Weld-on Valve JacketingFlextrol's Weld-on Valve Jackets are produced in full coverage orpartial coverage designs. The weld-on design places the heatingmedia in direct contact with the valve body, thereby ensuringexcellent and reliable heat transfer to the valve body. The valvebonnet may also be jacketed.

Our standard rating is 150 psig at 365 °F. Other pressure andtemperature ratings are available. The jacket can be fabricatedof carbon steel, stainless steel, or other alloys. All finishedjacketed valves are pressure tested on both the heating side andthe process side before shipment. Flextrol specializes incalibrating control valve positioners, both pneumatic and electro-pneumatic, prior to shipment.

Normally, we provide 1/2" female NPTports on 1" through 2 1/2" valves, 3/4"ports on 3" through 6" valves, and 1"ports on 8" and larger valves.

Full Coverage withOversized Flanges

This design allows heating media tocontact both the valve body and thatportion of the flange within the boltcircle. Standards for this designrequire that the flanges be oversizedby one full size over the valve size. The finished face-to-face dimensionwill conform to ANSI standards for theoversized flange.

The cover and the adjacentphotograph show typical jacketedvalves with full coverage, oversizedflanges. The drawing shows a crosssection of a typical jacketed ball valvedesign.

Full Coverage with Standard Flanges

Standard flanged valves can be fully jacketed. This compactdesign is accomplished by installing blind, tapped inserts in theflange bolt holes, with the jacket welded to the periphery of theflange. Flextrol's unique design will allow the heating media tocome into contact with the valve body and flanges.

The photograph shows a full coverage, standard flange ballvalve. The drawing shows a typical ball valve design.

Partial Coverage with Standard Flanges

When standard flanges are required and full coverage is notnecessary, partial coverage is appropriate. The reliability andexcellent heat transfer characteristics of the weld-on jacket areretained, but flange heating is indirect.

In the partial coverage design, only the mid-section of the valvebody is enclosed in the jacket, thereby leaving clearance forflange bolt-up.

Flextrol Partial Jackets can be added to ball valves, globevalves, plug valves, gate valves, butterfly valves, check valves, sampling valves and otherprocess equipment.

The photograph illustrates apartial coverage, standard flangegate valve. The drawing is thesame jacket concept appliedto a ball valve.

Bolt-on Valve Jacketing

Flextrol Bolt-on Jackets can be provided for most process pipingcomponents including all types of pipe fittings, valves, pumps, andstrainers. Our jackets are custom fabricated to correctly fit thecomponent being jacketed. Carbon steel is our standard jacketmaterial, but stainless steel and other alloys are available. Ourfabricated Bolt-on Jacket has a large heating chamber whichprovides efficient temperature control over the total surface of thecomponent's body and flanges. Heat transfer compound is appliedbetween the component and the jacket to ensure good heattransfer.

This is accomplished without the expense of premiummaterials, and without concern for controlling welding stresseswithin the structure of the component being jacketed. Inaddition, there is no risk of cross contamination with the bolt-ondesign.

Maintenance, repair, or modification is particularly easy sincethe jacket can be removed without entering the process itself. Also, replacement jackets can be fabricated at Flextrol withoutremoving and returning the installed piping component.

Bolt-on Valve Jacketing

Flextrol's standard design is rated at150 psig, 650°F. Standard jackets arecarbon steel construction with femaleNPT ports. Other ratings and portconfigurations are available. Ourexperienced personnel design, manufacture, and test the fabricatedjacket.

Bolt-on jacketing is available for globe, gate, ball, check, and relief valves. It issuitable for either manual or actuatedvalves. Flextrol can also apply the bolt-on design concept to pumps and otherprocess equipment.

Pictured to the right is a bolt-on jacketapplied to a gate valve.

Jacketed Pipe

Flextrol's standard jacketed pipeconsists of a full length jacket that iswelded to the back of oversizedflanges. The core (product) pipe iswelded to the bore of the flanges. Thisdesign, shown in the pipe photograph(right) and in the upper drawing, provides ideal temperature uniformity.

Partial coverage jacketed pipe madewith flanges that match the productline size is also available. A partialjacket is welded to the core pipe nearthe back of the flange (see lowerdrawing and left side of photograph).Jacketed pipe can also be producedusing lap joint, weld-neck, and inserttype flanges.

Jacket ports are normally 3000 psigfemale NPT half couplings arranged180° apart: 1/2" ports for up to 2 1/2"pipe, 3/4" ports for 3" through 6" pipe, and 1" ports for larger pipe sizes.Consult with Flextrol for specificdimensions.

Custom pipe can be providedcombining elbows, tees, etc. per thecustomer's drawing.

Jacketed Pipe Fittings

Flextrol's jacketed elbows, tees, crossesand reducers are fabricated from thehighest quality materials in variouscombinations of carbon and stainless steelor other alloys. While 150 and 300 psigflanges are standard, other designs andpressure ratings are available.

The weld-on design, utilizing oversizedflanges is Flextrol's standard for jacketedpipe fittings. The drawing and photographshow a standard weld-on jacket for a tee.

The advantages and features of Flextrol'sjacketed pipe also apply to jacketed pipefittings.

We also provide bolt-on jackets for pipefittings. Contact us for dimensions and/ordrawings.

Jacketed Hose

Jacketed hose consists of flexiblemetal hose for both the core andouter jacket. This allows flexibility forthe following applications:

 Heated processes.

Rail car and tank truck loading/unloading.

 Flexible connections to vibratingequipment.

 To relieve pump housing stresses.

Hazardous material piping systemusing an alarmed vacuum jacket.

 Vacuum jacketed hoses for heatinsulation.

Standard core constructions areavailable in ID sizes from 1/4" to 24"in T-321 and T-316L stainless steelwith outer jackets available up to 30"ID.

Standard jacketing ports are 3000 lb.female NPT pipe couplings arranged180° apart. Other port configurations, pressure ratings, end fittings andmaterials are available.

Jumper Hoses

Flextrol also provides jumper hosesto interconnect the numerous jacketstin a jacketed piping system. Thesehoses are available in standarddiameters of 1/2", 3/4" and 1" maleNPT pipe. Jumper hoses are madefrom stainless steel flexible hose, andcan be insulated with fiberglass/silicone covers. Standard lengthsinclude 24", 28" and 30 " with otherlengths available.
