Is it May already? Where has the year gone? As our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade
students are preparing to take the CAASPP over the next few weeks, I am
confident that our students will put forth the effort needed to succeed. Our
staff has worked extremely hard all year long to help prepare our students.
Your help is needed in assuring that they can do well if they take their time,
try their best, and persevere even when it gets challenging. Please make
sure your child arrives to school on time with a good night’s rest.
As I look back over this year, I feel that we have accomplished much as a
school community. I have enjoyed working with students, staff and families
to getting to know one another as we continue to strive for the academic
excellence, character development, and outreach to help others less fortu-
nate. Our teachers have been working within their professional learning
communities to practice research-based strategies and best practices to
help prepare our children for the future. Our students experienced a focus
on academic language, collaborative conversations across the curriculum,
while continuing to experience music, art, PE, and computer skills. With the
help of PTC, we were able to offer many field trips and programs that have
led to a memorable year. This month is Staff Appreciation Month. The first
week of May is for our teachers and the second week of May is for our sup-
port staff. I am very proud of their hard work and effort this year. Thanks
for taking some time to show your appreciation.
As we look toward next year, we still have many ways to get involved at
Murrieta Elementary School. Our PTC is always looking for volunteers to
run a program, or be a chairperson for an event. We also have our Watch
D.O.G.S. program for fathers and father figures that would like to help in
the classroom and on the playground. Finally, we can always use your
help and support in the classrooms as parent helpers and volunteers.
Thanks so much for your help and involvement in our children’s education.
Have a fantastic month!
Respectfully,
Rob Lurkins

Spring Break is over and we are on the final home stretch! We want to help your student finish the school year strong, so if you are concerned about your student's attendance, behavior, grades, etc., then the Breakthrough Student Assistance Program is here to help! Our services are available to any student, Pre-K through 12th grade, and his/her family in the Murrieta Valley Unified School District. Our mission is to offer confidential services to support academic and personal achievement. We work with one family at a time because every student matters. Our trained staff members take the time to listen carefully to learn about the student's and fam-ily's strengths and concerns. Our staff members will then work with the family to develop a plan for success. We will provide links to resources at our schools, and in the local community. We believe in early intervention and prevention so if you have a concern for your student, then please do not hesitate to contact us to schedule an appointment. Our clerk can be reached at 951-696-1600 x1219 or at [email protected]. Feel free to browse our website for more information: http://www.murrieta.k12.ca.us/Breakthrough. We hope to hear from you soon!

Pennies for Paws will be held during the week of May 23rd through May 2th. The third
grade classes will begin their community service activity by sponsoring this fundraiser to do-
nate money raised to support the local animal shelter. Classes will be
provided containers to collect pennies from each of the classes here at
Murrieta Elementary. Thank you in advance on behalf of the third grade
classes for your support.
Graduation
The 5th graders will be having their DARE graduation Friday, May 20th. Students come to school at their regular time. The “Graduation” will
take place in our MPR beginning at 9:00. Congratulations to all the students and a huge “THANK YOU” to our DARE Officer, Gabe Aponte
for working with our students each and every Friday.
Mulligan’s Night will be Thursday, May 19th from 3-8pm. This evening is designed for only 5th grade students as a reward for all of their
hard work and effort during the DARE program. Wrist bands will be available that evening at the door or in the front office here at Murrieta
Elementary School.

Murrieta Elementary School Art Fair
You Are Invited!
Fair Date: Tuesday 5/31/2016
(5:00-7:00)
Dear Families of Murrieta Elementary School,
On Tuesday, May 31, 2016 Murrieta Elementary will have the MES Art Fair in the MES Library. If you would like to
have an artwork produced by your child framed and displayed, the frames are for sale $15 (which includes tax).
Frames are limited so you may want to commit to a presale purchase in order to reserve one. Student Artwork that
is Pre-Sold will have priority for framing should their not be enough frames.
We hope you will join us to celebrate the creativity of our students at the Murrieta Elementary School Art Fair.
