The holiday season is over and
these are some thoughts that have crossed
my mind as I look back over the last few
weeks. It is a time when most take time
to be thankful for the things that God has
provided for them. Then, we begin to think
about exchanging gifts, office parties and
all of the festivities that accompany these
events. However, for about 25 men this
season was different. There was not any
exchanging of gift between the men, there
was no elaborate and out of control parties,
for these men have had enough of that type
of lifestyle.
Yes, they have given up the old ways
and have surrendered their lives to Christ.
They are a part of a growing number of
men and women who are sick and tiredof being led down the path of death and
destruction by Satan and his coharts. Tired
of making and breaking promises to their
loved ones. Cheating, lying, hustling and
stealing to get the next drink or high that
was a way of life to most of these fellows for
the past few years.
Though most have tried to quit the
abusive habit of alcohol or drugs on their
own with little or no success, they have
come to the conclusion that something orsomeone has led them here (Anchorage
Gospel Rescue Mission) to join this year
long, life changing NewLife in Christ
Recovery Program, and that someone was
GOD.
Now the men have Jesus, The
Holy Spirit and each other to help them
over the hurdles that are on the track of life
everyday.
Of course it is not always a bed of roses! When
get this many people living together under one r
you have personality conflicts and temper flare
However, the Holy Spirit is alive and on the
He keeps the men from going to blows with
another and the setting is just like any other no
family.
I hope that you will remember those thain the Recovery Program. Especially think and
for all who are still
out there and have
not surrendered
their live to a living
and loving Savior,
the same One that
this group of men
have come to know.
Because of
Gods love for them,
these men and I
were continually
thanking the Lord Jesus during Thanksgiving
when Christmas day came we celebrated the gre
gift anyone can receive, and that is the gift of G
Son for the redemption of our sins. Thank
there were no hangovers, blackouts, jail time, f
or hurting our loved ones.
So this New Year these men will be gi
thanks that they have a new spirit, the infilling oHoly Spirit, and that God did not give up on th

Just So You Will KnowOur Solicitation Policy!
The Anchorage Gospel Rescue Mission does not
solicit funds door to door nor by telephone. If someone
contacts you in this way on behalf of the Mission, please
call us at (563-5603) or the proper authorities at once.
We do permit children and church groups to collect
food and clothing door to door, but they must identify
themselves with a badge or letter on Mission stationary.
But never money. We appreciate your support and do
not want your donations getting into the wrong hands.
So, You Are Convinced
That Alcoholism
Is a Disease!
The Problem is Not Alcoholism,
But Alcohol.
If it is a disease, it is a disease without germ or virus.
If it is a disease, it is the only disease that is self inflicted.
If it is a disease, it is the only disease contracted by an act
of the will.
If it is a disease, it is the only disease that is bottled and
sold over the counter for a profit.
If it is a disease, it is the only disease that brings in
tax revenue for the Federal, State, County and City
governments.
If it is a disease, it is the only disease that takes thousandsof outlets in every town and city to spread it.
If it is a disease, it is the only disease that they spend
millions of dollars a year to advertise and spread.
If it is a disease, it is the only disease that provokes crime
and corrupts our courts and law enforcement officials.
If it is a disease, it is the only disease that turns our boys
into criminals and our girls into prostitutes.
If it is a disease, it is the only disease that will cause a
father to go home and take his baby by the heels and beat
its brains out.
If it is a disease, it is the only disease that will take the
clothes from the back, shoes from the feet and bread from
the mouths of a mans family.
If it is a disease, it is the only disease that is bottled
and sold, causing our reform school, jails and mental
institutions to be filled.
If it is a disease, it is the only disease that is given for a
Christmas present.
Society calls alcoholism a disease.
--the word of God calls it sin.

Directors DeskDon BettisWhat ever happened to New Years
Resolutions? It seems like when I was a kid at home all of the
old folks (adults) would make New Years resolutions every
year. Resolving to do or quit doing things that were a detriment
to their life. For instance, I am going on a diet or I am going
to stop smoking and on and on. they would go. However, in
the last few years I have not heard anyone make a New Yearsresolution. I think people stopped making them because they
knew they were not going to keep them.
You know we Christians have stopped making resolutions
too. I can remember when people would openly walk down the
aisle of a church and rededicate their life to the Lord and make
some real heart felt resolutions to serve Him. But you dont see
that much any more either. People are too busy to serve God or
will not give Him any of their precious time that they have set
aside for themselves. Their time is all allocated to something
that they want to do and serving God is not a part of it. Folks,
we need to get our priorities straight and let God have a part of
our time to serve Him.
I remember an old church hymn and I think it would do us
all good to let the words from this hymn speak to our hearts.
Here are the words. Let them speak to you!
I am resolved no longer to linger,Charmed by the worlds delights;
Things that are higher,
Things that are nobler,
These have allured my sight.
I am resolved to go to the Savior,
Leaving my sin and strife,He is the true One; He is the Just One
He hath the words of life.
I am resolved to go to the Savior,
Faithful and true each day,
Heed what He sayeth, do what He willeth;
He is the living way.
I am resolved to enter the kingdom,
Leaving the paths of sin,
Friends may oppose me, foes may beset me;
Still will I enter in.
Refrain:
I will hasten to Him,Hasten so glad and free,
Jesus, Greatest, Highest,
I will come to thee.
His Living PresenceEver striving to be like Him,
Ill do the best I can
To follow in His footsteps,
And serve my fellow man.
Ever striving to be like Him,
Ill comfort those in need
by a daily word of kindness,
or by a loving deed.
Ever striving to be like Him,
Ill love my neighbor more and
Share His living presence with
The man who lives next door.
