J B Parkers - Guernsey Design Awards

1
J B Parkers | Situated in the heart of St Peter Port lies one of Guernsey’s oldest establishments. The Library Bar at Moores Hotel had been popular with locals and visitors alike for years. Redesigning one of Guernsey’s most famous eateries was always going to be an exciting project which required a high level of finish within a very tight time frame. PF+A brought together an amazing team of people who all pulled together to hit the deadline. Whilst the main bar underwent a major refurbishment, the client took the opportunity to develop a wine bar in their existing basement which was being used as a beer store. The cellar was a protected structure and the design was developed in close consultation with the States of Guernsey Planning and Conservation Department. We retained the exposed brick and hydraulic lime finish of the vaulted cellar to create an atmospheric interior which harks back to the former medieval life of St Peter Port. The project represents a great example of breathing life back into an under-utilised building creating vitality and activity in the town area. Our client was keen to explore the use of renewable technology to make the hotel a more environmentally responsible operation which resulted in the installation of 53 solar PV panels on the south facing roof. The system is designed to produce 18,179 KWh per annum, significantly reducing the energy consumption of the hotel by 15% and offsetting 6,961 Kg/ CO2 of carbon per annum the equivalent of charging one million smart phones.
