He provides technical assistance and training in the areas of assessment, development, and implementation of behavioral health programs, with a special focus on recovery oriented services for persons with serious mental illnesses and services for persons who are homeless. Mr. Winarski is an instructor for three core courses in the undergraduate Behavioral Healthcare Major: Recovery Oriented Mental Health Services (MHS-4023), Behavioral Health Systems Delivery (MHS-4002), and Professional Seminar (HHS-4931). Mr. Winarski serves on the faculty for the USF Criminal Justice Mental Health and Substance Abuse Technical Assistance Center. Mr. Winarski has been working in coordination with state and local authorities to transform Florida’s mental health system to a recovery/resiliency orientation. James Winarski, M.S.W. joined the faculty in the Department of Mental Health Law & Policy at the University of South Florida in February 2004. Mr. Winarski has specialized knowledge and skills in the areas of program development/systems improvement, rehabilitation/recovery technologies, outreach, case management, homelessness, co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders, and in developing intervention strategies for difficult to reach populations. Developed innovative strategies to assist programs serving homeless individuals with mental illnesses throughout the United States. Developed curricula and provided on-site technical assistance.
