Is water for human Is water for human useuse or for or for respectrespect??
• Rivers are a water reservoir over the earth surface.
• The water in the river is not stable but it flows usually from mountains, lakes or other sources to a sea.
• In streams and rivers we can find a lot of different species of plants, algae and animals.
• The aim of our project is to find out if people and animals living near the rivers have any influence on the river water contents and quality.
• We would like to examine composition of water and animals that live in the rivers and want to compare the results from rivers to Lake Erken.
Map of chosen sites
If the water flows from lake to the sea through rivers located in areas where people and animals live and where infrastructure is developed, then the abiotic factors (temperature, pH and total phosphorus) in river water are higher than the water in the Lake Erken.
To examine how big influence our way of living has on the environment in streams.
As the surrounding areas have a big effect on water quality in streams, the ASPT-index will decrease at each site, travelling from the outlet of Lake Erken towards the Baltic Sea.
To check difference between the quality in lake water system (source) and rivers which flow from the lake.
Due to the fact that water in pools is almost still the ASPT index and water quality will be lower than it is in flowing water – riffles.
To check if pools can somehow keep good quality

Diagram 1. ASPT values in rivers
The ASPT – values are rather higher in riffles than in pools. The highest ASPT value was noticed in site 2 and it was 7,5. The lowest noticed value was 2,5 in site 3.

Diagram 3. Total phosphorus results in rivers
The pH values varied from 8,4 to 9,2. The highest values were measured in the fifth site where the measurement was 9,2. The lowest value (8,4) was noticed in site two (pool). The average pH value was 8,7.
The lowest value of total phosphorus was noticed in site 1 and it was 23-24. The highest results were noticed in site 4 (56) and site 2 (64).

Diagram 4. Compare of parameters between Lake Erken and streams
• The most common surrounding to investigated rivers was car roads or highways; in addition in neighbourhood of a few of them we found beach, farm and household.
• Water was alkaline. pH value was same in Lake Erken and average value from rivers.
• Temperature was getting higher every day.
• Streams were more nutrient rich than Lake Erken

• Water quality in rivers are lover than in Lake Erken.
• In some rivers water quality is higher than in Lake Erken.
• One reason for this is that river faster changes its water.

• Average ASPT value in pools was higher than in riffles.
• Water in pools is not exchanged so often as it is in riffles
• This project should be continued and more factors should be examined to see what makes big difference between riffles and pools.
