FOREWORD

Welcome to the fourth year book from Jamieson Smith Associates giving a glimpse into some of our creative refurbishments and developments over the past twelve months.

Over the last few months, retailers have faced challenging economic times but we have found ourselves increasingly in demand as brands look at ways to draw in more customers. We have continued to design and build high quality interiors for various major retail brands across the UK, Channel Islands and Ireland, working with many loyal clients and several new ones.

We have worked hard to provide attractive, customer friendly environments, incorporating new materials, trends and ideas. As ever, quality and attention to every detail is of the utmost importance, backed up by creativity and commitment from our dedicated team.

Oliver Sweeney

Following the successful design coordination and interior fit out of Long Tall Sally, owners, Amery Capital awarded Jamieson Smith Associates the contract to shop fit their Oliver Sweeney shoe stores, starting with Covent Garden, London.

A quick four week turnaround was required for the high specification fit out which used solid oak flooring, wall panelling and a Vitsoe shelving system with under shelf illumination. Clean lines show off the footwear, clothing and accessories to their optimum.

The shop fit is complemented with grey and lime green coloured central tables for key product ranges, highlighted by contemporary black pendant light fittings. LED lighting is used extensively throughout.

“We had a really positive start to trading after the shop fit, the shop looked great and has been very well received by all internally and our shoppers who love the new look.

The shop fit has been very exciting for us, so thanks very much for a job well done.”

Ken Tatham - General Retail Manager

Peter Jones

Peter Jones China commissioned Jamieson Smith Associates to design and build their exciting new premises at Trinity Walk Shopping Centre, Wakefield. A very quick turnaround enabled the 2045 sq ft store to open early December in time for the Christmas trade.

The store provides a stunning new image for the company, with a fresh contemporary feel enhanced by splashes of colour from graphics. Existing corporate colours have been given a modern twist with the addition of a more feminine motif and touches of dark walnut on the fixtures and perimeter units complete the stylish look.

“Jamieson Smith Associates has produced a very attractive, modern and commercial design incorporating new and original ideas. The team handled all aspects of the complete store fit out and the project went as smoothly as any shop fitting task we have undertaken. The store was completed to a tight timescale - eight weeks from initial meeting to store handover - and to budget.

All the Jamieson Smith Associates team, from design to project management through to shop fitting, were a pleasure to work with and we found them to be professional, personable and competent.”

Andrew Cousins, Managing Director

Jane Shilton - Rollout

Jamieson Smith Associates was appointed by Jane Shilton to design, build and deliver a new concept for their in-store concessions. A strong design was drawn up, incorporating a rich raspberry red colour with dark timber, oak flooring and white gloss finishes. Products are displayed on glass shelving providing a sleek, contemporary look.

The concept has now been installed by Jamieson Smith Associates into five other in-store concessions and is due to be rolled out into further stores throughout the country.

“We were delighted with this new concept, it has added both colour and life to our space – we feel it presents our products in a more aspirational manner and has given our shoe department a more contemporary feel, while still providing a customer friendly environment” .

Andrew Shilton – Sales Director

Circus, Guernsey

Jamieson Smith Associates has been commissioned to design and print a sales brochure to market a new young fashion store, giving potential fashion houses a taste of how the 10,000 sq ft store will look.

Vibrant, trend-setting themes have been used throughout the building with the Victorian façade flooded with illumination, each column highlighted to attract attention. Eye-catching raised window displays announce the brands within.

Inside Circus, mannequins on podiums lead the customer from one fashion house to the next and on each floor themed banks of fitting rooms are placed adjacent to theatrical service desks.

“Our brief to Jamieson Smith Associates was to create a marketing brochure for a new store concept to attract new and existing young fashion concessions. They helped in establishing the store layout, branding and overall theme. We were delighted with the efforts that the team went to deliver the project.”

Jonathan Creasey, Director

Browns, York

Browns of York commissioned Jamieson Smith Associates to re-structure their Ladies young fashion department. Emphasis was placed on navigating the area with ease, and improving the customer shopping experience.

Full height feature walls were introduced mid-floor to create a backdrop for each concession. This provided branding opportunities, bringing greater organisation to the department. Our designers took inspiration from existing stainless steel and glass fixtures, adding frosted acrylic, mirrors, strong patterned wallpaper and compelling colours throughout.

“Yet again Jamieson Smith Associates has achieved a fantastic result which the customers love, helping us increase trade across the department. The design team were inspirational with their ideas and we will certainly be working with the company again.”

Nick Brown, Director

Long Tall Sally, London - Flagship

After the success of their Bath store, Long Tall Sally asked Jamieson Smith Associates to design and re fit their London store in Chiltern Street. The brief was to maximise the space on the basement floor, previously used for storage, to enable extra retail space including a new shoe lounge.

Several walls were knocked through to transform a challenging space into a fresh, light retail area with floor standing, oversized mirrors opening up the space. A similar colour palette to Long Tall Sally’s Bath store, with off-whites and light oak accented with lilac and purple features, endorses the brand.

“We first worked with Jamieson Smith Associates during renovations of our Bath store where we were impressed with their attention to detail and ability to modernise within the character of the building – an important aspect for the traditional and historic location in Chiltern Street, London.

The project was completed in line with the original agreed timeline; we have had great feedback from our customers – the performance of the store is improving all the time and we are now on target to achieve the payback we had hoped for in the planned timescale.

We wouldn’t hesitate to work with Jamieson Smith Associates again.”

Alison Lippiatt - Group Merchandising Director

Barkers, Cosmetics

Our challenge here was to double the size of the cosmetics hall and create an area of understated elegance and quality.

An additional entrance was created into the store, two departments relocated and a dividing wall demolished to create nearly 4,300 sq ft of retail space.

Contrasting finishes were chosen and a palette of mirror, illuminated acrylic shards, gold glazed columns and white high polished units were installed.

The clean bright look was offset against a surrounding backdrop of pink gloss and acrylic display units for fragrance, jewellery and toiletries, with a nail and eyebrow bar pulling together the luxury shopping experience.

“The new Beauty Hall was a big project for us. We wanted something outstanding to really wow our customers and bring in lots of new ones, which is why we chose Jamieson Smith Associates. They have a particularly talented design team who listened to us and gave us a unique and stunning environment that is pulling in many new customers and is a flagship for the store.”

Charles Barker, Director

OSPREY LONDON

Jamieson Smith Associates has been working with OSPREY LONDON for four years on a rollout of its store concept.

The latest store is at Cheshire Oaks which follows on from the success of OSPREY LONDON’S outlet enterprise. The scheme follows Jamieson Smith Associates classic OSPREY LONDON concept of providing a premium retail experience for the luxury leather brand. A quintessential English formal style with an individual twist is incorporated, delivering the essence of superior style.

“Throughout the rollout of our store concept, we have continued to appreciate the way the team interprets and supports our vision for the development of our retail business. At Cheshire Oaks (pictured), we are particularly pleased with the look and layout of the store, which is not only beautiful but which customers find easy to navigate.”

Graeme Ellisdon, Managing Director

M&Co, Largs - Flagship

Jamieson Smith Associates relationship with M&Co has continued with the design and build of a new flagship store in Largs.

Blocks of colour have been introduced to distinguish and provide definition to departments with coloured back panels and additional graphics showcasing specific areas. A frieze adds warmth to the scheme and unifies the stores.

At Largs, raised window beds continue into the store giving fun and vibrant walkways with mannequins being the focal point of the entrances. A curved ceiling and flooring leads customers effortlessly around the store and luxurious fitting rooms with vibrant turquoise curtains add to the key defining features.

“Over the past few years Jamieson Smith Associates has worked on a number of shop fits for us. Largs was however possibly one of the most challenging projects as we were looking to totally re-invent the M&Co in-store shopping experience for our customers.

Jamieson Smith Associates ideas and insights into design have benefitted us since completion, and aspects of this unique environment have been taken and re-interpreted in stores across the country.”

Andrew Stenson, Shopfitting Manager

SADDLERY CAFÉ

New to the courtyard at OSPREY HOME, is Graeme Ellisdon’s individually inspired scheme for the Saddlery Café.

A rustic theme was chosen for the barn and courtyard, based on everyone’s favourite cafés in rural France with exposed brickwork, timber ceiling and cladding on the exterior.

The Saddlery Café provides a fantastic place to meet for a coffee break or light lunch. With its locally-baked quiches and breads, the café has a wonderful relaxed ambient atmosphere and is fast becoming a favourite place for locals and shoppers.

“OSPREY HOME is at the heart of what we do, and food is at the heart of every home”.
