The History of Jamaica

The history of Jamaica is a rich and vibrant one, which

inspires us to move forward as a nation. Our history speaks

to experiences of hardships and prosperity; and the growth

and determination of a people.

Culture

Jamaican culture describe the Jamaican religion, Jamaican

lifestyle and Jamaican society on a whole. Jamaican culture is

what defines a people. Jamaica has a rich cultural legacy which

has been shaped over the centuries by the island's unique

historical heritage and by the intermingling of peoples

of African, European,Indian, Chinese and Middle

Eastern descent

Music

 Reggae and its derivatives such as dance hall, rock steady are key

for the development of Jamaican culture. This music has its origins

in Jamaica and cannot be claimed by any other nation. The

captivating type of music has led to a growing following. The music

has an upbeat aspect to it’s with constant rhythmic beats.

Food

Jamaican food is famous for its tasty, spicy flavors. These

foods were prepared using various cooking styles known only

known to them was adopted by generations following.

Most if not all, meals were cooked on and old time coal stove

and baked products were produce in a brick oven.

bandana

Bandana is a very popular fabric in Jamaica

especially at festivals and other independence

celebration. The distinguishing , predominantly red,

plaid cotton material is now often used to make

costumes for performers as well as for local beauty

pageants at international competitions.
