Moving the carnival to the start of the school year brings us into alignment with Chinchilla & District. By all accounts the day was a great success with Leichhardt taking out the overall points on the day. It was wonderful to hear that some students dressed up for the occasion as this gave the day a great atmosphere. A special thanks must go Mr Sco Cosgrove for his efforts on organising the swimming carnival and running a smooth program which even allowed for a parents vs teachers race! I would also like to thank our 2019 Sport House Captains for their efforts on the day as well in supporng our swimming carnival. Next week will be the final week for Term 1 swimming lessons. There will be a make up lesson Friday (8th March 2019) only for the Friday swimming group. This will be for Prep, Year 1 and Year 7/8 classes only. Today we had 11 of our students nominated to aend the Chinchilla District Swimming Trials. I would like to wish students the best of luck in their events. Rachelle Turley and I aended further training last Friday regarding NAPLAN Online. As all schools will be transioning to NAPLAN Online in 2020, we made the decision to start NAPLAN Online this year to make our transion as smooth as possible. Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 will complete all components of NAPLAN (Reading, Wring, Language Convenons and Numeracy) online with the excepon of Year 3 who complete the wring task with pencil and paper. I encourage all families to visit the Naplan Public Demonstraon Site hp:// www.nap.edu.au/online-assessment/public- demonstraon-site. On Monday some of our teaching staff completed a final day of work with Dr Lyn Sharra at Highfields, Toowoomba. Even though the face to face delivery is now completed, we will connue this work in our classrooms. One key component includes pulling apart the literacy demands across all curriculum areas and deconstrucng the units of work into lesson intent and success criterias. Meaning the What needs to be covered’, ‘Why we are doing thisand How you will be able to succeed’. This body of work will connue to part of our schools focus in 2019. Dear Parents and Carers,

Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) Better Behaviour = Better Learning

Focus of the week: ‘Report problems or concerns to a member of staff immediately’.

This week we have been encouraging students to, ‘be part of a group that works together to make our

school a happy and safe place for everyone’. Because it’s the super power of the group, students,

teachers, parents and community that help reinforce our expectations and create a safe and supportive

environment for all.

To support this we need students to report all issues to satff. Reporting is not dobbing. It supports our

goal of keeping everyone safe and happy. Students have been asked to report the following,

• Report maintenance issues. If Somethings broken – Report it.

• Use ‘Stop Walk Talk’ if someone is disrespectful.

Stay safe, be respectful towards one another, take responsibility for your actions and

keep learning.

Warm regards

David Doogan
