2019 Classes Tomorrow, all students will officially be settling into their new classes for 2019. We welcome to the school Mrs Jacinta Milligan who will be teaching Year 5/6 (Cooinda). Mrs Milligan brings to the school a wealth of enthusiasm, high levels of professionalism and is a motivated and dedicated educator; we are very lucky to have her working here at Jamberoo Public School. The class structures for 2019 are as follows: Birahlee (Kindergarten & Year One) – Mrs Kunkler Walabi (Kindergarten & Year One) – Mrs McCormack Tangalla (Year 1 & Year 2) – Mrs Martin Nuninoona (Year 2 & Year 3) – Mrs Behl-Shanks Wonga Wonga (Year 4 & Year 5) – Mr Ross Cooinda (Year 5 & Year 6) – Mrs Miligan Mrs Larsen will teach RFF and Library this year. Learning Support will be provided for our students by Miss McLeish and Mr Speirs. Mrs Pappas will be working on Nuninoona each Thursday and Wonga Wonga each Friday. Students who receive individualised funding will be supported by our School Learning Support Officers, which this year include: Mrs Dowling Mrs McGee Mrs Wrigley Mrs Ruming In 2019, Mrs De Las Heras will continue in her role as office manager, Mr Rod will be maintaining our beautiful school grounds and Mrs Medlin will complete administrative tasks in the library and the office.

Outside School Hours Care (OSHC) Thank you to the parents who last year completed the OSHC Survey. I recently received correspondence from the Department that the number of families who submitted responses wasn’t enough to justify having a third party run a before and after school service at Jamberoo Public School. Unfortunately, at this stage we do not have enough student numbers to warrant having a full-time care provider at the school. Thanks again to the families who took the time to complete the survey.

Community Volunteers Jamberoo Public School receives minimal funding from the government, because the needs of our students are viewed as less complex than those of students from other schools. To support our students it would be a huge positive to have volunteers working in classrooms to compensate for the school’s lack of funding. We would love to have community members volunteer their time to support our students with their learning. If you are, or know someone who is retired, has an educational background, has time to volunteer and is passionate about working with children please give the school a call because we would love to hear from you. The only requirements the school has are a Working with Children Check clearance and a passion for children and supporting their learning.

School Projects Over the holidays new security fencing was installed around the school. The gate near the staff room and the gate on the south side of the library will be opened each morning when students arrive. They will be closed once students are settled in classrooms each morning. The gates will remain closed during the day but will be unlocked, so parents/volunteers can enter the school. We encourage any visitors to use the gate near the staff room when entering and leaving the premises during school hours. Please ensure that the gate is closed when you enter/exit. This will ensure the highest level of safety for our students. The storage shed, located near our veggie gardens, has been repaired. We are just waiting on a new door and for the area at the front of the shed to have fresh concrete laid before it will re-open. Other projects to be undertaken in the very near future include: * The outdoor classroom being erected. * Painting of the interior of the library. * Front patio of the office block to be beautified. *  Installation of new screens/smart boards in all classrooms and the library.

Kindergarten Parent Morning Tea A reminder to our new Kindy parents that the P&C will be hosting a post drop off coffee at Crust and Crumb from 9:30am this Friday 1st February. We'd love to see you there!

Kiss and Drop Zone It’s official, we now have a second kiss and drop zone at the front of the school (just outside the front office). The area was previously a ‘no stopping zone’, it is now changed to a ‘no parking zone’. This zone will further increase student safety by allowing parents to drop their children off each morning. Parents will have two minutes to drop off their children in a space which is located directly at the front gate. This will provide students with a much safer option each day.

Leaving School Early It is vital that the educational needs of each and every student are met. One of those needs is regular attendance at school, this includes remaining at school for the entire school day. Special school events, such as Presentation Day, Grandparents Day etc are not a reason for a child to leave early. Partial absences do need to be justified either as sick or approved leave eg dental appointment. Any absences that are not due to sickness or approved leave by the principal are considered to be unjustified. I seek your assistance to ensure your child does not have unjustified partial absences during the course of the year. An example of this is the upcoming swimming carnival. The carnival is a half day event so unless your child is sick or has some type of appointment after the event then they should be returning to school and completing lessons as per normal. This is to be the norm with all activities now and in the future. I appreciate the support of all families in preventing unnecessary absences at Jamberoo Public School.

Assembly There will be no assembly tomorrow. The first whole school assembly for the year will be Friday 22nd February (Week 4) kicking off at 12:45pm.

Parent Information Evening On Tuesday 12th February the school will be conducting an information evening for all parents/guardians. The sessions are vital in providing essential information regarding the organisation of classrooms and the routines in place. We look forward to seeing you all in attendance. The program for the evening will be as follows:

Care Monkey Thank you to all the parents/guardians who have completed a profile for their child on Care Monkey. All permission notes will now be sent home via Care Monkey. If you haven’t yet signed up your child, please do so ASAP. The program provides the school with all your child’s medical details which can be accessed at the click of a button on a phone or a device. For more information about the program please don’t hesitate to contact the school.

Class Dojo In 2019, all classes will be utilising the application, Class Dojo as the communication tool. Feedback from parents last year was very positive about the program. Class Dojo allows the teacher to provide families with the latest information regarding school events, classroom activities, excursions and personal details about your child’s behaviour and academic achievement. Any whole school activities and events will also be posted through Class Dojo. You will receive instant notifications through your phone and/or device which will ensure you a receiving up to date information. When your child brings their parent/guardian code home please take the time to activate your account. For further information regarding Class Dojo please click on the link below: https://www.classdojo.com/en-gb/about/?redirect=true

Kindergarten Students I would like to officially welcome the new Kindergarten students and their families to Jamberoo PS. It will be fantastic to see the smiling and innocent faces arriving at school for their first big day tomorrow. We look forward to teaching and working with the Kindergarten students now and in the future and I’m certain they will enjoy their time at Jamberoo PS.

New Enrolments I would also like to take this opportunity to welcome our new enrolments for 2019. We are very happy to have the following students join the Jamberoo PS community of learners: Samara Kristen (Birrahlee) Brody Kristen (Tangalla) Matilda Kristen (Wonga Wonga)

Mental Health Each week I will be including in the newsletters related to mental health. The reason for this is that the school feels it is important to provide young people and their families with basic knowledge to understand mental health problems. This is vital, as the prognosis for mental illness is improved through early detection and intervention.

Library News 2019 A big warm welcome back to school for all our students, families and community members. This year I am pleased to be taking over the running of our school library. You may have already noticed some changes that have taken place. My vision is for our library to be an inclusive, inviting and calm space where students can access the world, a wealth of knowledge and new experiences by exploring literature and digital technologies. All classes will be allocated 2 hours per week in with me in the library. 30 mins will be dedicated to browsing, borrowing and literacy with 90 mins given to inquiry-based learning, focusing on History in Semester 1 and Geography in Semester 2. The Premiers Reading Challenge will begin in March and I look forward to sharing the Children’s Book Council Awards and Book Week celebrations with the students. Being new to this role I appreciate your patience and support while I learn the systems and procedures required to keep things running smoothly. I am also very much in need of parent helpers, so if you are interested in volunteering some time Monday to Wednesday, please get in touch. I look forward to another great year at Jamberoo Public School. Mrs Larsen
