  • Reflections Jan Terrier Terry Austin was born August 2, 1960, the first daughter and third child for John and Martha Austin. From early on, Jan always exhibited a strong tenacity for life and commitment to excellence. This is evident in the extensive resume she created throughout her professional

    and personal life. Jan graduated from Colerain High School in 1977, a year earlier than her antici- pated graduation date. Shortly after this, she enlisted in the United States Air Force. At the time of her honorable discharge in 1984, she ranked as a Sergeant and received numerous awards and accolades including the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, Air Force Longevity Service Award, and the Air Force Overseas Long Tour Ribbon.

    Once discharged, Jan returned to Cincinnati, where her next venture would begin. Upon joining the workforce, Jan received her real estate license in April 1986 and began to work at the post office in 1987. One of the key values that Jan held true throughout her life and that she worked to instill in those around her was the importance of education. Jan received her Bachelors Degree in Human Resources in 1993 and her MBA in 1995 from Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio. She was an excellent student and graduated cum laude with both degrees.

    In 1989, Jan met and married Frederick Donaldson and of that union, their two daughters were born. Erin Tyanna Donaldson in 1989 and Moriah Terin Donaldson in 1992. Her love for her children was evident in everything that she did from the time they were born. Jan, from an early age, knew that her lifes purpose involved helping others. She was an adamant believer in civil rights and worked tirelessly to ensure that the work of those who came before her would not be in vain as she fought against instances of discrimination within the work force. With her degrees in place and her commitment to excellence, Jan embarked on the next stage of her journey which truly began her extensive professional career with the United States Government.

  • From 1995-1998, Jan worked at the Department of Veterans Affairs as a Senior Equal Employment Opportunity Specialist in St. Louis, Missouri. In 1998, Jan, with her two daughters, moved to Little Rock, Arkansas where she worked as a Senior Compliance Officer for the Department of Veterans Affairs, Office of Resolution Management (ORM) until 2002. Jan was again promoted in 2002 and moved with her daughters to Maryland to work as the Director of Equal Employment Opportunity in the Employment and Training Administration (ETA) office for the Department of Labor in Washington, D.C. Jan would hold this position until her retirement in 2014.

    Retirement did not slow Jan down even a little. In 2014, she began working on her next adventure which included completing lifelong dreams she had not had time to do during her active working years. The first, and greatest accomplishment, was the completion of her first novel, The Marriage Bed is Undefiled, a work of Christian fiction that was published in 2014 and added the title of author to her already incredible resume. Her next vision was to see her book turned into a movie and she had begun taking screenwriting classes in order to do so.

    A big believer in the support of others dreams and in assisting the next generation, her next projects involved her children, god children, and nieces and nephews in encouraging their dreams and offering assistance to see them come to fruition.

    Jan was called home to join her Heavenly Father on Monday May 18, 2015. While the impact of her loss is felt by many, her family takes solace in knowing that her faith and relationship with the Lord was strong and the most important aspect of her life. She was preceded in death by her parents, John Thomas Austin and Martha Louise Austin. She is survived by her daughter Erin Donaldson-Aloulou, son-in-law Hichem Aloulou, daughter Moriah Donaldson, her grandson, Jeremiah Gibson, and her brothers, James Hayes, Tyrone Austin, John Thomas Austin, and Jerald Austin.

  • When Tomorrow Starts Without MeWhen tomorrow starts without me

    and Im not there to see; If the sun should rise and find your

    eyes all filled with tears for me.I wish so much you wouldnt cry

    the way you did today; While thinking of the many things

    we didnt get to say.I know how much you love me,

    as much as I love you; And each time that you think of me, I know youll miss me too.But when tomorrow starts without me please try to understand,

    That an angel came and called my name and took me by the hand.She said my place was ready in heaven far above;

    And that Id have to leave behind, all those I dearly love.But as I turned to walk away, a tear fell from my eye;

    For all my life, Id always thought I didnt want to die.I had so much to live for, so much yet to do;

    It seemed almost impossible, that I was leaving you.I thought of all the yesterdays, the good ones and the bad; I thought of all the love we shared, and all the fun we had.

    If I could relive yesterday just even for awhile, Id say goodbye and kiss you and maybe see you smile.

    But then I fully realized that this could never be; For emptiness and memories would take the place of me.

    And when I thought of worldly things I might miss come tomorrow; I thought of you, and when I did, my heart was filled with sorrow.But when I walked through heavens gates I felt so much at home;

    When God looked down and smiled at me from His great golden throne.He said, This is eternity and all Ive promised you;

    Today your life on earth is past, but here it all starts anew.I promise no tomorrow, but today will always last;

    And since each days the same day, theres no longing for the past.But you have been so faithful, so trusting and so true;

    Though at times you did do things, you knew you shouldnt do.But you have been forgiven and now at last youre free; So wont you take my hand and share my life with me?

    So when tomorrow starts without me, dont think were far apart For every time you think of me, Im right here in your heart.

  • A Letter to MomMom, There are no words that can express how grateful, how blessed, and how loved I feel from having you in my life. Even now, I can hear your voice in my head guiding me in all that I do. Your strength and love, compassion and devotion, not just to me and Moriah, but to all those that you came into contact with, has been a shining example for me. The woman I am today is because of you.

    I will miss talking to you every day. I will miss joking with you and growing with you. I will miss calling you for advice for everything, big and small, and you listening and offering with no judgement. Only love. I will miss hearing your voice. I will miss making you laugh. I will miss your good morning texts and phone calls to make sure I made it home safely. I will miss our songs. I will miss you. Always.

    My heart is heavy now. And while I will miss you Ma, I will also remember. I will remember to listen to that voice in my head that sounds like you. I will remember to pay attention when the Lord is trying to direct my path because I know you will be there trying to guide me to. I will remember your words, lessons and expectations. I will remember that while you are not here with me physically anymore, you will stay in my heart forever. You have been there from the beginning and you always will be. I will remember your strength, your brilliance, your compassion, and your love and I will take that and become the best woman that I can be. If I can gain even half of all that you are, I will count that as a success. I will remember you. I will miss you I will make you proud and I will love you. Forever.

    I love you to the moon and back man.

    I cant say goodbye so Ill just say see you later.

    Your daughter,

    Erin ~ 7 ~
