From Your Exalted Ruler:

Happy New Year everyone!!!

Can you believe that 2011 has come and gone? May God be with you in 2012. May it be filled with happiness, health, prosperity, love and peace for each of you and your families. I hope that everyone enjoyed the holidays. For me it was all about my family, my children, and grandchildren. What joy

they bring to me. The events at the lodge during the holiday season were a great success and a whole lot of fun. Thanks to all who contributed. From the Christmas party, to the Veteran’s Committee breakfast and “Shop With A Cop”, to just socializing at the bar… everyone who got involved really outdid themselves. Thank you all!!! Again, Happy New Year to everyone. Please keep our troops in your prayers and I hope to see all of you soon at the lodge.

Thank you,

John Buckner Your Exalted Ruler

From Your Esteemed Loyal Knight, House Committee & Visitation Chairperson:

Well, Christmas has come and gone. I hope your Christmas was blessed and wish everyone a great new year. Remember to transfer all of the birthdays and other important dates to your new calendar and add one year. These notes will come in handy when buying birthday cards (especially for the little ones in your life).

The lodge had a very good year. All of us should feel proud of our accomplishments for 2011. I'm looking forward to 2012. Hope you are too. Tom

From Your Esteemed Leading Knight:

Messages From Your Officers and Committee Chairpersons

Greetings to all Elks: I hope that all of you had a very Merry Christmas. Now we are entering a new calendar year of 2012 and I want to wish each of you a very happy New Year. We have had a very good holiday season at the Lodge with all the activities, children’s Christmas party, Shop with a Cop, and various

other events, but, thanks to each of you who participated all events were very successful. This is what Elkdom is about. As we enter the new year of 2012 I hope that all of your wishes for the new year come true. And for those members who have had to deal with some illnesses and who still are, I extend my best wishes and pray for your well being. Together we as members of the Manchester Elks Lodge can and will make the new year a better year than 2011. Again I thank each and everyone of you for your support to the Lodge and wish each of you a Happy New Year. Your Esteemed Leading Knight, Joe Cichacki

From Your Secretary, Membership

and Lapsation Chairperson:

From Your Esteemed Lecturing Knight, Youth Activities, Hoop Shoot Director, E.N.F., Benevolent Trust Chairperson:

Happy Holidays to you and yours. I am hoping that all of you have had a wonderful holiday season. I have enjoyed the time off myself and am ready to take on the New Year. This year has been an eventful one and looks like 2012 will be the same. With that comes

the good news for the Hoop Shoot Contest. We will be fielding a full roster of young athletes for the District Hoop Shoot Competition to be held at Troy Middle School, in Troy, MO., Saturday, January 14, at 10 AM. The winners in their respective age groups were; 8 - 9 year old girls Paige Simmons 8 - 9 year old boys Grayson Eggers 10 - 11 year old girls Emily Hovey 10 - 11 year old boys Dawson Tomlin 12 - 13 year old girls Ashley Wicks 12 - 13 year old boys Effie Gist It was a great day for the young athletes and many of the rounds had to go into a shoot off to determine the winner. I would like to thank the students from Mehlville High TSA club who helped with the competition and those Elks who always help make this a success. Thank you all! Respectfully submitted, Robert Schimmel Esteemed Lecturing Knight Hoop Shoot Director ENF and Mo Benevolent Trust Chair

December Puzzle Solution Recipe of

the Month!

Honored Veteran or Active Duty Person of the Month Jimmy Doolittle from the Internet

In April 1934 Doolittle became a member of the Army Board to study Air Corps organization. A year later he was transferred to the Air Corps Reserve and in 1940 he became president of the Institute of Aeronautical Science. He went back on active duty July 1, 1940 as a major and assistant district supervisor of the Central Air Corps Procurement District at Indianapolis, Indiana, and Detroit, Michigan. He worked with large auto manufacturers on the conversion of their plants for production of planes. The following August he went to England as a member of a special mission and brought back information about other countries' air forces and military buildups.

On Jan 2, 1942 Doolittle was promoted to lieutenant colonel and went to Headquarters Army Air Force to plan the first aerial raid on the Japanese homeland. He volunteered and received Gen. H.H. Arnold's approval to lead the attack of 16 B-25 medium bombers from the aircraft carrier Hornet, with targets in Tokyo, Kobe, Osaka, and Nagoya. This one-way mission on April 18, 1942 gave America's war hopes a terrific lift. Doolittle and others who participated in the mission had to bail out, but fortunately landed in a rice paddy in China near Chu Chow. Some of the other flyers lost their lives on the mission.

President Roosevelt presented Doolittle with the Medal of Honor at the White House, for planning and leading this successful operation. In addition to our nation's top award, Doolittle also received two Distinguished Service Medals, the Silver Star, three Distinguished Flying Crosses, Bronze Star, four Air Medals, and decorations from Great Britain, France, Belgium, Poland, China and Ecuador.
