SOCIAL INTERACTION IN 2025LESS TALK

Right now, over 50% of people talk to people more online than in person – by 2025, this is expected to have increased to about 85%.

With fewer and fewer interacting in person, we can expect to see some experimenting with hologram technology and more online video communication.

SOCIAL INTERACTION IN 2025SOCIAL MEDIA BECOMES THE NORM

Facebook, Google+, Twitter and Instagram have shown no signs of decline.

Assuming growth continues in line with trends, monthly active users would be 2183mn, 915mn, 362mn and 869mn respectively in 10years time (see previous slide).

It is expected that by 2025, everyone on earth would have access to the internet. Anyone with access via a smartphone, tablet or computer (currently 40% of the world’s population) will have an account on either/all of these social media platforms.

SOCIAL INTERACTION IN 2025THE WORLD IN YOUR HANDS

Using “hashtags” and “likes”, technology has become a way to bring people from all over the world into yours.

By 2025, the world would be even ‘closer’ than it already is. Innovations in technology will continue to create new ways for people to connect.

SOCIAL INTERACTION IN 2025IMAGE CENTRIC COMMUNICATION

With fewer people reading, there would be a movement towards real time video sharing such as Vine and Instagram.

Innovation is therefore key for text based platforms such as Facebook and Twitter to keep up with video and image based social networks.

Commercial content will have to be either very entertaining or highly educational to keep the audience interested.

SOCIAL INTERACTION IN 2025POWER TO THE PEOPLE

Social media will be used to meet practically every need including governance and politics.

The power of social media currently lies in the hands of the mass of its users – the people. Top government officials round the world now attempt to connect with the population through social media.

Government surveillance – Governments worldwide seek more online power and will strive to maintain security and political control, which will lead to more blocking and filtering of Internet content. Regulations promoting openness however may be introduced to counter this as such control would trump innovation.

SOCIAL INTERACTION IN 2025THE FUTURE OF BUSINESS

Social media has quickly become a pillar in business collaborations, business-consumer interactions and brand marketing. In 2025, we will see new developments such as senior citizens being able to work from home using social media.

There will also be a higher level of corporate surveillance, as employers already monitor employees via social media activity. Online consumer activity will continue to be exploited for profit.

SOCIAL INTERACTION IN 2025SOCIAL PRIVACY AND SECURITY

Did u know that data viewed on your Facebook page is tailored specifically to you, based on your “likes”? Enjoy the little bit of privacy you have left because by 2025, it may not exist.

People sometimes download malicious software along with apps on their mobile devices. Some of these malicious software are designed destroy user data, reveal private information or even impersonate users.

Social media giants Facebook, Google, Pinterest, LinkedIn and Tumblr have all been victims of hacking. By 2025, we can expect to see a higher percentage of online crime.

SOCIAL INTERACTION IN 2025GOODBYE TO CHILDHOOD AS WE KNOW IT

From as little as age 2, children become tech-savvy and 60% of parents do not supervise their child’s technology usage. There is debate as to whether such exposure is positive or not.

Whatever the case, we can expect to meet children that don’t know what a ‘playground’ or ‘colouring book’ is by 2025.

TECHNOLOGY & SOCIAL INTERACTION

Social media has evolved to become a “need”

74% of 16-24 year olds claim that they need their mobile devices and cannot function without them. By 2025, this will be the normal way to socialise.

What was once considered a trend or luxury has become an addiction.

Admit it or not, investment in social media and technology has become a necessity. It is fast becoming a pillar in research, business marketing and social experiments – about 90% of the world’s data was created within the last 2 years all thanks to social media.

TECHNOLOGY & SOCIAL INTERACTIONGOOD OR BAD?

With constant innovations from the tech giants such as Google, Apple and Microsoft, we can expect to see social interaction platforms move along with technological changes.

At this point in time, we cant tell if this change is positive or not, but social media has taken over conventional social interaction and is changing the world.
