EVERYDAY STEWARDSHIP
RECOGNIZE GOD IN YOUR ORDINARY MOMENTS
There are close to 7.6 billion people currently on earth. That is a lot of people!
If you try to estimate how many people have collectively been born since the
beginning of time, a good guess is 108 billion! It is hard to contemplate that
many distinctly different human beings created by our God. In the midst of all
those people, where do you and I fit? Can we really be created to make a
difference in the world? One can feel very small and insignificant when
reflecting on the numbers.
We render ourselves insignificant when we make the mistake of seeing
ourselves as being just like everybody else. However, when looking at the
numbers, how can one honestly think we are all the same? Another way we
become insignificant is believing the lie that one person in the midst of so
many does not have the power to make an impact. However, we all spend time
reading books, watching movies, or listening to news about singular people
who made all the difference in some part of the world. Imagine your own
world without a few key people who have touched you and made a difference.
We are all created with unique gifts. We have those gifts that have been part of
us from birth and those that have been imparted to us by the Holy Spirit. St.
Paul tried to get the Corinthians to understand that reality when he explained
to them the many gifts of the Spirit. Perhaps some of his audience back then
thought they were insignificant. The message then remains the message today:
God is counting on you to use what He has given you. If you don't, who will?

STEWARDSHIP / CORRESPONSABILIDAD
Gratitude in Action: Our Way of Life / Gratitud en Acción: Nuestra forma de Vida
Believe in Him. Can we truly believe without actually
seeing? Thomas the Apostle found he could not; he needed
to see, and was further invited by Jesus to touch so he
might believe.
If we have difficulty believing in Jesus and all He can do
for, and accomplish in, us, would it really make a
difference if we could see Him face to face? Or would we
still doubt? In spite of the miracles Jesus worked while on
this earth, there were those who chose not to believe in
Him or what they witnessed.
Jesus’ Mother, our Mother, told the servers at the wedding
in Cana when there was no more wine, “Do whatever he
tells you.” We know what happened; it was a beautiful
story with an awesome ending!
Is it possible for us to do whatever He tells us? Jesus waits
for us to seek Him in our lives, so first we must ask of
Him before we can listen to hear His voice in return. Then,
is our faith strong enough to do, without hesitation or
question, what He tells us to do? It means hearing the
voice of Someone we cannot see and cannot touch, and
obeying Him, even if what we are being told to do seems
absurd or outrageous. Many of the saints were faced with
this same challenge and they met it valiantly.
Jesus can reveal His glory in us just as He did those who
have walked before us in the Light of His presence. But
are we willing and strong enough to let it happen? It may
not be an incident that makes the front page of the newspaper
or the evening television news, but recalling scripture, Jesus
didn’t always work His miracles with that end result. He
would ask that no one be told what had happened.
How often in our daily life have we struggled and struggled
with an issue, then in utter frustration, perhaps defeat, given it
to God to figure out and handle for us? Isn’t it amazing how
He often deals with our problems and difficulties much
differently than we do! More than likely while we struggle to
resolve matters in our life as best we can, Jesus is standing
next to us saying, “Let Me do it!” Next time, let Him do it!
“The spirit of the Lord acts on us without force or
violence. The subtly of God can be frustrating for those of
us that want to be transformed in an instant. Yet faith
assures us that God is at work in those who believe. As
long as we make time for God, then his work within us will
continue unto the day of Christ Jesus.”1

a cara?
cómo Él a menudo trata nuestros problemas y dificultades

The 2nd Sunday in Ordinary Time / 2º Domingo de Tiempo Ordinario
When you think of being Catholic, what do you think of?
Perhaps you grew up with your only associations being
fasting, nuns with rulers, and "Catholic guilt." Our faith
can sometimes have the connotation of restriction and
absence, not abundance. Who is God in your life? Is He
the divine law-giver, the judge punishing the rule-
breakers? These are certainly attributes of God. But the
laws don't exist for themselves alone. They exist to help us
love one another as God loves us. And this loving God is
the author of abundance and joy.
Did you hear today's Gospel? "There was a wedding at
Cana in Galilee." Here at this wedding, Jesus would
perform "the beginning of his signs...and so reveal his
glory." This first sign isn't a miraculous healing. He didn't
raise someone from the dead. He kept a party going!
"There were six stone water jars there for Jewish
ceremonial washings, each holding twenty to thirty
gallons...the water...had become wine." The wine has run
out. Jesus creates somewhere between 120 and 180
gallons to help his friend save face. We may not have such
momentous miracles in our lives, but God is watching out
for us. The string of green lights when you're running late.
The sale on the replacement appliance you need. The
friend who calls at just the right time. These are the little
moments of God's abundance. We just need to look for
them!
Not only does Jesus surprise, but the guests point out to
their host: "You have kept the good wine until now." The
divine wine is better than the earthly variety. God's
goodness is better than what we can grasp at for ourselves.
Isn't that how it always goes?
Cristo no

Would you like to help your Church, but have very
little free time? Join us to count the weekly collections.
We meet at 7:45 am on Monday mornings in the
Scanlan Building. Counting the collection is a group
effort of 5 or more people and most Mondays we are
finished in about 2 hours.
We have teams established so that most volunteers
have only a once-a-month commitment. Currently, we
have a need for more volunteers on the 1st, 2nd & 3rd
Mondays of each month.
If you are good at counting money or have a
background in banking or retail, you are a perfect fit
for counting – but experience is NOT necessary.

Todos fuimos creados con dones únicos. Tenemos
Santo.
