Preamble
To support our goal of enabling Shia Ithna-Asheri Muslims to become successful leaders in the community, we are pleased to present the Jaffari Education Board Scholarship Program.
The primary purpose of this program is to provide financial assistance for students who demonstrate a genuine financial need and are entering Canadian post-secondary accredited education institutions. A secondary goal is to encourage involvement in the Muslim community. This program honours applicants who require financial support for their academic studies, have demonstrated community involvement, high academic standing, good Akhlaq, and positive behaviour.
Applications are considered by the Scholarship Selection Committee based on criterion outlined in this document, and completion of the application form with supplementary documents.
Award winners will be notified by August 15, 2017. Insha’Allah.
Selection Criteria
Candidates must meet the following criteria in order to apply: • Member of the Shia Ithna-Asheri faith• Genuine financial need• Good academic standing• Demonstrated community involvement• Participation in extra-curricular activities• Admission to a Canadian Accredited Education Institution
The Fund
Up to $2000 will be given to successful applicants. Applicants may re-apply for the scholarship program.
Application Procedure
Applicants are required to obtain and complete in full, all necessary application forms in the document below. All completed applications must be submitted in the form of one original and one photocopy. Applicants will be interviewed by the Scholarship Selection Committee about their financial situation, academic performance, and extra-curricular achievements. Applications will be de-identified, and the Scholarship Selection Committee will score each one based on the application form, supplementary documents submitted, and performance in the interview.

1. Copy of government issued ID or student visa2. High School (grade 12) or College/University transcripts as applicable, and any
other standardized test scores (SAT, ACT, GRE, TOEFL)3. Letter of admission to a Canadian Accredited Institution with full details of the
proposed course including the fees / other related costs4. Two References (academic or professional) for which the Scholarship Committee
may contact if deemed necessary5. Certificates of achievement in extra-curricular activities
All applications along with supporting documents must be submitted via mail to the Jamaat Office at 9000 Bathurst Street, Vaughan, Ontario, L4J 8A7, with the title of ‘JEB Scholarship Application’, or submitted via email to [email protected]. All enquiries for additional information should be directed to [email protected]. Any lobbying by or on behalf of the applicants may disqualify the applicant.
Deadline The deadline to submit completed applications along with all requested supporting documents is, June 30, 2017.

a) The student may be asked to send the Scholarship Selection Committee an account of their scholastic results at the end of the academic year the scholarship is awarded. Students attending institutions which do not publish official transcripts are requested to obtain a written appreciation of their academic progress from an authority of the institution. JEB reserves the right to withhold or withdraw the grant amount approved, if the Scholarship Selection Committee considers the academic results of a recipient to be unsatisfactory. In the event that the recipient fails to report as required, the Scholarship Selection Committee reserves the right to request the required information directly from University authorities.
b) The recipient must commit to volunteering a minimum of fifty hours for a Muslim Organization, within one year of receiving their scholarship. Recipients will be required to submit a confirmation of service document to the Scholarship Selection Committee, as proof of completion.
c) The student’s parents or guardian must be prepared to disclose financial statements, detailing income and expenditure, including a T4 slip. If the student is married, the student’s spouse must be prepared to disclose such information. If the student is working, they must also disclose such information.
d) The Recipient must agree to have a criminal check done to avoid fraudulent claims.e) JEB requires the recipient to communicate to the Scholarship Selection Committee
an account of all other grants, stipends or other income not declared on the original application form, which they may receive before the scholarship is given.
f) JEB reserves the right to withhold or withdraw any amount given if the Scholarship Selection Committee receives formal notification from the institution involved that the conduct of the Recipient does not conform to acceptable norms.
g) On approval of the scholarship, the scholarship amount will be remitted by JEB to the financial institution specified by the recipient.
All rights reserved herein by JEB and the Scholarship Selection Committee shall be exercised in their discretion.
