Grandparents Day Wow! I was blown away by the number of grandparents, families and community members we had in the school last Friday. I’m certain Grandparents Day 2019 at Jamberoo Public School was a very memorable one for everyone involved. It was fantastic to see how excited the students were anticipating the arrival of their grandparents, showing off their maths skills in classrooms, singing at the whole school assembly and eating a sausage sandwich with their families. The day was so successful because of the amazing work conducted by the staff, volunteers and parents. Thank you to everyone who gave up their time and who put so much effort into ensuring that Grandparents Day was a successful day enjoyed by all.

Staff Car Park It has come to my attention that a small minority of the community is entering the school in the morning using the staff car park entry. I implore all families to please not use this area before school as teachers use this space to enter the school grounds and park their cars. There is very clear signage that indicates that there is ‘NO ACCESS’ in and around the staff car park. Student safety is our highest priority at Jamberoo Public School, it is vital that we work collaboratively to ensure there are zero incidents that risk the safety of our kids. Please use the gates located on the southern side of the school library and the northern entry, where the white picket fence is located. I appreciate the support of you all in this matter. The last thing we want is for a student or family member to be injured on school grounds.
Academically Gifted Class Congratulations goes to Jack Woolley, who has been selected to participate in the Academically Gifted Class for Year Five students in 2019. Commencing next term, Thursday 9th May, Jack will be attending Balarang Public School with a variety of like-minded students from around the region. The class will run every Thursday until Thursday 28th November. I’m sure Jack will be enriched and engaged by the teaching and learning that will take place in the AG Class this year.
Resilience For those families who don’t know the focus for the Principal’s Award this term is rewarding students who demonstrate resilience, which links with our positive behaviour expectation of ‘caring for self’. So far there have been six very resilient students who have been acknowledged for their acts of resilience. Maddison Lukins Luza Marzini Belle Schofield Arlo Baxter Nate Fletcher Holly Tweed
Who will be receiving a Principal’s Award for resilience at tomorrow’s assembly? Be there to find out!!!
Sport Fantastic news came through earlier this week that Romany Janssens has been selected to represent Illawarra at the South Coast soccer trials to be held on Thursday 4th April in Shoalhaven Heads. We wish Romany all the best at the trials and know she will put his best foot forward. Well done, Romany!
Outdoor Classroom The concrete slab is being poured this Saturday and the barbecue is being installed early next week. On Tuesday the new fencing and gate were installed. The project is nearly complete, which is very exciting!

Celebrity Disco Dance Fever What? It is that fun-filled time of the year again with the SRC Disco just around the corner. We hope that each and every JPS student is able to join us for some groovin’, games and grub. After sign in, the teachers will supervise the students, with the disco hall being a parent-free zone. Where does the money go? The SRC disco is our fundraiser that raises money to sponsor David, our Kenyan sponsor child. Our sponsorship, through So They Can, means David can attend school, where he receives two hot meals per day. So They Can is a not for profit organisation committed to empowering children living in poverty through education. Where? Jamberoo Public School Hall Theme? Come dressed as a favourite celebrity (or in your best disco threads). Please note - enclosed shoes must be worn. When? Tuesday 9 April. This year we are trialing two sittings. Our K-2 students (alongside our Year 4, 5 and 6 SRC reps) will disco from 6pm - 7.30pm. Our Year 3 - 6 students will disco from 7 - 8.30pm. Cost? Just $7 per student. This price also includes a sausage sizzle AND an iceblock. All disco money raised goes towards David’s sponsorship. What do I need to do? Please complete the Care Monkey permission form and pay your $7 to the office. Payment and permission is due before Friday 5 April. Then start to seek out your costume and practise your moves! Don’t forget to pack your labelled water bottle for some much needed re-hydration.
ANZAC Day Choir Thursday 25th April Jamberoo PS students have been invited to sing the Australian and New Zealand national anthem at Kiama’s ANZAC Service. If families are available to attend and students would like to sing. Please come and see Mrs Martin.
Rewarding Positive Behaviour
At Jamberoo Public School positive behaviour is expected and rewarded through merit certificates, house points, table points etc. These rewards undermine the principle of students being responsible for their own behaviour. Awards are presented at weekly school assemblies. These awards are issued on the basis of:
• Uniform • Homework • Library • Learning Habits • Principal • Representation in school events • Merit for class work • 5 Merit Certificates = Bronze • 10 Merit Certificates = Silver • 20 Merit Certificates = Gold • 40 Merit Certificates = Diamond

What a great time we had hosting grandparents in the library last Friday! There was a splendid morning tea coordinated by Mrs Dowling and some wonderful parents and grandparents. Teachers enjoyed opening their doors and sharing a mathematics lesson with our special guests and our school captains did an outstanding job running a special assembly. Our visitors dug deep donating money for book donations, which raised over $500, along with the P&C sausage sizzle and water fountain fundraisers. A huge thank you must go out to all the parents who volunteered their time and effort to help everything come together. Throughout the week, students have continued to log and review books for the Premiers Reading Challenge in library lessons. In history, lessons with a strong technology focus have helped students to learn about history topics through inquiry learning and investigation. Our library volunteers have kept up the great work sorting the shelves which I greatly appreciate. As the term wraps up, be on the lookout for stray library books at home. They can be delivered to the library any day and popped on the front desk.
