Last Friday we held our Swimming Carnival and many of you would have noticed that the timing of this carnival is a change from having it at the end of the year. Moving the carnival to the start of the school year brings us into alignment with Chinchilla & District. By all accounts the day was a great success with Leichhardt taking out the overall points on the day. It was wonderful to hear that some students dressed up for the occasion as this gave the day a great atmosphere. A special thanks must go Mr Scott Cosgrove for his efforts on organising the swimming carnival and running a smooth program which even allowed for a parents vs teachers race! I would also like to thank our 2019 Sport House Captains for their efforts on the day as well in supporting our swimming carnival. Next week will be the final week for Term 1 swimming lessons. There will be a make up lesson Friday (8th March 2019) only for the Friday swimming group. This will be for Prep, Year 1 and Year 7/8 classes only. Today we had 11 of our students nominated to attend the Chinchilla District Swimming Trials. I would like to wish students the best of luck in their events. Rachelle Turley and I attended further training last Friday regarding NAPLAN Online. As all schools will be transitioning to NAPLAN Online in 2020, we made the decision to start NAPLAN Online this year to make our transition as smooth as possible. Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 will complete all components of NAPLAN (Reading, Writing, Language Conventions and Numeracy) online with the exception of Year 3 who complete the writing task with pencil and paper. I encourage all families to visit the Naplan Public Demonstration Site http://www.nap.edu.au/online-assessment/public-demonstration-site. On Monday some of our teaching staff completed a final day of work with Dr Lyn Sharratt at Highfields,
Toowoomba. Even though the face to face delivery is now completed, we will continue this work in our classrooms. One key component includes pulling apart the literacy demands across all curriculum areas and deconstructing the units of work into lesson intent and success criteria’s. Meaning the ‘What needs to be covered’, ‘Why we are doing this’ and ‘How you will be able to succeed’. This body of work will continue to part of our school’s focus in 2019. Often our teachers send home notes and other information to ensure that all parents are kept up to date with what is happening in your child’s classroom. From the school notes through to our electronic newsletter and or for those classes trialling Class Do Jo we strive to ensure that the sharing of information is seamless. Next Monday 25th February, our student leaders will have their badges presented to them during our school parade. Invitations have been sent home to parents of 2019 school leaders and we look forward to having our school community present for these presentations. There will be a celebration morning tea after Parade and we invite parents and friends of school leaders to join us in the Home Ec after the investiture ceremony. Next week, I will be attending the Principal’s Conference being held at the Brisbane Cultural Centre. The Principal's Conference is a biennial event, traditionally held in late February or early March, that brings together more than 1,400 Queensland state school principals and senior state education leaders to discuss and plan the future of state schooling in Queensland. In my absence, Mr Dave Doogan will be the Acting Principal. Reminder: School Photos are next Tuesday (26th February). Students are to wear full school uniform which is, maroon & gold T-shirt, maroon bottoms and black shoes where possible.
Regards
Scott BACH/Principal

Dear Parents and Carers,
Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) Better Behaviour = Better Learning
Focus of the week: ‘Report problems or concerns to a member of staff immediately’.
This week we have been encouraging students to, ‘be part of a group that works together to make our
school a happy and safe place for everyone’. Because it’s the super power of the group, students,
teachers, parents and community that help reinforce our expectations and create a safe and supportive
environment for all.
To support this we need students to report all issues to satff. Reporting is not dobbing. It supports our
goal of keeping everyone safe and happy. Students have been asked to report the following,
• Report maintenance issues. If Somethings broken – Report it.
• Use ‘Stop Walk Talk’ if someone is disrespectful.
Stay safe, be respectful towards one another, take responsibility for your actions and
keep learning.
Warm regards
David Doogan
