USS KIDD  Helpful Information for Overnight Campers

• Packing Light is Packing Right. You really only need a sleeping bag & pillow, flashlight,

camera, and toiletries. There are no closets for your use; everything must be stored under or adjacent to your bunk.

• Ladders onboard a WWII destroyer are at a 70° angle. That is STEEP! The less gear you have to lug up and down multiple 70° ladders, the better.

• Snacks and drinks are allowed only on the main deck. NO food or drinks are allowed below decks in the sleeping quarters. That means the NOTHING edible should be packed in your personal gear except medicine. Keep all food and drinks in one or two large containers (provided by the troop) on the main deck. No glass containers allowed.

• Shower facilities are available. You must provide your own soap, towels, and washcloths. • Separate accommodations for females are available, if desired; please make arrangements

with the troop in advance. • No alcoholic beverages are allowed onboard the ship. • Do not bring personal electronics requiring electricity onboard the ship. This includes MP3

players, radios, hair dryers, curling irons, etc. The ship’s electrical systems were not designed for modern appliances.

• Sunday breakfast is included in the cost of the tour, and consists of a McDonald’s Sausage Biscuit and milk. For an extra $3 campers can get a “big breakfast” which adds scrambled eggs and hash browns. The museum staff will have coffee available for adults.

• A USS Kidd Overnight Camping patch is available for $3, and Dog Tags are available for $6.50. Personalized dog tags can be ordered in advance and will be ready when we get there.
