In May 2012, Janji launched with a promise: to use the power of running to create a healthier and happier world.

Janji isnt just another running apparel company. Mike and Dave started Janji to help the nearly 2 billion people who are suffering from malnutrition and lacking clean water. Most runners can turn on the faucet when theyre thirsty and open the fridge when theyre hungry. Now, runners have the opportunity to help those who need it most through the sport they love.

Many families walk hours just to find the nearest water source, taking them into dangerous places and away from other priorities such as work and school. The water they fetch is too often dirty, leading to lethal consequences: every 20 seconds a child dies from a preventable water-related illness.

As is the case in many developing countries around the world, Peruvians suffer from an inconsistent supply of adequate nutrition. Despite recent economic growth within the country, 30% of Peruvian children still suffer from chronic malnutrition, with the number being even higher in rural areas of the Southern Andes. This puts children at a disadvantage leaving them developmentally stunted, both mentally and physically. Each purchase from the Peru line provides relief to the children of Peru who need it most.

Stitched back together after the 1993 genocide, Rwandas economy is flourishing while its civil society rebuilds. But even today, nearly half of children in Rwanda remain chronically malnourished, a condition that can result in reduced brainpower, stunted physical and emotional development, and even death.

By partnering with the organization mana (Mother Administered Nutritive Aid), which produces nutritional medicine to treat childhood malnutrition, we can give Rwandan children the nourishment they need.

Bangladesh

Provide 2 seasons worth of seeds to a family in Bangladesh.

Bangladesh is one of the most densely populated, yet also one of the poorest countries in the world. Though nearly half of Bangladeshis work in agriculture, farms are often unproductive because families lack the funds to restore livestock and buy seeds for the next years harvest.

Janji is partnering with Helen Keller International to improve farm yield and increase the number of micronutrient-rich crops. By creating sustainable ways to increase farm yield, we can give Bangladeshi families the food and nutrition they need.

In Tanzania, many women and children spend 2 hours each day collecting water. In rural areas, some spend as many as 7 hours. This often leads to a disruption in family life, the inability for children to attend school, and because the collected water is often unsafe, an increased risk of disease and death.

Partnering with msabi (Safe Water for Better Health in Swahili), Janji wants to make drinking water safer and more accessible for Tanzanians. By building sustainable and durable water wells, we can give the people of Tanzania the clean water they deserve.

The Janji Story

On the way to the 2010 Division iii Outdoor Track and Field Championships, Mike and Dave had an idea: what if they could connect runners around the country to solve one of the worlds most serious problems? By the time they came home from the track meet, Janji was born.

Mike and Dave knew runners like themselves were charitable. But they saw that philanthropic running only beginsand unfortunately endson race day. They want Janji to change that. Through Janjis high performance and distinct looking running apparel, runners can fund solutions and raise awareness for the global food and water crisis in a meaningful and lasting way. Now, rather than racing just one day for a cause, runners can give back through everyday training.

Janjis goal is to create a community dedicated to running for another. That was Mike and Daves goal on that bus, and thats what Janji will always be about.
