Friday 23 November Follow us @teddingtonschl @teddschPTA Jack Petchey Awards Congratulations to Harry Greenwood 9SE, Tilly Harradine 10JT and Chloe Costard 11NS who have each received a Jack Petchey Award at Teddington School. These young people have shown resilience and a positive attitude in overcoming personal challenges to become worthy winners of this award. Teddington School is proud to be involved with the Jack Petchey award scheme. Since being launched in 1999 the scheme has given over £110 million to 11-25 year olds in London and Essex. Our link with the scheme means that 9 students can receive the award during each academic year. These are young people who have been nominated by a member of the school community for showing the qualities promoted via the ethos of the Jack Petchey award scheme. When students receive the award they are given a certificate, badge and booklet during assembly. They choose which area of school will receive a £250 grant to spend on equipment, trips or events that enhance the future learning experiences of their fellow students. The recipients also attend an awards evening at the Rose Theatre to celebrate the success of young people across the boroughs of Kingston and Richmond. As a school we are proud of the diverse talents and qualities of the many quiet, unsung heroes in our school community. This award gives us an opportunity to acknowledge their achievements and celebrate the positive qualities they display. School Awards

The following students have been nominated this week by their subject teachers for the Headteacher’s Award and will be entered into the ballot for the next award: Year 7: Maddy Redington 7DR, Shorya Vats 7NK, Tess Bennett Jones 7GS and Laila Kenyon 7HP; Year 10: Maddie Lamb 10 PU. Congratulations to Sam Bates 8LJ for receiving the largest number of reward points last week. This week has been revision week for Year 11 and Year 13 students prior to the mock exam which commence on Monday 26 November for 2 weeks. The languages department have already commenced the listening examinations. I want to wish the year 11 and year 13 students the very best of luck during their mock exams. This is very important to us as teachers as we can identify which students need support. Over the last fortnight a group of volunteer parents have been working with our former librarian, Rachel Bide, to renovate the library and to review the resources. I want to thank them very much for their time and energy. We are now looking to recruit and train additional parent volunteers for the library. Please email [email protected] if you are interested. Please mark your email for the attention of Juliet Hartridge, Chair of Governors. Ms Pacey

This Week in School

Five students competed at the Warhammer Schools League last weekend – a first for Teddington School. The qualifying heats of the national competition took place at the Kingston Games Workshop, where Charlie West (9HS), Jamie Murray (9HS), Niall Bushnell (9), Ben Brown (7A) and Jake Brown (7B) from the Warhammer Club sent their armies of necron warriors and space wolves into battle in the two hour competition. If successful, the team will go onto the semi-finals in March at Warhammer World in Nottingham. Warhammer is a strategy game that has been around for about 40 years. Players collect forces of miniature plastic models with different stats and abilities and use them to play out clashes on a tabletop battlefield. The models can be painted whatever colours they choose. Warhammer rewards good sportsmanship, strategy and hobby skills in equal measure. Our club takes place in Room 103 on Fridays at 3:30 pm – do join us! There are so many aspects to the game that you can even do a Warhammer Duke of Edinburgh Award!

Students across the school have received their BEBRAS challenge results. Well done to everyone who participated, especially the following student who achieved the highest score in their year groups.

On Friday 16 November once school was closed for the week, Year 7 parents and students returned to take part in the Parents v Kids quiz organised by the PTA. They had a really successful and fun evening hosted by Nigel Owen. This event is really about helping our new cohort of parents to get to know each other better, and allowing the children to have fun too. We hope to do more of these socials to encourage a positive community feel for Year 7 parents and their children.
