists in your schedule; you cleared

that afternoon slot for a month solid. To compound the problem that diet

    plan you carefully constructed with

the help of your personal trainer, an

overpaid nutritionist, and even a best

friend or two has come apart at the

seams. And you just cant stop eating.

What is going on exactly? Perhaps

    theres something beneath the surface

that is sabotaging your efforts. So lets

dig deeper into what these inner issues

might be and how we can overcome

    them.

0UZ[HU[ .YH[PJH[PVUIn a world of fad diets and

    Photoshopped abs, we are bombarded

    with unrealistic images and

    H[SHFWDWLRQV ZKHUH ZH H[SHFW YH

pounds of weight loss success to look

like 50. Dr. Michelle Cleere, a Bay Area

    sports psychologist makes the following

    point about all-or-nothing thinking:

Whether they are athletes or in it for

the weight loss, many of my clients

ZDQW LQVWDQW JUDWLFDWLRQ ,I WKH\ FDQW

guarantee success, many of them saywhy bother?

    Instead of setting our expectations

so high so fast (which too often leads

to utter failure), why not think about

success in increments and enjoy the

layers of partial success? For those who

cant do this, I (as a licensed therapist)

wonder if the underlying issue or fear

    is that admitting/accepting partial

success makes you realize how far you

have to go and that you are, in fact, far

    from perfect.

    ;OL 0T UV[NVVK LUV\NO 4LU[HSP[`0RUH GLIFXOW WKDQ SHUFHLYLQJ RXUVHOYHV

as less than perfect is the underlying

belief that we are simply no good to

    begin with.

    Sports psychology professional and

mental skills coach Erica Carson makes

the following point: What if I do

everything Im supposed to do and still

dont succeed? If I fudge on the eating

or the training, I have something to

EODPH :KDW LI , QG RXW WKDW ,P

    simply not good enough?

Does this ring a bell? Do you get in

your own way, agonizing about your

impending doom as you envision your

    heros quest through the Himalayas?

$ ODFN RI VHOI FRQGHQFH FDQ EH D UHDO

buzz kill when it comes to climbing

onto that Stairmaster and pushing go.

    Still, maybe you understand that

every journey up the mountain beginsZLWK D VLQJOH VWHS 2ND\ QH %XW ZKDW

if it isnt the slow, upward climb that

frightens us, but what waits for us at

    the top?

,TV[PVUHS ,H[PUNWhile you are permitted a cheat meal

here and there, it is no secret that

one of the keys to lifetime weight

management is a dramatic and lasting

change in your eating habits. Carson

maintains that eating is a coping

mechanism: How will I manage onceI lose my coping mechanism? Food

can help us manage anxiety and/or

    depression.

Do you eat to stay sane? How

much of your success in your career/

    marriage/you-name-it depends on your

ability to keep your stress levels in

check? Emotional eating is a common

ailment and a tough habit to break. As

a therapist, I have worked with dozens

of clients for whom food is a form of

    self-medication.

4LU[HS ;OPUULZZEver wonder why it is so much easier

for some people to lose weight than

    others? Especially those who were

once in great shape? Not only aretheir bodies attuned to being thin, but

maybe you wonder if they are not, in

some way, mentally thin? A mentally

thin person does not need to use food

as a coping mechanism, nor does the

prospect of a dramatic change in his

body mean a whole lot because in a

sense he is already thin before he ever

    starts working out!

    Regarding people who have been

overweight for some time and then

    have experienced weight loss, Dr.

Michelle Cleere states, Emotionsare not attuned to this process, this

new way of living. In a way you miss

your old self, your old body. Its like

someone who has lost an arm or leg

and can still feel their phantom limb.

    People who are overweight sometimes

use their weight to be their buffer

to the world. And when they lose

Journaling is one sure-fire way to get into thosedeeper layers of yourself and figure out what

might be stopping you from achieveing success.

the weight, they dont know how to emotionally deal with

people and situations because in their mind they are still

    overweight.

Often, people who lose weight snap back into the person

they were before they lost the weight. Whatever belief

system or thinking patterns they harbored before they

started losing weight are still with them as and after they

    shed the pounds.

Okay, so now what?I believe there is a lack of congruency between the personwe are and the person we wish to become that person

weight goes far beyond the simple mechanism of burning

    calories.

The secret is that introspection and psychological

maintenance may be the missing link in your workout

regimen. Here I have developed a few tools and tips to help

the inner you keep up with the changes that are happeningin the outer you.

    1. Dont compare yourself to others. Compare yourself toyourself. If we compare ourselves to others, we invariably

put them on a pedestal. Put yourself on that pedestal.

Compare your waistline of today to the one you had three

weeks ago. Compare your current Stairmaster cruising

speed to the body that could barely keep pace for more than

    a few minutes.

    2. Dont change too quickly.Another way of saying this is,stretch but dont break. Keep your weight loss gradual, no

more than a pound or two per week.

    3. Journal.Keeping a journal can be a great way to stayconnected to your weekly workout plan and to process any

feelings of anxiety or depression that may arise.

MS&F: What is your advice to

others who want to compete ina contest like this or those who

just want to lose the weight andfeel great?

JB:My advice to anyone is to geta meal plan from Max Muscle and

commit to a lifestyle change. Itstough to put so much trust into a plan

if you, like me, have failed so manytimes in the past. Theres always that

little bit of doubt in the back of yourmind saying, What if I do this, and

its not worth it? All I can say is, trustthe plan, ask questions, use your

supplements and keep the faith thatit will be worth it because when you

get to the end and look back, youllrealize how fast the time went and be

so happy and excited that you tookthe leap and made the commitment

JENNY'S FAVORITE MANTRA:If you dont like something, change it. If you cant change it,change your attitude. Maya Angelou

This is my life motto and you can

apply it to any situation. Beingmiserable or unhappy is a waste of

time. It doesnt solve problems or helpanyone, including yourself. I think itsreally important to remind yourself toenjoy life and look for the good in

    even the bleakest situations.

I drink MaxPro every day after workouts and for my sixth meal (right

before bed). It is a high-quality tested product with 30 grams of protein

and 0 grams of sugar that gives my body the protein it needs to recover.

Its great to drink for my sixth meal because its a blend of fast and slow

digesting protein so it stays with me longer throughout the night and

helps repair my muscles while I rest.

Max Vit-Acell is a liquid multivitamin/mineral that I drink every

morning after breakfast. Steve told me it is the most important

product I could take, and he was right! It boosts my immune

system and overall health so I can continue to train hard and feel

great. I love it for my overall health and well-being.

Cleanse & Lean is apowerful, little pill that I

    What Others are Saying:

What Jenny has accomplished in justa few months is amazing. Her father and

I are very proud of her dedication, determinationand discipline. We told her numerous times thatwhether she won the competition or not, she was a

winner. She had already won, or I should say earned, more than any amount of money or recognition

could give her. She earned a beautiful, healthy and strong body.

    Mother, Robi Kroger, 54,Lincoln, Nebraska

Jennifer is a very smart young lady. Her

Max Muscle nutritional specialist was able toexplain weight management in a way that generateda life changing routine for what I believe will belife long changes for my daughter. I wish I hadexperienced Max Muscle in my younger years...

but better late than never. Father, Max Kroger, 68, Lincoln, Nebraska

The biggest thing that I have noticed about heris her confidence. She is much more confidentin her body, how she looks to herself and herperception of how other people see her has

improved tremendously. In addition, her energy isup and she is much more happy on a daily basis

and I believe these things are all by products of hernew confidence that she has. Husband,

Nick Broers, 25, Fort Riley, Kansas

This is something that anyone can do. Jenny isjust a shining example of setting goals and neverlooking back. You can have excuses or you can

have results. You cannot have both. Steve Lucchino, Max Muscle franchisee of
